“EXCELLENT Hotel/Location”

My husband and I stayed at Grandos 83 for the second leg of our honeymoon after visiting Mallorca, Granados was extremely welcoming and warm. Considering how unfriendly our hotel was in Mallorca, we were so relieved to find this. Grandados 83 was recommended to us by friends that also had their honyemoon in Barcelona and they loved it just as much. The neighborhood is great and very safe in comparison to other areas. It is also very accessible to the metro which takes you anywhere you want to go. When we arrived at Granados 83 it was late on a Friday and we were first given an interior room with no windows and it was still pretty comfortable. The staff was amazing, brought us a bottle of cava, YUM, and upgraded us first thing the next morning to a larger room on the top floor. Everything we needed was taken care of including helping us get tickets to an FC Barcelona game. I cannot stress enough how happy we were with our stay at Granados 83 and will stay at one of their properties again on my next visit to Europe. Only note would be to make sure you recommend a room with a balcony and the interior room is definitely not where I would have wanted to continue to stay, but still not bad. The hotel has a great little pool on the roof that was great to soak my sore feet in at the end of a long day of siteseeing and the bar serves yummy cocktails and tapas.

Area recommendations
L'Exiample - very safe and great shopping/cafes and easy access to metro. Not sure I would have felt comfortable staying anywhere else. We walked to Las Ramblas from our hotel, Placa de Catalunya and Placa de Gracias were within blocks which have a few Gaudi creations which are one of the most beautiful of all of his works, in my opinion. Also, La Sagrada Familia was a couple metro stops away which was amazing to see as well.
When to go
We went in the end of October and had great weather for walking around but it quickly cooled off.
Getting around
The metro was great, make sure you have a purse that zips and that you are aware of your surroundings. There are TONS of warnings about pick pocketers but I heard from even our flight attendant that someone tried to pick his pocket on Las Ramblas.
What to pack
Comfortable shoes, light sweaters/jacket, purse/bag that zips - no backpack as you will end up walking around with it on your chest, saw lots of tourists doing this. We had a euro cash card given to us as a wedding gift which was so great, highly recommend getting one of these as you aren't charged a fee and you can cash it out for dollars when you return.
Shopping
There was a great store that we found on Placa de Catalunya called Muy Muy Mucho - there are these great little wine glasses that they use in the tapas cafes that I really wanted, this place had them for 0.65 euros each! They had great housewares and gift options. Placa de Gracias and Cataluyna are all very high end designers flagship barcelona stores but all stores that we have in the states mostly. Las Ramblas doesn't have great shopping but La Boqueria was just too amazing not to visit - though we were grossed out by much of it - they had great little wine shops that offer tos ship back to the states but also are really helpful in recommending good spanish wines and speak english too.
Dining
Place de Relais - off of the Las Ramblas in Barri Gotic neighborhood was so quaint and cute you wouldn't know that the bustle of Las Ramblas was right there. We ate at an italian cafe called Rossini for lunch which was great and we chatted with other tables drinking wine and sangria...lots of fun.

“Good Hotel- Great Location”

This hotel was very nice in terms of its modernism. Very cool decor in the lobby. The room was rather small and simple but that is expected in European countries. The room was cleaned daily. My favorite part of the room was the balcony. On the rooftop, there's a little, cute pool. Overall excellent service. The hotel staff was always very nice and helpful. They spoke English, which was great. This hotel is a few blocks away from La Pedrera, Passeig di Gracia, Rambla de Catalunya, and the famous Rambla. I would definitely go back again. Wonderful hotel and staff!

“Barcelona gem”

A modernised, stylish and somewhat funky interior design suits this small hotel which is well situated in the Eixample area. Very close to many of the sights of barcelona, but not too close to the overcrowded areas dominated by tourist traffic. Great bars, tapas and restaurants within 5 minutes walk of the hotel. Staff friendly and very helpful. Only gripe is limited wi-fi access.

“Great little Hotel”

Just returned from my 2nd trip to Barcelona visiting friends. The Granados 83 is a bit further away from the main action around Las Ramblas (about a 10-15 minute walk), but a great little neighbourhood with lots of bars and restaurants surrounding. The rooftop pool and bar was also a welcome relief after a day punding the pavements, and an excellent spot for watching the sun go down over the mountains. It's also really well placed for the train to Sitges (the main station s just off Passeg de Gracia) if you want a day by the beach out of town. Hotel itself is small, and cosy - I only had a single room with an internal courtyard view, but it was all that was needed. Will, on the front desk, was extremely helpful with check-in , and always happy to suggest restaurants and transportation options. I'd definitely recommend this hotel, and will certainly book again on my next trip to this beautiful city!

“Beware of the single rooms”

Despite the website saying the single rooms have a "city view or courtyard view", the hotel told that they ALL have just an inner view. It is NOT a courtyard view - merely onto a tiny internal atrium, at best. The rooms feel like a prison cell and are not somewhere where you would want to spend any time other than to sleep. The standard single was unbearable and the hotel did agree to move me to an "executive single" - the same thing but just a bit bigger. The room door had to be slammed shut and the automatic doors from the lift to the corridor made a loud noise each time they opened. Despite VERY pleasant staff, there are better places to stay in Barcelona.

“Great location”

Great hotel in good location. Only minus was the " pool " - too small to actually swim in. Also, hotel faces construction site. Most of the hotel staff were pleasant and helpful. The interior of the hotel was very modern and chic, yet comforfable. All in all, a great place to stay.

“Good choice”

We were very satisfied with our hotel choice. The most important factor in our decision was the customer reviews. This is a nice clean hotel by European standards. The hotel staff were extremely helpful and went out of their way to help with directions which is more than I can say about many other hotels in Spain. The pool is really not a pool but enough to get you wet. Breakfast was very nice, lots of fresh fruits, juice, breads and cheeses. Location was very good and within walking distance of most attractions. Rooms are very small but adequate and the sink is very contemporary and you have to be careful not spill the water over the edge even when you are washing your hands. You get 1 free hour of wifi but you have to ask for a password at the front desk. A note about tipping in Spain, you don't have to tip, they don't expect it and are not used to being tipped So don't feel bad. I only tipped a few times during our 2 week trip.

Area recommendations
We did not encounter any pick pockets in Las Ramblas. We found it over rated. Shopping is ok but expensive for Americans. Tapas, Tapas and more Tapas and lots of fish. La Familia Sagrada was very interesting and weird and I would only go to see that one. Anything to do with gaudi was weird once you have seen one you have seen them all. Beach is ok. You can enjoy a meal at one of the cafe's that are right on the beach. MontJuic allows you to see the whole city from high up and you can ride the cable car down. Visit the Magic fountain with it's light show is fun to see. Arenas de Barcelona used to be a bull ring but is now a shopping mall and you can visit the museum at the other end which sits at the top of a hill and offers a view of the whole city.
Getting around
Metro system is easy to use and much cheaper than Taxi's. Get a tour bus ride if you haven't been before and don't have any ideas about what to see. Smoking is the worst I have seen anywhere in the world. You get second hand smoke just walking the streets, it's the absolute worst thing about Spain. Tapas, tapas, fish and more tapas! Hard to find good American style coffee.

“Second visit won't be my last!”

We have visited Barcelona twice, stayed at Hotel Granados 83 both times, and plan to stay again next time we visit. We would also be happy to recommend the hotel to friends. The hotel staff , location and style are great. We had a rate that included breakfast this time and were happy with the quality and thought it offered good value. Only small negative point was noise from the tables and chairs being moved on the roof terrace as our room was below it on the sixth floor. However this was not constant so we decided it was not worth asking to move rooms. The hotel is located in Eixample, a short walk from the main tourist hot spots, but we found the quieter, mostly residencial area more pleasant.

“Lovely modern hotel - car park tricky though”

Staff were excellent, hotel great. The only issue was getting in and out of the hotel car park which needed a member of staff to walk you in as the access spiral is JUST enough for a BMW 1 series ... there is another public car park right next door which can be used.
