“Indulgent Weekend & Christmas Markets”

Took a friend and his new wife for a get away weekend after the wedding. Between the three of us we took in a fair selection of the rooms and treats on offer. Stunning environment within and around the property. Fantastic selection and presentation of food at dinner but the waiter service was needlessly frantic and disjointed. The Christmas markets (for them) and proximity to the rugby ground (for me) masked any failings and the only regret was not staying longer.

Area recommendations

Personally I hate crowds, but the shopping in Bath has improved dramatically so crowds are becoming inevitable considering the historical draw cards. During the day get away into the gardens, ramble along the hills and meander along the tow path or just watch rugby. Whatever your preference it is all close by. However, when it comes food in the evening... plan ahead and book early. The choices are bountiful but the competition for seating is intense.

“Nice hotel - however not worth 5 stars - very rude and unfriendly people at the reception”

if you are young, work hard and can afford to book an imperial suite be aware of rude and unfriendly reception staff - especially Stacey - she will try to ruin your stay as her envy will prevail on the courtesy she should provide to her hotel guests.

“Not worth the 5 stars or cost”

Very disappointing stay. Staff not very professional at check in. Breakfast service disoragnised, very expensive and nothing special. Have stayed at plenty of B+Bs with far better breakfast quality. Check out slow, inadequate staff for the demand Room shabby in places and definitely not worthy of 5 stars Excellent location

“Wouldn't go back!”

This was our second stay at the Macdonald Bath Spa. Both times I felt like I was imposing on the staff even when I was simply checking in. It took them 35 minutes to bring our bags to the lobby after we had them stored. A gentleman we were waiting in the lobby with, was furious because he had used their valet service, and once he found the person in the front (they frequently disappeared), they lost his car keys. This is a beautiful hotel in a beautiful city and it is not inexpensive, I think the guests should not feel like they are a bother to the staff. Next time we will try the Royal Crescent!

“Nice Hotel”

This is a beautiful hotel with nice gardens and typically great English service. The spa has 5 different types of excellent saunas, but the hot tub and outdoor pool are a bit small and not heated enough for my taste. No evening meals and room does not include breakfast. Price for breakfast was too high, so chose to eat off site. About a 6 long-block walk to Bath restaurants and historical sites, so be prepared to do some uphill walking or driving to visit the city.

“Great bath hotel”

Wonderful hotel. Staff very helpful and friendly. Spa and leisure facilities excellent. Food and drinks very expensive!

Area recommendations

Everywhere in bath is great! We particularly enjoyed the American museum, but take a taxi as it is 2 miles up a very steep hill!

“Great location + good service”

We got a good deal on Expedia + we loved the hotel. Just a short walk to everything in Bath + the highlight for us was was drinks and/or dinner on the terrace in the evenings. The rooms are not super-modern, but light, clean + ok. We were lucky with fantastic weather, but had a great 3 day stay at this hotel...
