“Very comfortable stay”

I would return to the hotel for a second trip to the beautiful city of Barcelona. I particularly liked the general comfort of the hotel and the feeling of safety in the general area.

Area recommendations

Up where the Gallery Hotel was situated. A feeling of safety, good restaurants and wonderful shopping. Near Guidi sites.Metro and buses near-by.

“Good hotel in a convenient location”

We had not been to Barcelano before and so choosing a hotel was a bit of a lottery. However, we were very satisfied with our choice of The Gallery. The great thing was the central location - just off Passeig de Gracia not far from La Pedrera and a couple of minutes walk from Diagonal Metro station so any of the attractions and airport train could be reached quickly. The room (a triple)was clean and comfortable and the breakfast which had been included in our tarrif was more than adequate. We can't comment on the restaurant for other meals as we tended to have a late lunch at a fixed price restaurant while we were out and only needed a snack in the evening. The patisserie across the street filled that requirement admirably. The staff at reception were friendly and helpful.

Area recommendations

Anywhere off Passeig de Gracia. Elegant buildings, lots of shops and close to Gaudi houses and Metro stations that can take you anywhere else in the city that you want to be

When to go

We went in early May and beat the main tourist rush, so that the queues to the Gaudi houses and Picasso Museum were not excessive. The temperature was mild and pleasant. Maybe not great for the beach, but we have better beaches in Australia, and not why we were there anyway.

Getting around

Airport train was convenient and cheap, and the Metro system is great. Puts you in easy walking distance of most attractions.

“Modern Haven”

The hotel was lovely, but small. The room fit two perfectly, but was a little overcrowded at times. The beds were our only issue. We had twin beds that rolled around aimlessly in the room at night if you toss and turn. Besides that though, everyone who worked there was courteous and had excellent english speaking capabilities. They were even able to send us to some fantastic dining places including: Paco Maralgo, Mancho's and Taller de Tapas. It was a fantastic experience.

Area recommendations

I would definitely recommend the Born district filled with it's little twists and turns. It has great shopping and fantastic people watching. Also, another great place is the Barceloneta beach where you can just lay out and catch some rays with a box of sangria. You do need to be extra careful that you watch over your things.

Dining

I highly suggest going to Paco Maralgo for tapas. Though crowded and slightly pricey, each dish is fresh and incredibly tasty. Another fantastic place for tapas would be Taller de Tapas. It's cheaper, tasty and amazing. For paella go to Moncho's by the beach, do not spend your money for paella at Barceloneta (the restaurant). It was salty and overcooked and just plain horrible. Not a good experience and a waste of money.

“A Good Stay in Barcelona”

The hotel was modern, well appointed, and clean. The rooms were not large but the bathrooms were. The beds were comfortable. The food in the dining room was excellent as were the service and the atmosphere. The location was in the City Center and close to public transportation, excellent shopping and city highlights, Las Ramblas. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful with directions, places to go and foreign exchange. The only complaint was the fitness facility which had outdated and with poorly maintained equipment. With this exception, we enjoyed our stay and would stay there again.

Sagrada Familia' - Antoni Gaudy's unfinished masterpiece 100+ years in the making and other architectural works of Gaudy sprinkled throughout the city. Las Ramblas - shopping, entertainment (esp. the street mimes), food (must try Cafe de L'Opera De Barcelora and get the chocolate caliente (hot chocolate - thick and delicious) w/ churros (donut) - dip churros in caliente - decadent.

Shopping

Must go to El Corte' Ingles, Spain's most famous department store in the centre of Barcelona (Plaza Catalanya). It even has a grocery store. Prices are more expensive than other places for the same items but it is a sight and an enjoyable experience for shopaholics.

“Great Hotel, Great Location”

Overall very good 4 stars hotel. Big room, large bathroom. Despite the busy street in front of the hotel you will not hear a sound because of the two double paned windows. Wi-Fi is perfectly working in the room. Excellent location. 3 min walk to Gaudi La Pedrera and the nearest stop of Hop-On Hop-Off bus which is a must in Barcelona. 7 min to Casa Batllo. Lots of restaurants around. Great bakery just across the street to have a nice non expensive breakfast. The prestigious Passeig de Gràcia which is the major avenue with the most important shopping and business areas in Barcelona is literally around the corner. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who doesn't want to live in unreasonably expensive, crowded and pretty seedy La Rambla area but want to be strategically located to all city attractions. The only minor inconvenience is a heavy metal key to your room that you need to leave at reception before you are going out. These days the majority hotels around the world have a convenient plastic card key. But again, it's not a big deal.

“Great Location, Not So Comfy Beds”

This Hotel is located perfectly, you are feet away from Rambla de Catalunya, a street aligned on each side with restaurants and shops. Very chic. It is also very safe. There is this one tapas restaurant called Cervezeria de Catalunya which has the best tapas around. Go early around 7pm if you can because after 8pm it's packed with locals. Other than being in a great location and having a "modern" decor, Gallery Hotel is not a 4 star by American standards. Beds are very hard (they all are), bathrooms are not cleaned well enough. we had mold and mildew in the shower. We had to ask for more tissues twice. How expensive are tissues in Spain? Instead of giving us a new box they were only giving us a handful at a time! Do not go to the buffet breakfast! It's $20/person and their toaster doesn't even work! Takes 20 min to toast 2 slices of bread. Don't waste your time and money. I recommend Gallery Hotel for the location and the front desk. Those people are the nicest and they will do anything for you. PS: Internet is very slow and we could not figure out those Spanish keyboards! Bring your laptop or I-Phones instead.

“not impressed at all”

I was not impressed at all, I couldn't imagine that a 4 stars hotel can have floors smealling like urine. We explained about findings but they couldn't elieve it. The staff was not friendly, we wanted to change the room but they gave us darker ones. About bathroom tube bath was durty and looking to change the room, we found out that the rest of bathrooms were durty too. I would NOT recommand this hotel

“Would definitely return”

Convenient location, adjacent to metro stations and close to Gaudi's La Pedrera. Lots of really good shops bars and restaurants. Very clean and modern hotel with polite helpful staff. One small problem with our air conditioning unit was quickly rectified. Would have been good to have tea/coffee making facilities, however complementary bottled water was left daily.We really enjoyed our stay.
