“Great location on a quiet street close to everything”
This hotel is perfectly located in the Eixample neighborhood, easily within walking distance of Gracia and the Ramblas. It is just off the Diagonal where it is very quiet. There is an excellent resturant across the street named Antiqua which we found to better than nearly all the resturants in the City.
The staff was helpful and friendly, all speaking English perfectly. We enjoyed their daily breakfast in the hotel.
Our room (502), sadly, had not been redone as were most other rooms in the hotel. It was spartan and pretty uncomfortable, although clean. It did have a small kitchenette if one were wanting to cook for themselves. We felt the price was high for this exact room.
We would stay again, just not in this room. We would ask to see the room on checkin to insure it was updated.
Area recommendations
We spent 10 days in Barcelona and went to every neighborhood. This is one of the cleanest cities in Europe. We loved it!
By all means, tour the various buildings designed by Antoni Gaudi, particularly the Casa Milà on Passeig de Gràcia. Be sure to visit the attic to learn how he developed his designs. Once you've learned how he designed buildings, then tour the Sagrada Familia. Under construction since 1884, it is expected to be completed in 2040. It may be the most facinating church in Europe.
The waterfront neighborhood, Ciutat Vella, including La Barceloneta is absolutely worth your time. There are many great seafood resturants, our favorite having been Exlr.
The El Gòtic neighborhood is where it all began. The church is magnificent. There are many interesting streets with great little shops and resturants worth visiting here.
We purchased tickets for the City Touristic Bus tour at Plaça Catalunya. This allowed us to ride the buses throughout the City to see the various locations we wanted to go back to. Once we found great sites to visit we would return for indepth visits. The 70 Euros for two was worth it!
We also took three days to tour Costa Brava. We most enjoyed our visit to Cadaqes, the city where Dali lived and painted. It is a quaint city on the Med. very close to France. It took 2 hours to drive there and the roads were terrific. We stayed at the Hotel Blaumer and highly recommend it.
