Long weekend break to visit Normandy beaches and some of the military cemeteries.
Ideally placed, bags of character and not too expensive.
Helped by the weather which for the end of October was fantastic.

The hotel staff was terrific. The front desk person was efficient and informative. The staff that set up the breakfast was efficient and accommodating. We were able to start breakfast early and eat in the lobby. What I nice opportunity. We needed to meet the tour bus at 0820 and there is no lift or elevator to the dining room.

Dinner menu- few choices, little description of the items on offer; waiters were little help. e.g.
Q. "Its says 'Pasta' on the menu. Please elaborate"
A. " Its pasta with tomato sauce"
Q. "What type of pasta? Spagetti? Pene? Linguini? Tagliatelli?
A. A shrug!
But the hotel was excellent in all other ways.

So close to the center of town, this property nonetheless has spacious grounds and a garden. OK, my room was up 2 flights of narrow, winding, and uneven wooden stairs, but it's all part of the 18th-century setting. The service level was very high. Mom presided over all and hosted a lovely breakfast, while her lovely 20-something son and daughter scurried around behind the scenes. I loved the family atmosphere. It was a refreshing break from the usual hotel scene.

Situated 9 kilometres from the English Channel, Bayeux survived the Battle of Normandy largely intact, retaining the look of a traditional Normandy town. Its most famous attraction is the Bayeux tapestry, a 70-metre embroidered length of cloth depicting the 1066 Norman conquest of England. The tapestry, listed on UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register, is displayed in a museum in the town centre.
