Amazing staff. Location perfect, except taxi's can't find it. Expensive for this area. The building's history really adds to the uniqueness of the property.

Unique Stay At Historic Hotel
This was a truly unique visit in an historic building tucked in the city that has grown around it. It is like staying in the Forbidden City. I was told the original sight was over 300 years old, but I didn't get a clear answer on which part of the building, if any, were actually original. Multiple wonderful courtyards to explore and artifacts throughout the hotel. They put on formal Chinese dinners complete with traditional live music. It's a 10-15 minute walk to the Metro station which goes through pedestrian only street with nice shops, bars, and restaurants. It is a little pricey for the actual room, but if you crave something unique, it's worth the extra $$.

Great neighbourhood deep in the Hutongs
Nice hotel with charming traditional Beijing courtyard. Hardware in the rooms are a bit worn and lacking attention to details. Service is good in general but somehow our request for a taxi to the airport, delivered 3 times, over a period of 3 days, never reached the concierge and we almost missed our onward train journey. The Hutongs in the neighbourhood are the best aspect of choosing this hotel. They are full of independent restaurants and shops and are exceedingly charming. But this also renders the hotel a bit difficult to find for taxi drivers. It's recommended to have your map loaded in advance to help the taxi drivers find the hotel.

Days of Glory Past
Beautiful exterior, worn out interior, friendly staff. Hotel has seen better days. In great need of an infusion of cash to bring it back to 4 or 5 star status. Carpets worn and dirty, little or no hot water. Never figured out breakfast, sometimes they had a minimal, and I mean minimal breakfast, more often than not, nothing. Staff was great though.

Great, non-corporate hotel
The hotel staff was fantastic. Gave us a detailed map of the city, oriented us to the major tourist sites in Beijing, helped us with taxi rides, checked our departing flight for us and ordered food for us after hours. The hotel was actually a building for Qing Dynasty officials and retains the ambience of older Chinese architecture. That alone makes it worth the stay if you can tolerate being away from another anonymous corporate hotel.

Great location - hard to find, worth the effort.
If you are looking for a hotel in Beijing that is not the usual bland multi-national chain , then this is the place for you. An oasis of calm in the middle of the city and close enough to walk to many of the local attractions. For those further away it is close to a metro station. Staff were friendly and the accommodation of a good standard. The one challenge is finding the place! It is in the "hutongs" which are a sprawling area of old alleyways. The initial approach is along a busy, touristy, bustling hutong - after that it is a leap of faith to walk down a much darker, narrower alley with no clear indication that a top class hotel is situated some way down it. It is worth the effort, full of character with the rooms arranged around tranquil courtyards containing pools of carp.

Beijing Blitz
Great location secreted between 2 lane ways which is dead quiet. Great place to retreat t after a hectic day on the busy streets. At the end of the street is another laneway full of restaurants and shops - plenty for everyone. Close to Tianamin Sq, Forbidden City (about 3 ks) and some very nice gardens. Good market shopping also close by at which your offer should be about 20% of the initial asking price. Great bartering to be had. Definitely recommend.

Mostly very good
The room was beautiful. The hotel is beautiful. BUt you can't control the heat settings in the room. Only way to do that is to open the windows. The "western" restaurant is really just a bar with limited and not very good food, not very good wine, and a bartender who can't speak english. Be prepared. Or go out to the pedestrian mall to eat. Hotel is on a tiny street that isn't very accommodating to vehicles so don't be surprised if the taxi driver lets you off in the back of the hotel or down several streets or 15 minutes of a walk away from the hotel. Seems Beijing taxi drivers think its ok to drop you quite a ways away from where you actually want to be. Sucks in the cold. Again, being ably to communicate in Chinese helps when this happens. There is usually one hotel staffer who can speak english very well and she seemed to always be somewhere close by. However there isn't much room to negotiate with her regarding securing drivers to do the touristy things around town or to the Great Wall. It's one way, one price regardless of how much or how little time you have to spend out for the day. Again, not a criticism but be prepared that this is just the way it is. It's a convenient location, and the walking mall is great. I'd stay here again, but I know better how to do it next time.

Excellent experience
The hotel located perfectly near the busy walking street which come with lots of local authentic handmade stuff and delights. It is also 5 mins walking distance to train station. The hotel is clean , big and giving an excellent experience . It has a fish pond with bridge and big garden . I am regretted that I only have a night stay. I definitely recommended and will stay in again if I am visiting Beijing.

Boutique hotel in Hutong
We checked in at start of October during cold weather snap - hotel room was very cold, and very dusty. We were very fortunate that the hotel was able to relocate our room to a sunny courtyard area which was fabulous. The room was clean and tidy - much better cleaner that other room. The hotel breakfast is overpriced and below a recommendable standard. The hotel staff whom spoke english were great the girls were able to organise private taxi etc however we felt they could have known more about current tourist happenings like Tianamen Square being closed to tourists. Close to subway and hutongs for dinner

Was just great to wake up to the view of a quiet chinese courtyard. When we travel we try and stay in places that give you a real sense of place. Was fun to explore the entire hotel and all the different courtyards and common rooms. Beds and linens were very nice. Did not try any of their food, as there are so many interesting places to try nearby.

Overrated and poorly maintained
I had a four night stay in September. On arrival, I was brought to my room , which stank of mould and was much smaller than warranted. I wss next brought to a second room similar to the first. The management was indifferent . The third room was only slightly better. The bedroom was large, but the adjacent sitting room/ salon area was uninhabitable due to an unbearable smell of mould. The management and staff remained indifferent and uninterested. Breakfast was second rate. The hotel property generally is not well maintained . The prospect of a stay in a charming if old fashioned hotel in reality turned out to be a visit to an overpriced and rather mediocre, worn out and somewhat dingy hotel. The room fixtures such as cabinet, lamps, wall coverings and carpets and drapery were dusty , old and worn and ill ill repair. The halls and public areas in the hotel are extensively and richly furnished with carved Rosewood, but this does not finally allay the fear that the hotel has seen better days and much more needs to be done to improve the hotel. The hotel is in a good location next to commercialized hutong neighborhood , close to Subway . All in all I was quite disappointed with the hotel , but did not let it detract from an otherwise excellent and stimulating visit to Beijing.

Great. Simply great!
So, we decide to splurge a little and make reservations for the last night in Beijing at Han's Royal Garden Hotel, and we were not disappointed! Right off the bat we are notified that we'd get a free upgrade to a suite (there were only two normal rooms available when we arrived, so I think they wanted to put us in a more expensive room to clear the way for any potential late night arrivals). To make it even better, the room was already booked at a 50% discount! The hotel is built around and inside an ancient (1450s) Ming dynasty general's residence, and is absolutely stunning. It is both quiet and secluded, despite being right in the middle of the bustling night life area of Beijing. The room itself was fantastic; living room and bedroom with plenty of space, and a bathroom spacious enough to host a Mongolian horde if they ever decide to invade again. The staff were super friendly and professional, including several westerners, making it easier to communicate if you should have any issues. The room service is affordable and the Cheesecake is absolutely to die for. Both delicious and juicy, it only sets you back $3.50 even when ordered at 1am. Fast internet comes with the room. The only issue is that in the middle of summer it can get a little humid. There is nothing really to be done with it though, as the air conditioning was working perfectly, and made it nice and cool. Would definitely recommend.

A Different kind of hotel
My three-day stay in the hotel was very pleasant. The hotel is located in traditional Chinese neighborhood which is safe and close to one of famous sightseeing location in Beijing, easy to get tax. The customer service is excellent, when I want to order train ticket through their carriage service, they went out to buy the tickets for me when they are onoine booking system is down. Highly recommend .

Excellent Hotel in a Charming Neighborhood
We stayed there for 9 days while in Beijing for work. The staff was friendly and helpful, the hotel was authentically beautiful and the neighborhood was charming and comfortable. While I'd wholeheartedly recommend the hotel to anyone, people on business trips need to be mindful that taxis are not right out front of the hotel and its a process to have one called for you. That was a minor inconvenience considering there's a subway stop nearby and tons of bus access. Plus the neighborhood itself is quite walkable and close to main attractions. Stay here - you'll love it!

A Different Beijing Hotel Experience
This is a courtyard hotel situated within walking distance of Nanlougaxiang Hutong, Yan Dai Xie and Hou Hai. Wonderful place to stay in Beijing if you wish to experience something different from the cookie cutter Marriots and Shangrilas. There is no gym or pool. What you get instead are several beautiful Chinese-themed courtyards and museum like decor. We didn't eat in the restaurant, but had a few drinks by one of the courtyards which was very enjoyable. It felt like I was transported back in time to an olden Chinese Mansion. Rooms are generally ok. Nothing to write home about, but comfy and large. The hotel quite honestly needs a bit of renovation. The carpets and room finishes are starting to show their age. And the integrated bathtub-shower design was impractical. (overflows when using shower) Not a 5 star hotel, but my wife and I still thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will recommend this establishment for those wanting a different and more authentic Beijing hotel experience.

Fantastic Hotel
This is the place to stay in Beijing if you have several days to experience this great city. Staying in the Hutong really makes a big difference from the big hotels. You feel like you are in China. This is luxury in the middle of the Hutong. If you can afford it and have the time, this is the place. We stayed nine nights and could have stayed longer, it is great and worth it.

A Chinese Courtyard Hotel
An authentic Chinese experience as the hotel has been fashioned from a royal mansion with single level rooms situated around four beautiful courtyards. In addition, the hotel itself is located in a hutong, a traditional "alley" neighborhood, of which few remain in modernizing Beijing. Being in a hutong is like living in old China with wonderful small shops and restaurants. A lake with boats is nearby and a renowned restaurant for Peking duck. The negative of the location is that taxis don't recognize the name of this boutique hotel as they would a large hotel and must search for directions to the location, The hotel provides guests with directions to give to taxi drivers. Also they don't like to go into hutongs which are congested but you can exit on an adjacent thoroughfare. Do not take rickshaw drivers -- only taxis. The hotel has no swimming pool but does offer massage service. There were two Western staff members who spoke English as well as Chinese staff whose English was limited but serviceable. The hotel arranged a private tour for me to the Great Wall and Summer Palace at a very reasonable rate. The buffet breakfast combines Asian and Western food; it is quite ample and good. Altogether I found this a lovely environment filled with greenery and objects d'art to delight the eye and soothe the spirit.

GORGEOUS hotel with a full sense of the courtyards of the well-to-do in China a century or more ago. Important that there's one person on duty at all times who speaks fabulous English and is remarkably helpful. I had the best dinner I've had in Beijing at the Chinese restaurant there in a room to myself. Breakfast was only moderate, better some days than others but never great. Fascinating area the hotel is in --a hutong-- but cab drivers are disgruntled about having to find it and sometimes refuse to drive in so one has to walk 100 meters. Also: carry the hotel's card to give taxi drivers AND learn the names of the two roads that surround the hutong. Lastly, I had much trouble staying connected to g-mail and had to sign in repeatedly to receive my mail, not only in my room (each room has a router I believe) but also on the business-space computer).

Best hotel in Beijing!! Not only are the hotel grounds gorgeous, but the staff is amazing! An oasis in the middle of the Hutong community
I recently stayed at the Han's Royal Garden Hotel for business reasons and was delighted with the welcome and quiet aspect of the hotel. I have visited Beijing a few times and have stayed in more commercial/western-suitable hotels. I was looking for a true Chinese experience this time and the Han's Royal Garden excelled on that point. Hidden away from the hustle & bustle but nestled in the middle of an active Hutong community, the Hotel offered every luxury you needed after a long work day. I booked the Han's suite which was huge by Asian standards. Very large and comfortable bedroom, separate lounge area and enormous bathroom enabled you to feel right at home. Big bonus with a TV in the bath room, bedroom and lounge area. The staff were very accommodating. Both Stacey & Sara at reception were excellent ambassadors and most helpful with advice and ideas. All staff were happy to see you and offer support if needed. You have to try the subway system - for $2 Yuan you can travel as many stations as needed along as many lines as needed. Safe, simple and very cheap. The Hutong community was fantastic. Made for a very realistic Chinese experience, ambling down the narrow streets and looking at the various shops. Great restaurants and take-away type shops to choose from. I felt very safe walking around the Hutong late at night. I will definitely stay there on my next business visit.

“Courtyard living like back in time of the empire”
Who does like the old authentic feeling came to the right place. A lot of historie in this place. Antique furniture thru the whole hotel. Very nice. The rooms are updated so don't worry. The staff was very helpful particularly Sarah and Stacy. Some problems with the internet was solved right away. We got also tips where to go for shopping and food. That worked just fine. Sitting in the middle of all this little hutongs ( small side streets ) gives you he real feeling of China. A lot of places you can walk to like temples, markets and lakes. All in all a good choice to stay. Saying that there is a few things to keep in mind, your are in China. Lifestyle is different. So cleanliness and the love to details are just not there. To bad. Who loves hard bedding and pillows will be happy. The discreption of the rooms are not quite correct and some services are not available. The chine's restaurant is very nice but the food is average and way to expensive. The western restaurant we been told is not great either. But there are a lot of places to eat and good once too. Make sure you get a taxi from the hotel or restaurant it is cheap and the best way to go. Staying on the road and waving might be a little challanging. Not every taxi takes you. But overall not bad, go and enjoy China.

BEYOND ANY EXPECTATION
THE FINEST HOTEL EXPERIENCE YOU WILL FIND IN BEIJING --- GUARANTEED!! WORTH EVERY PENNY. I WOULD FEEL SATISFIED IF I HAD PAID TRIPLE THE RATE. You will not find a better hotel in Beijing. Han's Garden is a Si He Yuan which was a real property of a Qing Dynasty Eunoch. It is tastefully renovated in the Imperial Chinese style but does not come off cheap or kitchy.. TRULY ELEGANT!!!! There are only 32 rooms in the Garden so after sundown it is very quiet and peaceful.. No noise pollution whatsoever. BUT only about 200 meters away is NANLUOGUXIANG which is rising as one of Beijing's hippest hotspots for shopping, hanging out, bars with live music, etc... The hotel also has a large bar, dining and sitting area that is white and black marble, in the ultra modern western style to match the ultra modern room designs all in a outer shell of handpainted and handcarved Zitan and HongMu Chinese fascades. I've stayed in many of the finest hotel accomodations in the world and the BED here was simply the best hotel bed I've ever slept in . I had 3 flatscreen tvs in my room - one in the giant bathtub, one opposite the bed, and one in the sitting room. Multi-room CD player- Breakfast concierge service.. and even late nite local noodle or KFC delivery if u like. I ended up spending much of my time giving my Beijing business colleagues and friends tours of Han's Garden just because it was so stunning. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED by old China hand!!!

If you're after an unforgettable stay....
From the moment I arrived at 2am nothing was too much trouble for the staff. My suite was spacious, modern and beautifully designed. Both Western and Chinese breakfasts were available. The grounds of the hotel were glorious, I loved going back there at the end of the day to unwind. Taxi drivers struggled to find the place, it was easier to walk down the end of the street to catch a cab rather than call one to the hotel. Taxi's are ridiculously cheap so the a bit out of the way location was a very small trade off for the experience I had at this glorious hotel. I loved it!
