“Only there for the football.”

The hotel was very good. Clean large rooms good breakfast (but not full English!). friendly and helpful staff. Not the best location for the football stadium but handy for the centre of town being just a few stops away on the free tram system which is excellent. We did not see much of the town so I cannot comment on the cultural aspects but the bars were generally friendly but we did find them expensive even compared with central London. The restaurants also came out on the high side but a better exchange rate may help (10 Swiss francs were £6.40 when we went).

“Very impressed with Spalentor hotel”

The hotel is in the process of being refurbished but it was so clean and everything looked fresh as it was. The hotel was close to the old town and there were excellent transport links to the airport, station and other parts of the town. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful . I had e mailed them with some questins prior to leaving the UK and they replied immediately. The rooms were spacious and very clean . There was an excellent buffet breakfast in the dining room on the 5th floor. Free access to the internet enabled me to book in the day before for my return flight home and to print my boarding pass which saved me time at the airport. The bar was rather small but very pleasant.

Area recommendations
The area around the old town , the cathedral although this at present is covered in scaffolding while it is being cleaned. There is also a zoo in the city.
Getting around
Travelling around Basle is so easy. There is an excellent transport system of trains, trams and buses . All visitors also receive free travel passes from their hotel when they register. Taxis are expensive but you do not really need to use them.

“Service and Location”

The service of those that worked at the hotel was both freindly and helpful. The location was ideal, easy access to the public transportation and walking distance from the city center.

“Good location, quiet , low-key.”

Well kept ,smaller hotel off the main street, but in walking distance of main shopping centre, botanical gardens, university and tram transport passes by. Breakfast is most adequate but not elaborate

“great little hotel”

Great hotel in a great location - free transport pass in Basel and easy access to airport and station. Staff very helpful and room was huge and comfortable. Nice stay :)

“Comfortable, clean and good value”

Well priced and comfortable hotel. The room was clean and spacious. Free WiFi and a good breakfast all included. I will use this hotel again.

“another over priced Basel hotel”

This is a fairly standard two/three star hotel. Front side rooms may be affected by traffic noise at the busy junction. No real facilities at the hotel. Breakfast was not very imaginative. Rooms were okay but not especially comfortable. Convenient for University and getting into town, but nothing special and quite typical of the two/three star hotels in Basel.

“ok”

Stadthotel mit zentraler Lage, d.h. aber auch, der Verkehr war zu hören. Ausgesprochen netter Service, Zimmer allerdings in der Nähe des Frühstückraumes, so dass die Geräusche morgens zu hören waren. Frühstück erst ab 7.00
