“Not impressed”
Rooms were old, with rust and dirt in bathroom. Kitchenette was out-dated. Overall appearance was not appealing.
“perfect for what i needed!”
i was staying 4 nights in barbados, on route to st lucia, and needed somewhere close to bank, shops, etc - palms resort was just the thing. staff really friendly & helpful.
“location not clear”
although we called two days before our arrival, at the check in (10:30pm) there was only a security guard totally not expert to wait for us. The taxi from the airport did not locate well the hotel and finally found it. We put all our baggages out of the taxi (four heavy suitcases) and the taxi went away. Only at that moment the guard said to us that the hotel has another dependance and we had to go there calling another taxi!!! I was upset and the guard called a taxi that arrived only after twenty minutes and drop us to the dependance without charging. A part this inconvenience due to the unprofessional organization, the apartments/rooms are not bad but I would suggest it only to young tourists.
“BARBADOS' BEST VALUE FOR MONEY ACCOMODATION”
The Palms is 2.5 star, very cheap and excellent value for money. Barbados is a beautiful island with many beaches to visit, lots to explore and numerous good dining options. There is an excellent bus service along the west coast and in my opinion an expensive, all inclusive resort is a waste and not necessary. The Palms grounds are neat & tidy, with a small swimming pool. The rooms are cleaned daily and adequate. Our only gripe was that the water pressure in the shower was very poor but hey we made do. Considering the price we paid The Palms is excellent value for money. The Palms is reasonably well positioned. We stayed at the Halycon Palms site which is a 10 minute walk from the main part of Holetown and beach, where there is a supermarket, shops and many dining options. This site is closer to town than the Travellers Palm site. We spent very little time on site preferring to go out for breakfast (Bean&Bagel, Carizma Cafe, Indigo Cafe and Surfside) and stay at the beach in Holetown or catch a bus to Mullins, Paynes, Sandy Lane or Miami beaches. We would return to our room purely to shower, change and go out for dinner (Zaccios, Rugamuffins, Angry Annies, The Beach House, Surfside, Just Grillin, Spago and the Oistins Fish Fry) Bean and Bagel was our pick of the breakfast options and Zaccios our pick for dinner. The Oistins Fish Fry is an absolute must, fresh fish charcoal grilled and the best value for money. The Palms resort is well located for all of these places.
“No hot water”
In Barbados they have a lot of solar hot water heaters. 5 minutes after check in, I discovered that we didn't have hot water. I called hotel desk and reported the problem. Unfortunately, the receptionist didn't do anything except saying "how can I make your stay more comfortable". I requested a new room, and of course she didn't arrange that. We ended up spending 2 days without hot water while repairmen were banging on our roof. After 2 days, manager finally moved us to the different room which was a little better. He was very nice thought and didn't charge for the 2 lousy days. Overall, weather and sea were great, Barbados was nice and the hotel was good for the money.
“A pleasant average resort with high quality of service.”
Our exprience with Westjet was 'topnotch' as always! We have learned from experience to arrange our own taxi service in Barbados. It is much less costly than prearranged shuttles. The Halcyon Palms Resort is a short walk to several good beaches and plenty of shopping and restaurants. The units in the resort are spacious and well appointed except for the inferior television cable service. Otherwise we would definitely stay here again. The staff was more than helpful and everything here is kept to a very high standard.
“Excellent Budget accommodation in a great lcoation”
We enjoyed our 7 days at the palms resort, its positioned in a quiet lcoation of St James and only 10 mins walk to all amenities, beaches etc. Staff were very helpful and the rooms were cleaned on a daily basis. We were contacted half way throughthe holiday to see if everythignwas to our satisfaction and the only issue I highlighted was the low water pressure in the shwoer and luke warm water. Also, the pool is located in the middle of the complex and the noise of th children in the pool and people with their doors open listening to TV can make it a little noisy at certain times of the day. Saying that for budget type accomm like this I would defintiely go back again and would recommend to others. We stayed at the resort on mayhoe avenue where there is a pool but no restaurant facilities, which didnt cause us any problems at all, in fact it was a little closer to St James which was useful for walking back in the evening.
“hotel nice, but overpriced internet which you don't find out until you arrive!!!”
the pool wasn't working, because the pool man took a day off and nobody had put the chemicals in the pool on his day off, so the pool had to be closed for several days. temperature was high 80's I think. but much worse was the overpriced charge for internet service (with my computer, not theirs). expedia description said wi-fi is "available", and I understand that that translates as "extra charge", in hotel language, but I was informed that the charge for wifi usage would be TEN DOLLARS US$ CURRENCY PER HOUR!!!!!. This was a truly exorbitant charge, but especially for me, because this was a very last-minute trip for me, and I needed to make lots of arrangements for my 2-week trip on-the-fly there at the hotel. Eventually they produced a "special offer" which would give me 2 hours of internet for 8 dollars US total ($4 US$ per hour) but the initial shock of highway robbery never fully wore off. They explained that "internet costs more in barbados than in USA" but the fact is that for the same $4 US that I ended up paying per hour, you can go down the street to the Italian Cafe next to shopping center and use the internet for an hour for free, if you buy a Cappucino or something, and that costs a little less than $4. So given this, I feel a REASONABLE CHARGE of maybe $3 or $4 US for a FULL DAY of usage would be fair, and would not anger the guests. Oh, BTW, The internet they sold me was supposed to work in my room, but I could only get a signal in to work in lobby. Dec 2010
“Get what you pay for”
You can't expect to pay the lowest price and stay in a 5 star hotel. Overall, the Palms Resort was nice. The room was clean (though it could use an update), we never saw any bugs or anything like that. My only gripe would be the water in our bathroom. We had very low water pressure and the hot water wasn't really hot. If you're looking for a cheap place to stay and realize it's not going to be The Ritz, this is a good option.
“Good value for money in a quiet location”
I have stayed at The Palms once before and knew what to expect, a spacious, airy room with everything I need for a quiet self catering holiday. The staff were helpful and friendly as usual and the quiet location makes for a peaceful stay. There was a youth cricket team staying for most of the time so there was some noise at times and the pool was a bit hectic but it was quiet by the evenings which was the most important thing for me. If I were to make one suggestion it is that the cable television stations could be better, the signal goes at times so can be frustrating when you get to an interesting bit of the film and it keeps retuning, plus there are only 3 channels - but I didn't go to watch tv so it's a small thing. I needed to stay extra nights due to an accident and the hotel staff were very obliging regarding this too.
