“Can't wait to go back”

The Hotel was fabulous, everything you could ever want, down to toothbrush, toothpaste, razor and shaving foam replaced every day (sometimes twice) Hotel Staff first class nothing to much trouble for them, if you asked for something it was done straight away, both swimming pools first class, can not wait to go back again next year.

All of it, so much to do
Dining
So many Resturants to choose from, best value for money was one in the Square where the fountain was (not sure what it was called)

“Position & Style”

Recently stayed at Hotel1898 on La Rmbla. Great location, many sites within easy walking distance. Close to transport. Large, beautifully appointed rooms. It was a shame to leave. Would love to go back.

“The perfect spot in a perfect city.”

This hotel was a great place to stay during our first (but not last) trip to Barcelona. The front desk staff spoke English, and the common areas of the hotel were extremely comfortable and charming. Our room was a superior room and had everything we needed for a good nights sleep, including a pillow menu! The location is what cannot be beat, however, as it is right on La Rambla. The action is right outside the door, yet the rooms were quiet. The heat/AC controls in each room were a nice touch. Will definitely return.

“An Oasis in the midst of the La Rambla”

After a long flight from the US, we arrived in Barcelona while a student demonstration protesting college cutbacks. Our taxi had to let us out several blocks from the hotel which made the walk with our luggage through the crowds draining our remaining energy. We arrived at the hotel to find an incredibly warm and beautiful lobby and were quickly greeted by the hotel staff. English is widely spoken and we were provided a nice room and perfect restaurant recommendation merely a block away. You will find the property to be top notch, incredibly maintained and superior pool and fitness facilities. Perfect hotel for anyone looking for a top full service hotel in the Rambla.

Area recommendations
La Rambla-recommend the area for a first time visitor to Barcelona. Its central location makes the top sites easily accessible. While the majority of the stores and restaurants in the vicinity are geared to the tourist, it is not at all difficult to find great restaurants and bars. Also, excellent vantage point to reach the often recommended tour bus that provides the ability to get on or off as much as one desires.
Getting around
If you are a first time visitor, make sure you try the tour bus. I am not one that normally likes them but in this case Barcelona's operation is really convenient, comfortable and well priced and helped to provide a great overall appreciation quickly. We were only in town for 2 nights, so we really wanted to efficiently use our time. Spent enough time to enjoy our "taste" making us want to return and spend at least 5 days the next time.

“Beautiful hotel...made our Barcelona city break special”

Hotel 1898 surpassed our high expectations even after having read positive reviews on other websites. It's a highly creative, comfortable environment and I have to say it's fantastic for a four star. This was a special weekend break for us as it was my wife's 40th so I wanted the experience to be really good. The maids were fantastic. I even called them the 'magic elves' as they not only did a great room job, but early evening they would pop in and prepare your room for night (and there are some little nice touches too). The food at 1898 is good, we ate there one night and it was the best meal of our 3 night stay in Barcelona. Drinks are quite expensive at 7 Euro's for half a larger...but outside at the back of the hotel, are little tapas bars that make a nice change and are much better value. The hotel's location is more or less bang in the middle of La Rambla so it makes it really central and easy to commute from. From the room we were in, you could hear some of the outside night life...but it wasn't bad at all and by midnight...ish the area fell silent. Facilities such as the cellar based pool was really nice too, but if you're going to take young children- just watch, as there was no life guard and the pool is lit to enhance the creative mood...we both thought it could be a bit dangerously dark...but it's not too deep either and I suppose you'd have to be old enough to access it - so all in all ok. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Area recommendations
La Rambla is a great cosmopolitan street. You must go to the Gaudi architectural masterpieces such as Casa Batllo which is a 'must see'. also Park Guell (free to enter) and La Pedrera are great too.
Getting around
We bought a two day city tour pass that takes you on a guided tour of the city which is the best way to see it. Take warmer clothes if you go on the open top deck at this time of year...I didn't as the inner city is warm and I thought I would be fine. But the bus goes higher up on the outskirts and the temperature plummets like a stone...

“Central, Convenient, Superb”

Absolutely superb hotel. The facilities were superb, with a wonderful pool, spa and small gym in the basement. There's a fabulous bar, terrace and pool on top of the hotel (amazing in the summer). The rooms were spacious and clean. The hotel common parts were also extremely clean and well maintained. The breakfast was very good, but a bit pricey at 23euros. The staff were wonderfully attentive, helpful and knowledgable. The location of the hotel is hard to beat. A definte recommendation. I look forward to going back.

“Really, Really nice hotel”

Lovely hotel with inviting lobby and roof top pool and bar area with lounges for relaxing and taking in the view. Rooms generous, attractive and clean. Plenty of storage space. Staff very helpful with restaurant recommendations and reservations. Ideally located on Las Ramblas just up the street from La Boqueria market place. Walk right into the oldest barrio of Barcelona and Born barrio.
