A nice courtyard hotel within a Hutong
Room was decent and it was nice and quiet. Friendly staff. Some people might not like sleeping on a firm mattress, but I was ok with that. Wifi was weak and unstable. Overall, a good place to stay at.

Location is perfect, close to subway station (North of the hotel is 南锣鼓巷 station, lines 6 and 8) and the Forbidden City (in the South). Less than 20 mins walk in the North takes you to Houhai lake, an area which is full of night-life. Between the Houhai lake and the mentioned subway station there are a lot of restaurants and shops. Staff is kind and helpful. The room was cleaned up everyday and breakfast was good.

My stay was okay!
Pros: Andy, the front desk agent spoke English very well and went above and beyond to help with tours and transportation. Cons: You have to enter the hotel through a dirty alley. Also, the beds are very firm.

Great hotel in a great location
It was a great hotel located just behind the Forbidden City -- rooms are clean, beds are firm but that is standard in China. Helpful staff, great location, beautiful courtyard.

Good Hutong Hotel Experience
Good hotel overall for those wanting the hutong experience. A little hard to find, but they have installed signs to help direct within the hutong. The wifi is completely useless and shouldn't even be advertised. Some rooms have a cool view from the bathroom of the Jingshan park pagoda. Breakfast is decent with good coffee. All in all it's a local favorite of ours and we keep coming back.

Jingshan Garden
This was our second stay at the Jingshan garden. The first time was in June, during the summer. This time was during winter. Although we stayed here for the same reasons as we did for summer, site seeing etc. this hotel is better suited for the summer traveler. The outside courtyard is not covered and was very cold sitting outside.

Cold. Space heater helped some, but overall uncomfortable stay. Not much activity in this hutong, which made walking around feel unsafe. Hard to find a cab at airport willing to transport us. Five told us it was too far. When we asked an official who was directing people in the taxi cue to help us, he found us a cab driver for 250 rmbs (cost 100 rmbs upon return). Positive-near jinghen park which offered great views of forbidden city at sunset.

The Hutong Experience
It was close to the sites and close to shopping. I loved staying in the hutong area. I felt like it was the real Chinese experience.

Great location in Beijing Hutongs - Affordable
The hotel is great for adventurers who are looking to immerse themselves in the Beijing Hutongs (residential houses). One piece of advice is to find the address of the Hutong street instead of the Hotel just in case the taxi drivers do not know where it's located. The taxi will drop you off at the entrance of the Hutong and not in front of the hotel. There is a bit of walking involved. The neighbourhood may look intimidating at first, but the locals are super friendly. Expect low heating in the breakfast hall during winter. There is an electric heater in your room with the bare minimum. Hotel staff is very friendly, with limited English proficiency (a luxury for local hotels). Hotel rooms face the traditional courthouse and staff is always ready to help. Great location near Forbidden Palace and in the heart of downtown. Staff was able to let us in after midnight.

Loved This Hotel
This hotel took you back to old China in a great way. Although it was in a busy area, the hotel was so quiet and peaceful. The staff was wonderful and helpful. And the breakfast was a wonderful representation of traditional Chinese food. We would go back again.

Comfortable hotel in traditional Chinese "hutong"
The Jingshan Courtyard hotel is a breath of fresh air. Several of the hotels we stayed at during our China trip were modern international hotels. But we wanted our first hotel to give us more of the “China” experience. The Jingshan Courtyard Hotel did that. It is located down a narrow alley in a “hutong” : traditional Chinese neighborhood with streets not designed for cars. You can’t take a taxi to the hotel’s door, although it was an easy, well-marked, two minute walk from the nearby main street, Jingshan Park Street. After stepping though the simple lobby of the hotel, you are presented with a breathtakingly beautiful courtyard. The rooms are well-appointed, and the bathroom was spacious with a very comfortable modern shower. Note: For those who have trouble with stairs, there is no elevator, and the breakfast room is on the second floor. Our room came with breakfast included. The breakfast area is a beautiful wooden room with a delicious buffet. An omelet and a cup of fresh brewed espresso is included. The location is ideal, across the street from famous Jingshan Park, which overlooks the Forbidden City. The hotel is walking distance from the North Gate of the Forbidden City. It is also a short ride on the 111 electric trolley bus to the tourist shopping district. I will caution that the Chinese like their beds extra firm, and these beds were the firmest of the several hotels we stayed in. (By our last night, I felt I would get bruises if I slept another night

A great place to stay at.
Great location, just a minute from Jingshan park overlooking the city and walking distance to Forbidden city and subway line 8. The hotel is hid away in a old Beijing style hutong and is beautiful. The beds are amazing and bathroom is great. Good AC, heater so we never froze even though it was freezing outside. Breakfast was great, however the room you eat in gets cold (wear a jacket).

We got a free upgrade to room on the 2nd floor, the room was spacious. Despite the location was a bit far from subway, we still recommend it because it's of good value and the service was good.

Great hotel. Highly reccommended!
We loved our stay at Jingshan Garden Hotel! The bedroom and bathroom were beautiful and all the staff were friendly and accommodating. The hotel is located just off Jingshan park and about a 10-15 minute walk to the nearest subway station, walking along the main roads is easier to navigate as it's easy to get lost in the hutong and can be quite eerie at night!

It was a very unique stay...liked everything some small issues were resolved quickly Staff is very attentive when needed. Rooms were very comfortable overall It is hard to find...even for taxi driver. Have hotel # handy just in case and get someone to write you CHINESE directions before you get into taxi..drivers do not speak any English.

Comfy hotel, clean and spacious
We arrived at 3a.m. plus in the morning. The staff handled our check in speedily. We were shown to rooms which were spacious, clean and comfy. Ours came with breakfast in the morning. If you don't mind walking, you can take slow walks to the Palace Museum and several parks. There are shops nearby selling noodles and rice. A good and satisfying stay.

Comfortable stay
We spent five nights at Jingshan Garden Hotel and we were pleased with our booking with them. Their staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfy. My kids liked the shower (with big heating lights) good for showering without shivering on cold winter nights. Breakfast was good. All in all a good stay.

pleasant
It was nice and the staff was nice but unfortunately they weren't very good at English. Lucky my partner could speak Chinese. The taxis also struggle to find the place and it looks like it is located in a slum. The area however is safe even though it looks like a ghetto. It is close to the station but be careful when taking the short was as you could easily get lost.

Convenient location close to CBD and on bus routes
Quiet location (except not sound proof from activity/voices in courtyard) near major attractions and on good bus route . Helpful staff, authentic feel to Hutong location, community atmosphere in streets, felt a safe location. Breakfast facility pretty average.

Depends on what you are after
Firstly, I would say there is nothing wrong with this hotel. It provides a certain charm and the courtyard area is nice. The location is very central and provides a good hub to the Forbidden city and other central attractions. The breakfast was disappointing. It was not consistent and some days there was virtually nothing there, and fruit was provided on only 1 of the 5 days we stayed. The rooms were fine and the bathrooms really the centre piece of the room. However, in all three rooms we had, the extractor fans had to be left on because of the smell of the drains were noticable if you didn't (indeed, the maids left them on all day). I would say that this is a great place to stay for 1 or 2 nights for novelty value, however, if you are looking for comfort and easy access to the metro then elsewhere may be preferable

Acceptable but could be better
This hotel is decent enough. The rooms are large but tired and in need of a fresh coat of paint. Linens were fresh and clean. Decent breakfast with lots of variety. Desk staff are friendly but speak very little English therefore are only useful for the most basic of assistance - e.g. calling a taxi or requesting more towels etc. No siteseeing guidance or other practical or pleasant touches available. Smell of sewage creeping up from the floor drain in the bathroom of our first room. Staff happily moved us to another a room but still. Location is not bad. Close to Jingshan Park and Forbidden City but 20 minutes walk to nearest subway station. There are better hotels inside the second ring road for around the same price.

Hutong life
Quiet hutong, near many buses which make it quite convenient. Not enough English spoken, but most of the staff were anxious to help....even walking us all the way out to main streets to help with directions....very much appreciated. Food ok, cleanliness ok. Would stay again.

Nice hotel, surrounding area- acquired taste
In general the stay was pleasant yet the surrounding area required a lot of getting use to. It is situated within a local community, with clothing hanging out to dry. Taxi could not arrive at the front door, for the last 100 yards, we have to carry the bags and walked through narrow passageway in order to enter the hotel. The staffs were very friendly and the facilities were reasonable.

Great location and beautiful venue
The Jingshan Garden Hotel was absolutely lovely. The room was wonderfully clean and right by the beautiful courtyard. The location is great in the middle of a Hutong near the Park and walking distance to many locations. I highly recommend staying here and would do so again!

Hu tong gem
Our hotel was in the heart of Beijing. I learned from a friend that. Jingshan Park is the first place they go to when they arrive in Beijing because it has the best view of the city. Our hotel was a quiet oasis in the busy city of Beijing. We had a comfortable king bed with a great bathroom. The breakfast was mostly Asian with some typical English style breakfast items. The only down side was that there was no close subway station. As a result, we chose to take cabs which weren't expensive.

Good serivce, hard to find
This hotel has some charm and character and the staff were very helpful. However, it is a little tricky to find - particularly as the name on signs is actually The Red Wall Garden Hotel rather than the Jingshan Garden Hotel as it is sometimes advertised!

A little Chinese sanctuary in a huge city
We loved it. The hotel is like a small Chinese B&B with modern western conveniences. The room was clean and comfortable, bathroom well equipped, air-condition was great and needed in Aug in Beijing. The courtyard is charming, overgrown with plants and little fishponds. The complimentary breakfast, both Chinese and western, was plentiful and delicious. The front desk staff spoke decent English and was very helpful. We walked through the surrounding Chinese neighborhood , fascinating! Definitely would stay there again.

Old World Charm
This hotel is located in the heart of a hutong on a street so narrow it is closed to cars. To enter the hotel is like going back into an olden, more quiet era. Our family room for three was very comfortable. The bathroom was superb. The breakfast buffet was excellent. The only drawback is that one must take a taxi to get to the hotel, as it is not near a subway line. If you are looking for a somewhat different experience, this hotel is great. We would definitely stay there again.

Disappointed
Rooms and grounds were clean and well kept. Jingshan park is across the street and the Forbidden City is a 5 minute walk, but this hotel is not ready for foreign visitors and there are no good restaurants nearby. The hotel only serves breakfast and getting a cab as a foreigner is nearly impossible. We quickly learned how to use the bus system which worked out fine in the end. The staff are very young and don't speak English well. They had no clue as to how to find food, get to the airport or anywhere else for that matter. The only thing they could tell us was to wait on the street for a taxi - in the rain with our luggage. The bedroom and bath were clean but the drain pipes send sewage gases directly into the room. We had to keep the bathroom door shut to keep the sewer smell out, but had to tolerate it while showering, etc. If you are a backpacker or enjoy cultural immersion, this is the hotel for you - but a bit expensive for what it is. If you enjoy convenience and service then I recommend the Shangri-La or Hilton. Better yet, go to Cambodia or Thailand instead.

hotel is right next to the Jingshan Park, discreet and quite with only 20 rooms in the small courtyard, the room is a bit cold during the winter time and the hot water system always ran out after one person had shower, however, worth visiting for westerners at a reasonable price, staffs are friendly
