“Excellent hotel”

I have actually responded already to the initial survey regarding this hotel. We booked this hotel using trip advisor and booking through Expedia online .It was the hotel we chose for the beginning of a two week driving trip through Spain .We spent our first 2 days there and knew that we would be just as happy returning there for the last few days of our trip.

Getting around
city tour buses for hop on hop off service.

“Beautiful view”

The hotel was located on the boulevard overlooking the port. Cocktails at sunset on the roof terrace were superb!

“Highly impressed”

We were very impressed the moment we walked into the lobby. Most of the staff spoke english and were very helpful with directions to the local sites of intrest. It was a bit of a walk from the metro station but very easy to find. We had a room on the harbor side and the window had a secondary window that controled the noise from the street below. The room was very quite. If I make it back to Barcelona I will definitly stay here again.

Area recommendations
If you're here on vacation, stay in the Gotico, El Raval or El Borne to be in the heart of the old city.
Getting around
Buy the Barcelona card. It made getting around very simple and gives you discounts to all the attractions, and some of them are free. It's a little confusing when leaving the airport as you board the long distance train (Renfre) to get into the main station in the city. When you get to the station (second stop) there is no signage to tell you where you need to go to get to the Metro but just follow everyone upstairs into the station. Once there you will be able to find signs to lead you to the Metro.

“excellent value for money. We'll go back again!”

The Hotel gives a really good impression at the entrance and the staff are all so friendly and helpful. Our room was OK just there are signs of deterioration, dust and dirt. The proof is that I sneeze and cough every time I was inside the room. Our bed was extremely hard. Me and my partner couldn't sleep without noticing it. The best part was the terrace, great ambience, view and service. The restaurant and the breakfast was delicious. Location is near everything. So despite everything minor flaws, we won't hesitate to book a room in this hotel again.

Area recommendations
Gothic Quarters is very interesting. In general if you follow the well known 'La Ruta del Modernismo' you won't miss a thing. We had the best time dining at the 4 Cats restaurant. I was crying of emotion when I saw Picaso's arts hanging all around the main room. Paseo de Gracias is the best place for those who love a bit of a refined experience and expensive shopping. Don't miss a pit-stop at the Divinus. Great food and drinks for every taste. La Diagonal, is also full of nice shops. If you are traveling with disables or people with walking dificulties, there is a great service that rent electric chairs - Cosmo Scooters. If you like roller blades, bycicles, El Paseo De Colon has an amazin marina front with wide and smooth pavements for everyone to enjoy. At the end of la Rambla, I visited the Maritime Museum and loved to chilled out at the cafe, Is a lovely building with high glass panels that give you the impresion that you are out in the garden but with air conditioning. The Pueblo Espanol is worth visiting if you ever have been to other parts of Spain. The variety of buildings from every region are stuning and a great day out. Don't miss to catch up with the art and crafts you find inside. most are unique and you won't find again outside the atraction.
When to go
Summer is good but make sure you book your holidays when there are good events around. ie Football match with Barca, Interesting concerts at the Palau de la Musica, etc

“pricey but no problems”

The hotel was ideally located for us. We like the old city center and quickly found a great pastry shop near the St Mercy Church nearby for breakfast. The standard tourist areas are nearby like La Rambla, Cathedral, and the many shops in the Gothic Quarter. We also liked going over to El Born that was more local in flavor. We even walked to the Gaudi Basilica. Beyond that I recommend a taxi. The beach is a 20 min walk. The Hotel itself was quiet and a nice retreat from activities during the day. We didn't eat at the hotel - found it expensive but there is a nice view of the port from the 6th floor terrace. There is a small pool also on the 6th floor - about right for one family at a time. The staff was very helpful and quite able to communicate in English.

Area recommendations
Gothic Quarter. This area is very unlike standard Americana. Tall old buildings and narrow alleys with who knows what kind of shop. The most interesting part is the lack of advertising. I didn't know what was ahead until right next to it. There could be a grocery, shoes, hardware, juice, pastry, ice cream, tapas, or other type of shop next to each other or next to a closed up space, old church, or roman ruin. Graffeti is much more common that expected and most shops are securely locked although we never felt unsafe walking down any street or alley.
When to go
We went in late July. Lots of tourists. Most shops don't open until 10, then some close from 2-3:30. Best to stay up late and get up late like the locals.

“Excellent location, close to everything!”

We enjoyed our one night stay at this hotel. The rooftop bar is gorgeous and provides a wonderful view of the harbor and surrounding area. The room itself was spacious and the bathroom was large. The bed was a bit on the older, frumpy side, but surprisingly comfortable. We would definitely visit this hotel again.

Area recommendations
We very much enjoyed checking out the architecture (especially Gaudi), the old cathedrals, La Boqueria (the market, a must see!, look for Pinotxcho for fantastic tapas and eat the chickpeas in truffle oil), La Rambla for people watching and pretty decent/cheap food. Check out the beach (Barceloneta) and the harbor as well. Tons to do, very modern city. Watch out for pick pockets, especially on the metro, especially while boarding in a crowd.
Getting around
Definitely rely on the Metro. Very afforable if you buy a T-10 pass (good for 10 trips). Metro is fast, efficient and runs frequently. No need to cab it.

“Great Location and Service”

We loved our hotel so much that we canceled another hotel later in our trip to re-book the Duquesa de Cardona! The location is perfect, rooms were clean and quiet, the rooftop deck is beautiful although the service is slow, and we couldn't have been happier with the front desk staff. They happily held our bags upon check in until the room was ready, gave us great tourist advice (lots of pick-pockets in Las Ramblas, great restaurants towards the marina, etc.) We are already looking forward to staying there again! The only downfall is that the hotel does not have a fitness center, but we ran along the beach boardwalk.

Gothic Quarter! Beautiful, quiet, pedestrian, wonderful area for wandering around and enjoying the cafes!

“Excellent hotel in perfect location”

Stayed here in March when it was still a bit chilly so did not make use of lovely roof terrace. Hotel was in a perfect location. Staff were extremely helpful and standard of room was very high. They had taken notice of my request for a low floor and seaview which often does not happen. Breakfast was good but expensive so mostly we enjoyed ours in great local cafes. Would not hesitate to recommend this hotel!
