This is a unique experience in Beijing to stay in the Hutong. Bobby speaks very good English and is very helpful. The White Pagoda is the nearby temple and can be seen easily from the rooftop terrace. New chairs are needed up there. It is well worth exploring the temple. The rooms are clean. The beds are a little hard but all 3 of us slept ok on them. The courtyard has tables and chairs where breakfast is served and you can sit and read or have tea. It was very hot out there in the afternoons but our rooms were air conditioned. it is not luxurious but it is a fabulous experience.

The breakfast buffet is suited to Eastern tastes and does not have the variety that a Westerner would expect. Our selection was narrowed down to toast and plain bread which is what we had for breakfast.
We could not eat at the hotel restaurant at dinner time for the same reason and looked elsewhere for our food requirements.
Location is great and the hotel was comfortable and quiet.
There is no English spoken anywhere in the hotel and we struggled to communicate when there was a discrepancy with our booking.

Good location, clean, construction out front so ask for room in backside - quiet. Booked cheapest room type so floors 1-3. Stay on floor 2 or 3 as 1 has lobby & restaurant. Hotel is a tall yellow building - says Go To Modern outside, even with address written in Chinese it needs a description of area by hotel - we had front desk person at our Shanghai hotel write it for us. I suggest having it in Chinese. Always a person at the desk spoke good English. Could walk to Temple of Heaven, Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City. When we were done too tired so took cab back for 13Yuan. Can walk 4 blocks about to subway station Line 2. Had maps in stations on the wall - easy to navigate.
