“Excellent choice”
Having got a bit baffled by reviews of so many hotels and so many locations in Barcelona, I was very happy when we arrived at Laietana Palace. It's location is the best!.. a few yards from Jaume underground, backing on to a roman wall forming the edge of the Barri Gottic.. 20 mins walk to the beach / harbour and surrounded by handy cafes and shops. Cross the road and a five minute wander gets you to a great selection of bars at the back of Santa Maria church. The staff were very helpful and friendly and we had a room at the front with windows to the side and front of the hotel. They were well double glazed which blocked out most of the noise - I'm a very light sleeper and it didn't keep me awake. You can often hear a quiet rubble from the underground but it's quite comforting and I think in a major city it's to be expected. Any little things like the odd scratch on furniture etc are not important to me.. just a fantastic location, clean, modern and friendly place to relax at the end of the day. No silly rules - secure and professional. Excellent... book it.
“Comfort in an excellent location - but...”
Very comfortable room - although air con did not seem to work - at the back overlooking the lane and old city walls. Ever fascinating activity outside. Unfortunately we don't speak Spanish, and found the reception staff, especially the senior older man, gruff. Had difficulty getting supplies of teabags and milk in our room. Tried the hotel desayunos first day, but this was not good value at Euros 12. We went up the road to the cafe or the wonderful Irish pub, Dunn's, from then on. The Hotel is in an excellent position for exploring this wonderful city. All in all we did not worry too much about the problems listed above, we were just delighted to be in Barcelona.
“Nice Hotel, Thin Walls, Subway Below Noisy”
When we arrived at the hotel the reception staff were very friendly and helpful, they gave us a map of the area to help get around and advised us where the nearest restuarants were etc. The Room was as described, we requested a quiet room and were put on the 6t floor (top floor), nice room, marble floors, double bed, tiny wardrobe, TV, Mini bar, bath with shower over (shower height not adjustable). Everything was very clean and well presented. We had no view as from the top floor the windows were sky lights, but the only view would have been the road below and buildings opposite so we weren't too bothered. I wouldn't bother putting a 'Do Not Disturb' sign on your door becuase the maids will still knock, very loudly until you go and answer the door and tell them 'not right now' The very thin walls meant that you could more than easily join in the conversations with the people in the room next door. You could hear every move they made! The Hotel was ontop the metro line, which was great for travelling around, but it passes approx every 4 minutes and the hotel moved with it, I would have hated to have been on the lower floors. It stopped at about 11pm.

Ciutat Vella, Barcelona, Spain: Barcelona's Old Town, the Ciutat Vella takes in the Barri Gòtic and the world-famous promenade of Las Ramblas. The former is the city's medieval core, a maze of atmospheric alleyways clustered around the splendid Gothic Cathedral. Quirky specialist shops and characterful bars and eateries abound. Don't miss the Museu Picasso and the Museu d'Història de la Ciutat, as much for their palatial settings as their content.
