“GO to this hotel if a tourist in Beijing.”

Great location near Forbidden City, subway, T. Square, heart of city. Helpful staff. Speak English .Nice place, although might prefer different flooring in room other than carpet. Bathtub could be better. But staff attententive immediately. Lobby, downstairs nice, but could use a sitting area.Good value. Breakfast huge, but costs $10; still good for at least one time during stay.Overall, GO to this hotel if a tourist in Beijing. You will be satisfied.

Area recommendations
T. Square, Great Wall, Forbidden City, Silk market, Embassy area wonderful... nice restaurants there. Also, Food street. Bar street by lake VERY,VERY nice but watch for overpriced drinks etc. Lots of OMG's in this city/ maybe take a ride on Bullet train to city 90 miles (30 minutes) south...15Million city we never heard of..
Getting there
Take airport train to heart of city, probably cab to hotel as won't know subway first day. Second day and you're a pro.
Getting around
Use the subway. It's easy as long as you can read. NO PROBLEM and ony 30 cents a ride. Enjoy the organized chaos. Subways are amazingly clean, well-kept unlike U.S.
What to pack
Gloves and a hat if going to Great Wall as is windy and colder in Nov. by cable car up and slide down.
Must see
EVERYTHING. Get on subway and go in every direction. Have to see pandas but zoo a prison for animals.Take a cab to Great Wall with English speaking driver and then ask questions the entire way. We went for about $80 dor 4 people by cab. Worth the money for convenience and the information.
Shopping
Bring as little as possible, buy everything, EVERYTHING in the markets . People dress nice in Beijing because it's so cheap.
Dining
Eat on first level of Silk Market after shopping at place where you choose your own ingredients for stir fry. You'll see it. Try Arabian Nights restaurant by embassies. Good change of pace, good value, belly dance show (free), seems like embassy workers eat there.Night market is obviously disgusting for westerners so walk by for shock value only. You're not going to eat there unless you are a host on a weird foods episode on the Travel network..
Nightlife
Go to both bar streets . Just be sure to read pricelists before ordering anything. I think you should drink after eating on Food street... good deals. Can always buy as beer from any store for 50 cents and drink while walking. Bars by lake have tremendous bands.

“Comfort near Forbidden City”

Clean, comfortable room with AC. Great walking neighborhood near Forbidden City and Wafujing market. Walking distance to Tianamen Square and subway but not as close as it looks on map. Fantastic breakfast and good value for long day of sightseeing. Breakfast includes western and Chinese dishes. I would definitely stay here again.

“Lovely Experience”

Spent 3 nights there in the Superior Executive Room and it was amazing. The room was very spacious and very clean. The computer in the room was very handy for checking emails and searching information on places to do around Beijing. As i was between two trekking trips i got some laundry done at the hotel and there laundry service was very professional. Breakfast buffet had a very good and the restaurant provided a very good meal. Its very close to the Forbidden City and train stations.

“Great Location, Wonderful staff, Clean and quiet room.”

I stayed in Jade garden for 5 nights in October 2011. Hotel is centrally located. The staff and specially bell boys are very friendly. They speak sufficient English and are very helpful in arranging cabs for you to go to different destinations. I strongly recommend this hotel and will definitely return to it myself. One warning about hotels and almost all other buildings in Beijing (and other towns in China): They often have steps to enter the buildings without any rail on the sides. So, if you have physical problem climbing the steps make sure to carry a cane. That is what I did. The bell boys at Jade Garden Hotel were very sweet and would always run to help me.

Area recommendations
Jade Garden Hotel neighborhood. It is in walking distance to to Forbidden City, Tia AN Men Square, and WangFujing shopping street. It is also a relatively short cab ride to Pearl Market and Silk Market. Cab fares are very cheap in Beijing and save a lot of time. Distances are overall very long and impossible to walk.

“Great location for Beijing tourist”

We enjoyed the Jade for our 3 night stay. The location was very good for a tourist and the rate was nice also. The staff speaks enough English to get you info you need but not much past that. (maybe 50% staff speaks some English) The wifi is pretty slow but internet speeds in China are not fast anywhere. We loved the breakfast each morning, good selection of western and Asian options! My only gripe was the climate control in the room, no matter what temp you selected it always shows 26-27C. We were there in Oct so AC wasn't very important but we could have used a few degrees cooler. If i go to Beijing again I would stay here again.

“Great Hotel Next to the Forbidden City”

This hotel is an economical choice in a prime location. Plusses: Modest price but very good quality Two blocks from the East Gate of the Forbidden City. About 1 km to the main entrance, to Tiananmen Square, and to the subway (E Tiananmen station on line 1). Less than 1 km to Wanfujing Street shopping. Numerous mid-level restaurants within a block, or walk 3 blocks to Wanfujing Night Market for street vendors galore. Hotel provides a very helpful map of Beijing with English on one side, Chinese on the other. Find where you want to go in English, flip the map over and point to the Chinese name when you hop in a taxi. Friendly staff. Hotel accepts Visa & MC. The CIT Beijing office is about a km away down the street the hotel fronts, and CIT can handle all your train, plane and tour desires. Minuses: Staff English skills are limited, but someone can usually be found to answer most questions. Person who can purchase train tickets for you has no English, but desk staff helped out and we successfully purchased tickets for 3 legs of our journey. It helps to have the Chinese character names for the origin and destination cities, which some train-schedule-finder websites provide.

Area recommendations
After seeing the must-sees, be sure to check out Prince Gong's House and the hutong neighborhood around it, particularly to the east around Hou Hai. The house is well worth the admission - it was the largest princely estate in Beijing during the Qing Dynasty - and the hutongs nearby are fascinating. Guys offering bicycle rickshaw tours hang out by the entrance to Prince Gong's. The Hou Hai lakeshore is a pleasant place to stroll with still more hutongs to explore and charming restaurants to detain you. There are also some yuppified hutongs just south of the Jade Garden that you can easily walk down on your way to Tiananmen, the Forbidden City or the subway.
Getting around
As in most Chinese cities, taxis abound and are reasonably priced so long as you go on the meter. Do NOT agree to a fixed price somewhere, say no and get a different cab. The REAL travel bargain is the subway only 2¥ to anywhere other than the airport. The ticket selling machines will even sell you your tickets with English language instructions. The trains are crowded but frequent and fast. We took the subway from Tiananmen East to the Summer Palace, it took about 45 minutes and we got seats for about 20 of those minutes. It was then a 10- minute walk, though bicycle rickshaws have practically worn a rut in the route between the subway and the entrance and are one way to save your energy for the vast Summer Palace. We left at rush hour and even though we were going into the city, it was SROon the subway the whole way. Still, to go that far for 35 U.S. cents is a deal worth standing for (and it was a chance to do people-watching).

“Nice hotel in Beijing”

Nice facility within walking distance of the Forbidden City. Price was excellent. Staff was attentive. Room and entire facility were clean. AC didn't seem cool enough, even though maintenance staff came to the room twice - we kept the room anyway. The restaurant menu seemed a little high, but we didn't eat there. Certainly would consider this hotel if we ever visit Beijing again.
