All excellent, apart from two aspects:
1) I appear to have been charged twice for this reservation. When we arrived at the hotel on 26 June they said we had booked two rooms and after we got back from Italy (last week) I saw two identical entries on my credit card account. But we only booked one room and I have only the one itinerary (18865423784). [I have sent a message to expedia customer support about this.] Since we arrived after dark, already rather stressed with the hire car from Bari airport, we were not pleased to be greeted by this news (the hotel receptionist was excellent, however).
2) Despite the high quality of the room facilities in general, we were unhappy that there was no way of turning off one of the lights (above the window), which contributed to a less than perfect night's sleep.
This hotel has the best breakfast included in the price. The rooms are luxurious and the staff was helpful although they struggle with English. It added to the complete Italian experience where you have plenty of opportunity to speak Italian.
Decent hotel, the main lobby is nice but the rooms feel like they were renovated a while ago at this point, could use to be updated. Worst part was that, like a lot of hotels in Italy, there was no option to control the room temperature, only how much heat came out of the vent. Also got some grief from the front desk staff having to argue about the breakfast clearly included in my expedia purchase. Otherwise not too bad (and the breakfast is actually quite good once you get around that other part)
Although we used our TomTom GPS, the hotel is slightly hidden and cannot easily seen from the street. A friendly local Italien kindly kindly showed us the way. We arrived late in the season and not many guests were there, so you feel quite lonely in the restaurant. That being said, the food was of good quality and delicious and the menu changed daily. The wine list is not very elaborate but very good and reasonable wines. In general the staff is very friendly and makes you feeling welcomed. The reception is very friendly and do speak English. The pool is great and drinks and towels are provided. All in all a nice experience. if you want to venture into town, it is best to take a taxi as parking in Bari can be tricky.
Located at the top of Apulia's 'Heel of Italy', Bari is a bustling university town, and Italy's second largest southern city. The ornate, castle-like Basilica of Saint Nicholas stands proudly in the centre of the winding streets of old town, a short stroll from the harbor on the Adriatic coast. As the gateway between Italy and the Balkans, the Port of Bari is the departure point for many cruises.
