“good location to port and las hambras but average overall. bad Wifi”
Convenient location. rip off on WIFI. charge $17.00 per day!!!air conditioning didn't work...thank goodness windows opened. Beds were hard. Staff was nice and very helpful. great and safe location for walking around. near the Metro and taxis. will try somewhere else next time but in a jam would book here again
“Tryp Apolo has a convenient location”
Tryp Apolo met my needs for one overnight in advance of boarding a cruise ship. Easy walking distance to Las Ramblas and the cruise ports. I walked from the hotel across the bridge to the cruise port to board. A comfortable 45 minute walk. The Apolo had my reservation confirmation number and I got my room in minutes. Cleaning staff were helpful in answering my only question about how the lights function using your room key - the first time I have experienced this technology. A comfortable safe place to stay.
“Air conditioning was cut off”
Even thought it was November, it was hot in Barcelona. But HOTEL has already been cut off all air conditioning and I could not sleep because it was too hot in the hotel room.
“Not what we expected”
Recommend? Yes with strong qualifications. Maybe this was just a case of being an "ugly American" but we did not enjoy our hotel stay. For my wife her biggest gripe is that they do not have wash cloths. From talking to others this is apparently a "Spain thing". While I would not say the rooms were dirty neither were they clean to the level we expect in our hotels in the US. We also found the staff to be quite stiff but that might be due to the language difficulty. I know very little Spanish and I don't think the check in staff appreciates the need to converse in English. They were not rude, just "stiff."
“Pre cruise stay”
The location was not the best for late night ( Strip Club across the street ) but was convenient to the Cruise terminal and short walk to Las Ramblas albeit the bad end of Las Ramblas. The hotel was clean and the services were good. The non included breakfast was a standard tour type breakfast. It might be good for the first night until you aclimate to the area but the buffet boring for multiday and overpriced.
“Was told breakfast was on special 2 for 1 then charged full price”
Hello location was good for what we wanted and at our request we were moved to sixth floor to have view of sea. My only issue was with the breakfast which we were told was on offer with 2 for 1 , the breakfast was eleven Euros per person normally so for two people it seemed like a good deal. The breakfast was very good, particularly Friday morning (lots of business people). We arranged for our breakfast for Sunday to be packed in a picnic box as we had to leave early. On checking out we were charged full price for all breakfasts (I would never have paid this amount for breakfast, I would have gone out to find somewhere as I was on holiday) and our picnic breakfast had not been packed. When it did arrive we had to go for our taxi or I would have sent it back. What was inside could only be described as rubbish, bruised fruit, white bread cheese and ham sandwich which had obviously been prepared for some time and was similar to one received when ordering toasted sandwich the day before (can only assume they are ready made and then toasted to order) the sandwiches in our boxes were cold hard and flabby. It was a really bad end to our stay and i would not recommend staying there.
“Good value, not a four star, however.”
The pictures look good, however, the hotel is a little worn such as the leather furniture in the lobby. The bed is very firm, but we slept fine. Our friends had rooms by the main road and it was noisy. We faced the back and very quiet. Over all it was just OK.
“Might go back if in Barcelona”
We stayed at the Tryp Apolo for 2 nights prior to going on a cruise. It was well situated for the port. I was a bit concerned when I read some of the reviews but found it OK for us. Were'nt too happy with the location neighbourhood but it was quite convenient for the Ramblas, about 5 min walk away. We found the hotel staff excellent and very obliging; we ate in for breakfast which was half price - 11 euros. Wouldn't have liked to spend 22 euros though. The beds were comfortable, 6ft, and you could have a choice of pillows to suit. Ours were ok so we didn't bother with that service. Choice of TV was mainly Spanish and news channels. We felt that the rooms were ready for a refurb although the public areas were smart. The reception staff were very helpful and pleasant. We would recommend the Tryp but don't expect luxury.
“Not a bad location but.......”
Not a bad location as walking distance to Las Ramblas however you must walk through a very seedy part of town. Best not to make any eye contact as store owners quite aggressive and insist you buy something whether you want to or not. The hotel itself is a very simple hotel. Don't expect much or you will be disappointed. The beds and pillows are terribly uncomfortable, the air conditioning however did work great. Bathroom not the best but functional. Not a room you want to spend too much time in. Clean but could have been cleaner. Check in was pretty quick but did not get early check in as requested. Definitely not a 4 star hotel, more like a 3 or maximum 3.5.
“Great vacation”
You could walk to nice restaurants and shops.
