An interesting old hotel with charm but a small room. The dining room was nice and the food very good. I ate there every night as there was a good menu and easy to get back to bed after.

The staff was great - efficient, courteous and very helpful. The location of the hotel was also great - right in front of the hotel are trams and buses, and nearby are many restaurants, fast food outlets and supermarkets. Also around the corner was a money changer.

Overall we had a good stay. The staff was courteous. Pretty convenient to get to by trams and has plenty of food options nearby.

The description and pictures shown in Expedia do not match with reality. First of all, It does not have a parking that belongs to the hotel. I had to park 5 blocks from the hotel in a public parking. The elevator is unsafe and looks pretty old. They do not have AC. The hotel staff provided me a small fan for my wife, my son and I. The breakfast was dirty. I saw multiple flies around the bread, ham and yogurt. The staff didn’t even bother to take care of this issue. I do not recommend this place. I do not put this kind of comments but I feel the duty to do so.

Unexpectedly, we were provided Basel cards that covered tram and bus transportation and reduced entry to museums. There are three major trams at the hotel doorstep, making getting to town center a five minute ride. We liked being by local neighborhood shops and restaurants. The hotel restaurant is not only good, but has very friendly staff. I would choose this place again. Note, this is by no means the Ritz, but clean, safe, friendly and affordable go a long way for me.

Great Stay!!
Overall a great stay! Hotel room was very clean and comfortable, and actually bigger than expected. Also super close to bars, restaurants, and the tram! The staff was also super helpful and accommodating. If I were to go to Basel again, I might stay on the other side of the river, because I like that area more. But it’s super easy to travel in Basel with the tram! You can be anywhere within 10-15 mins.

The hotel room I stayed in was not as pictured online. My room was a bit run down. The hotel does have rooms under construction so maybe there are other rooms that look like the pictures. Also there is not 24/7 receptionist. There was a lot of waiting inorder to check in. I thought my room was quite a bit dusty.

Room was recently refurbished - nicely done! Corner room has character. Warm night, loud on the streets below, fan was helpful. Pub setting for breakfast was a bit odd. Food was good. Affordable option, convenient location.

They did not man the reception desk. It was a long 20 to 25 minute wait before some showed to check us in. They put us on the 4th floor and the elevator only went to the 3rd. We are 72 with cruise luggage but they would not adjust the room. The room has no air conditioning and is very small. The was locked so we needed to get help in order to us. It is in no way a three star hotel. The photos do not give an accurate depiction of the place. The best thing on this stay is the location.

It is just a two star hotel. Room was very clean, staff is super nice and helpful. The room was very small had no a/c, coffee maker was leaking, shower door was not closing properly which made the entire floor wet. The area is ok. Taxi driver told us not to go outside after dusk because it is not safe. We noticed that just two streets up was Marriott, only 20 euros more than we paid here.

Good location, not so good accommodation
After a satisfactory check in late in the evening, arrival at our room induced a bit of worry in seeing that the hallway carpeting was stained and very worn in need of cleaning or replacement. The room was a good size, by European standards, and the big roomy shower was a welcome comfort. Cons: The beds were the typical Euro style two twin beds scooted together, but they were in need of replacement as the mattresses were weak and provided inadequate back support. Disappointingly, the room refrigerator was inoperable and the front desk informed me that it was "old" and they didn't have any others to swap it out. Nor was another room with working fridge offered. Oh well. The television was a nice size modern flat screen but most of the channels were not viewable due to a "missing smart card". Fortunately we didn't need to watch much TV during our 4 night stay. Quite irksome was the fact that the coffee service in room was not replenished when room was serviced, and upon asking the maid for extra coffee told me there was a charge! Unacceptable. The breakfast offered in an adjacent restaurant was a buffet style, but when we went to check on it before trying it out, it appeared that several items were depleted and not being replaced, so we skipped it. Generally it appeared that the hotel was understaffed, and needed refurbishing in some aspects. Comparing notes with a fellow traveler we found out that the nearby Pullman hotel was better for the price, Buyer beware.

Nice people but rooms are run down
Rooms were probably good circa 1990. Shower head kept falling off and hitting me, spiders, threadbare sheets.

No One should Ever Book Here!
Deceptive pictures led to this booking-Unless they took these pictures in 1955 and haven't cleaned it since. No one should consider booking here and Hotels.com should refund anyone who books here. This entire place should be gutted floor to floor. Dingy, stained, mold, flickering electric, furniture from a dumpster, nothing in our room worked properly-Tv, zero internet in room, sketchy fixtures/outlets, broken window handle, curtains with visible grunge. And there's NO way this is a 'particular room' issue. This is a 3rd world motel in a 1st world location. Certain to make you feel gross just walking from the lobby to your room.

Somewhat stuffy in the rooms in the rooms on warm days, and some of the rooms didn’t have oscillating fans, so to stay cool had to open windows which made it noisy in the evenings from the restaurants and trams below. Enjoyed the great location, comfy beds, clean linens and towels, and helpful friendly staff.

This hotel has not been renovated in ages. The entire room smelled horribly of cigarettes and the bathroom was small and not comfortable. Book your accommodation elsewhere!

Vintage rooms but nice staff and close to centre.
Everything was fine, I got in Basel during a busy week with the exposition centre, hence most hotels either sold out or much more expensive than usual. This hotel was way cheaper... room are quite old. However all functional, staff nice, and close to the centre. Breakfast OK, in line with expectations. Staff helpful and nice.
