“Not fancy but fine if the price is OK”

Clean, comfortable rooms and friendly staff. Don't look for olde worlde charm, but it's perfectly competent and an easy stroll from the airport bus stop. Using the supplied visitor pass buses and trams will take you anywhere in the city from just outside. Breakfast is available (but pricy) in the top-floor cafe - good views and they should use the location more. Alternatively stroll round the corner to the Bachman confiserie or the station cafe. Lack of aircon was a bit of an inconvenience during our (very hot) stay. We slept with the window open, but then you get traffic noise. Price relative to other hotels in the area can vary widely depending on when you go. Check out the options but if it looks like good value, go for it.

Metropol is a privately owned hotel, once part of the Euler hotel next door. In general it is a comfortable place to stay, the rooms are generous, the staff helpful, and it has baths that you can wallow in after a stressful day on a business trip, something that is not always guaranteed travelling in Europe. Although it does not have a bar or restaurant, its ties with the Hotel Euler do mean that room service can be obtained, alternatively there are numerous restaurants in the vincitity. For a late night drink, the hotel will serve drinks in reception. In general it is a good place to stay in Central Basel, and reasonably quiet from the tram noise that besets most other hotels there

alles sauber, freundliche Rezeption, super Zimmerkomfort. Das Zimmer wirkte sauber, aber es hatte einen gewissen schlechten Geruch.

Ideale zentrale Lage nahe SBB (Hauptbahnhof von Basel). Geräumiges Zimmer. Ausstattung in warmen hellen Farben. Badezimmer klein, aber blitzsauber. Frühstücksbuffet in 8. Etage mit Ausblick auf die Stadt sehr empfehlenswert. Freundliches Personal. Rundum zu empfehlen. Einziges Handicap: Zugang zur auf Hochparterre liegenden Rezeption nur über ca. 1 Dutzend Treppenstufen. Schwierig mit schwerem Gepäck. Personal bietet aber Hilfe an.
