We stayed at Hotel Basel over night to board our river cruise trip. The front desk staff are very friendly and efficient. The man checking us in made a great suggestion for a walk. If we would have gone the way I thought, we would have ended up in an industrial end of town.
Beautiful city and the hotel's location is perfect!! Right in the middle of city centre and close to market square.
Would stay again.

We booked this to be a luxury base whilst visiting family in Basel over Christmas. Very attentive staff, excellent facilities. This was an ideal base for us, being centrally situated in the town with everything either a short walk or tram ride away. Our very comfortable room had excellent views over the Rhine. We enjoyed being so close to the famous Christmas Markets.

My friend and I stayed here one night as a stopover between Zermatt and Luxembourg and it was great. The staff was extremely friendly and answered all questions that we had. We were only in the town for a few hours and the woman at the desk was able to give us a run down of exactly what we should see. Since we were leaving the hotel the following morning at 5:45, we were going to miss the complimentary breakfast. In order to make up for this, the hotel packed was large lunches free of charge! The room was super clean and very spacious. I would definitely stay here again!

This is a new hotel with a great staff and services. We came in on a rainy Sunday evening and couldn't find an open restaurant, but that wasn't the hotel's fault. The walk to our river cruise the next morning was only a few blocks. Very convenient to both the river and the old part of Basel. Like other reviewers, we found the exterior window shades confusing but a e would stay there again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Passage on our first trip to Basel. It is easily reachable on foot from the SBB station and has a very clean and welcoming atmosphere. The décor is very modern but neutral. The triple glazing blocks out the sound from the outside (although we were overlooking the garden). The rooms are well lit and the bathrooms are very clean and well appointed. The gym, for a hotel gym, is excellent.
There are a few things we noticed for improvement. I have listed them in order of priority:
--There was no mattress protector on the bed.
--The pillows were dreadfully uncomfortable and had no protectors.
--The bathroom is lovely but the towel rails haven't been well managed. There is no way to hang two bath towels to air or get to from the shower.
--There was only one armchair in the executive room.
Other than those four items, there is no fault to be picked. The staff, both at the front desk and the cleaning staff, were friendly and attentive. The hotel is very new and it is obvious that there is still a refining of operations in progress but it was certainly better than other established brands that I have stayed in.
We arrived early, and were given a room upgrade, to a very nice, spacious room. Breakfast is very good, but try not to go when it is busiest, as the staff can't keep up with the table clearing.
Overall, I would give the Spalentor a high rating.

Quiet, friendly, clean, a nice lounge with complimentary glass of wine, short walk to attractions, easy to get to (one stop on #30 bus from bannhof sbb), a printed copy of the booking lets you ride in from airport on the bus and the complimentary mobility pass gives free public transit. Exceeded expectations for a reasonably priced hotel and better than a lot of expensive ones.
