Hotel Balmes, Barcelona

Posted 11-Sep-2014
Pros: Value, location, staff, service, decor.
Cons: Put hot water pots in rooms so guests can make tea, coffee, etc should they wish. Other than that, nothing. The service was better than expected.
Location: ALready did. GREAT location!
This is a great hotel for its' price range. The location is excellent: right off the Passeig de Gracia in the L'Eixample, close to trams and subway and busses. This area of Barcelona is stately and quiet. Great shopping and 5 star restaurants are nearby, as is the Sagrada Familia, La Pedrera and Casa Battlo. The hotel offers a decent breakfast downstairs in its' Bauhaus inspired dining room. The rooms are basic but comfortable and the staff is responsive and friendly. The concierge is great; the dining room staff is outstanding. I would stay there again. Big perk: this hotel has a pool and a lovely courtyard. I thought I would use it more, but walking around Barcelona is intoxicating.

Enjoyed the quiet location yet very close to Passeig de Gracia and Rambla de Catalunya. Spacious room with comfortable bathroom, adjustable aircon, fridge and a safe. Varied breakfast buffet.

Excellent hotel, will surely recommend!

Posted 30-Aug-2014
Pros: Clean rooms, friendly and helpful staff, excellent location.
Cons: Nothing, everything was up to the expected standard.
Location: Close to the city center.
I had a lovely time at this hotel. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel rooms were cleaned intensively on a daily basis. The cleaner was always on our floor cleaning each time we went out in the morning. Supplies were replaced daily so we had more than enough. They made out stay an enjoyable one. Will surely recommend and use again. It was excellent value for money.

3 night break in Barcelona

Posted 24-Aug-2014
Pros: Very clean; our room was cleaned, beds made and toiletries restocked every day. Staff were friendly, but unobtrusive. The bar prices were very cheap!
Cons: It was all fine.
Location: Great location, not in the thick of it, but easy walking distance to the city centre and bus stops, metro etc. Loads of places to eat nearby.
My 14-year old son and I had a great 3 days in Barcelona; we sometimes worry that we'll get the 'single parent room' when we book a hotel anywhere, ie. overlooking the dustbins etc. But our room was lovely, with a balcony overlooking the street. We were out for most of the day, but our room was nice enough to chill out in when we needed to. Free Wi-Fi worked well. Thoroughly recommend both Barcelona, and the hotel for a great mini-break.

Dog friendly hotel, helpful staff

Posted 13-Jul-2014
Pros: Dog friendly, great location, secure parking, comfortable and clean
Cons: Plumbing needs major improvement
Location: Close to 2 Gaudi buildings, shopping and restaurants. Walking distance to Gaudi cathedral and gothic part of town. Port is 20 mins walking distance.
Good location, hotel provided dog sitting staff for ten euros per hour when we had a function to attend one evening. The room was clean with mini bar fridge but sub standard wall insulation for pipe works - you can hear toilets flushing and showering etc in rooms above as the pipes ran down through the interior of guest rooms and not on the outside corridor walls as would be normal practice. Also some toilet smells came into the guest rooms because of the poor insulation of soil pipes. A bonus is the parking which the hotel has 20 spaces. But there is also secure public car park directly opposite the hotel for same charge of twenty four euros per day. This is a good 3 star hotel and would be even better if they fix their plumbing!

Quiet, central location in Barcelona

Posted 10-Jul-2014
Pros: The front desk clerk was very cordial, patient and helpful.
We had two rooms for two days and one for a third day. It was our first time in the Barcelona. We focused our visits, as many do, on Gaudi buildings and the Gothic district. So the location was super! Even access to City Tour buses and the Metro system was simple. There was an ample supply of extremely nearby quality dining options. The hotel's bar was generally empty, presumably the person manning the front desk also is the bar tender. We ate breakfasts at the hotel. they were fine but offered little variety from one day to the next. Newspapers in that room and at the front desk were available but only in Spanish and, I suppose, Catalan. WIFI and TV service were suitable. The pool was welcome, but small and heavily used by families. The hotel's decor was stylish in a simple, modern manner with some African art donning public areas.
