“Lovely Guest House | Friendly Staff | Great views of Bath”

Had a great couple of nights stay at The Astor, lovely loft room with lcd tv, en-suite, tea and coffee making facilities etc. Very clean. Great staff who were most welcoming. Lovely full english breakfasts too! 10 min walk downhill (25 up!) to bath town centre and all the attractions. good base

“Worse hotel in Bath”

Beds were very uncomfortable, when i arrived the keys where left outside with an envelop with my name. Wifi was not reliable, B&B was not in the location it was advertised and it rating was 4 starts but it actuality its a 2. Service was less than standard. Do not stay at this hotel if you think it's a 4 starts.

“Lovely place, will definitely go back”

We really enjoyed our stay here. The room was superb, the bed was lovely and comfortable and we both slept very well during our 3 night stay. Breakfast was also tasty, although my breakfast on the second day could have done with being a bit less greasy. The centre of Bath is a short walk away (about 10 minutes). It's downhill on the way in, so uphill on the way back, but there are regular buses if you don't fancy the walk. We just walked back and didn't find it too strenuous. Overall, I'd recommened it.

“Disappointing Breakfast”

This is a charming guest house with nicely decorated rooms. It is a good 15 minute walk up hill from the train station or the same downhill (great views of the town on the way down) so need to be prepared for that. Bus routes pass in front of or down the street from the guest house as well. We had no problem with the walking. The big disappointment for us though was the breakfast. It is only served for one hour from 8 am to 9 am; the full english offered only poached or scrambled eggs that had clearly been prepared long in advance and were barely edlible. Sausages were not nice, bacon was off and potatoes had the taste of being kept in the freezer too long. Grilled tomatoes and the beans were OK. Mushrooms were overdone. Staff were friendly and efficient so it was too bad. Thought I would try a croissant the next morning - the rest of the family chose to eat elsewhere that morning - and it too was like rubber as if it had been reheated in a microwave. I would recommend this place if you had the choice not to have breakfast there, otherwise if this is something you look forward to when travelling you might want to consider elsewhere. Breakfast is pretty easy to do well for small groups - there were only 5 people both mornings. A shame.

“Excellent Bath Hotel”

The Astor was a fantastic guest house. The people running it were extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms were absolutely stunning in terms of decor and cleanliness. The breakfast choices catered for both continental and full English tastes, with fairtrade products, and allergies catered to (I have a gluten allergy, and they didn't bat an eyelid when I requested gluten free bread). Would definitely go back to this place again, it was extremely impressive.

“Not 4 star, more like a 2 star lodging”

Hotel management were unavailable. Check in and check out times were non-standard and inconvenient. Accommodation was mediocre and tired. Location was especially inconvenient.

“What a disappointment!”

It was very off-putting to arrive after quite a long journey to be greeted with 2 envelopes. The room did not fulfil expectations. It was cramped, with a tiny area for clothes, behind a curtain, and no hairdryer or telephone as promised in the brochure. The height of the tv gave a crick in the neck and the reception was terrible. The breakfast was very poor. The staff were unsmiling and the cooked breakfast arrived so quickly after being ordered I doubt it was freshly cooked for us. The table was not cleared and soon became very full. I was told to put the spare crockery on the window sill. The only interaction we had with the owner was just as we were leaving when she rushed towards us to check we had paid and to grab the keys. I appreciate that times are hard and that economies have to be made, but a smile and a friendly greeting cost nothing. Finally I just cannot understand that after several reviews mentioning the lack of welcome on arrival this has not been remedied.

Area recommendations
The whole city is a great place to visit. The buildings are visually very attractive. I can recommend the Thermae Spa. You can book a 2 hour spa session, plus 2 treatments and a 2 course meal for a reasonable price. The staff were very pleasant and it was a very relaxing floatjng in the warm roof top pool, overlooking Bath.
Getting there
We travelled from London and booked very reasonable single tickets, (it's cheaper than a return), through Trainline.
Must see
We went on a boat trip and used a little green boat which had an electric engine. The owner was charming and knowledgeable and the quiet engine made it a very relaxing experience.
Dining
We had a lovely meal at Jamies. I can also recommend afternoon tea at the Pump Room. Champagne, smoked salmon, cream scones and cakes......hmmmmm.

“great experience”

Excellent guest house. Clean and friendly. Facilities good.. My husband was having difficulty walking and therefore we abandoned any attempt to walk into Bath from the hotel which under other circumstances would have been possible though those not in the best of health should note that it is hilly. However, it was easy to find long stay parking within a short driving distance of the hotel at Victoria Park and sight seeing buses run from a street which is just a short stroll away from the park. The sight seeing tours were worth while and entitle you to discount entry to some of the places to visit in Bath including the Roman Baths.

Getting around
The sight seeing tours were good value for money
Must see
Roman Baths and the Crescent.
Dining
Lots of restaurants but local pub THE BEAR was popular for food special nights on most wednesdays so may need to book.

“Very pleasant guest house”

Couldn't fault it. Very friendly, and well organised. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and well stocked up with tea and coffee etc. The breakfast was delicious and varied. Location was good. A quiet area of town, and within reasonable walking distance to the centre. Couldn't ask for more really.
