We got an amazing last minute deal and had the experience of our lifes... Ask for the view to the river on a high level floor. Outstanding location! If this one is to expensive go to Shangri la in front!

Vintage Peninsula

Posted 11-May-2014
Pros: Feeling pampered.
Cons: Buffet foods and presentation. Service in the restaurant offering the buffets.
Location: As much in the center of things as any hotel in Bangkok.
A four day stay in Bangkok was made even more pleasant by the Peninsula. Great room with lots of comforts that were well appreciated after 2 weeks traveling in Myanmar. The buffet food was a disappointment (both breakfast and dinner), but ordering a la carte obtained much better results. Wait service in the River Cafe was a bit slow on the 3 or 4 times we ate there. The shuttle boat service allowed excellent access to both sides of the river and ferry service bypassing the horrendous traffic jams in Bangkok. The Spa was above average offering excellent services. Room service was excellent.

Great hotel on the river

Posted 21-Apr-2014
Pros: We enjoyed everything about this hotel.
Cons: I have to say pretty much everything about this hotel was spot on for our trip.
Location: The location on the river was perfect.
We had an excellent stay at The Peninsula. We were upgraded to a suite which was extremely spacious and comfortable. The room was perfectly clean and the friendliness and efficiency of the staff was exceptional. It was a great location on the river with the hotel offering a prompt water ferry to different locations - this in itself was a highlight. The food at the Thai restaurant on the water was delicious and the breakfast was also great. I'd definitely recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay in Bangkok.

Complacent with brand, average service & location

Posted 07-Feb-2014 on Hotels.com
Room and pool were very nice as you would expect from a hotel of this caliber. However, quite dated and rooms need a facelift. The location is not great as miles from the centre and on the wrong side of the river. The surrounding location is not too desirable, so the only places to easily frequent are other hotels such as Mandarin Oriental (where I will choose next time) and Shangri-La. Conceirge staff were not very polite and anything you ordered to the room took an eternity. However most of the staff were good, although several struggle to communicate in English. Basic things could be improved, such as having tea in the room - when you request it you get budget brands that you would expect in a budget hotel, then they try to charge you for the pleasure. This review seems negative and it certainly wasn't overall a negative experiences but hotels in this price range you expect a premium service and it falls a long way behind the competitors. Easily fixable with the exception of the location. I did email the hotel and they thanked me for telling them the parts the exceeded my expectations?? (not sure what that was) and said if I book another room next time, they will upgrade me. They also told me they had not charged me for something from the minibar on my first of three nights and if I didn't pay within 48 hours they impose fines - very pleasant.
