“Park Plaza in the perfect location for a great night out.”

I stayed in the Park Plaza for a few days and it was fantastic. It's a relatively new hotel and was extremely neat and tidy. The rooms are a very comfortable style, the decor is contemporary and pleasing and the facilities are fantastic. The staff are also very helpful and polite. It offers great value for money and the location is exceptional if you want to soak up all the fruits that the nightlife in Bangkok can offer. It's an easy 20-30 minute cab ride from the tourist sites. I'll definitely stay there again.

“Loved it! Great hotel for a great price.”

I thought this hotel provided incredible value and the staff were wonderful. I arrived early in the morning and was allowed to check in, which I was so happy about after flying through the night. The room was certainly better than I expected for the price with everything I needed and I found the free wifi useful. The rooftop pool was lovely and I really enjoyed the complimentary snacks and juice on the 1st floor when I arrived back each day. The skytrain and MTR are a few minutes walk away, which is useful for getting around Bangkok. It's worth visiting the Terminal 21 shopping mall by the skytrain station - for the impressive toilets!

“Quality Hotel with Great Staff”

Nice hotel and really clean with lovely helpful staff, nothing was too much trouble for them. Would definately use again. Restaurant food was good but wine a bit expensive. Hotel very handy to BTS Asok station and Sukhomvit.

Area recommendations

The Grand Palace. Temple of the Golden Buddha. MBK Shopping Centre. Street stalls along Sukhomvit.

Getting around

Watch out for taxi drivers ripping you off, overcharging is rife particularly the taxi desks in the airport and taxis that hang around touting for business. Go to the official taxi rank outside the airport entrance to get a fair rate to your hotel. If you need a taxi in Bangkok you are more likely to get a fair rate if you flag one down that has it's for hire light on or get the Park Plaza staff to get one for you (they got a taxi to the airport for me that was really cheap and included all tolls). Watch out for motor bikes riding on the pavements to avoid traffic jams and look where you are walking as the pavements are in a really bad state with bad potholes and loose paving bricks. Take great care on road crossings as drivers do not stop even when the green man says you can cross.

“Great choice of hotel”

This was a first time visit to Thailand and as a sole traveller I couldn't have picked a better hotel to arrive at. The staff are very warm and friendly. I arrived left my bags and went to the dentist. When checking in I could barely speak and they were so respectful and checked me in straight away. The bed is very comfortable - pretty unbeatable. I did have the bathroom flood but they were prepared to sort it straight away even though it was a bit late. The only downside is with the one way streets a couple of taxis had no idea how to get there, even with directions in Thai, so tell taxis its near the Exchange Tower, or Sheraton Grande. But the concierge was extremely helpful in ensuring taxis were going to the rightplace. It is very handy to the BTS Asoke Skytrain. There didn't seem to be restaurants too nearby but was walking distance to dentists on Sukhumvit 21. I returned to the hotel after Koh Samui to return to the dentist and felt like I was a long lost friend by hotel staff (they are genuinely pleased to see you). I had the feeling if I'd had any problem they would do their utmost to help, which is nice when travelling alone. The chefs at CO2 were delightful and catered to my allergy - I felt confident I wasnt going to be let down - one of the advantages of not being such a massive hotel where you get lost among the hundreds. I would definitely return to this hotel for future trips and consider it extremely good value.

Getting around

Definitely take maps/directions in Thai. The comments about the airport queues for taxis arent justified - I had no wait and the taxi drivers knew exactly how to get to the hotel. Travelling to/from the airport I selected flight times to avoid the peak traffic - in Bangkok - weekend, early morning and late night is not too bad.

“You wont find better in it's class”

Everytime I stay in Bangkok, I stay here. For the price I defy anyone to find a better hotel. Just beware,the food is seriously expensive but very convenient just in case you are peckish after a night out as the restuarant is open 24 hours. I can't fault this Hotel.

“Good Hotel and Great Location”

As other reviewers have noted, the hotel is well maintained and the hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. We booked a superior room at a corner location with a city view. Though the room was smaller that we envisioned, it was very comfortable, clean, well maintained and the bathroom was top notch. From the main window, we had a nice view of the main intersection (Sukhumvit line) and we had no issues with traffic noise. My only gripe with the room was it was hard to set the air conditioner to a comfortable setting. It seemed the fan was alwasy blowing on us in bed even after I shifted the vents away from us. The location was excellent, walking distrance to the Asok sky train station and the MRT station. There are plenty of shops and restaurants in the neighborhood. It was very easy and safe to explore the surrounding neighborhood as it is an area geared towards expats and tourists. There is also a convenient money changer located near the main intersection and they are open until 11 PM. The only major complaint I have is that we made a collect call to our credit card company to verify some charges we made earlier that day. When we checked out we were charged for that phone call even though it was a collect call. The front desk staff insisted that it was not a collect call. The amount was not significant but they really need to do a better job with their phone system.

This area is good for first time visitors to Bangkok because it is geared towards tourists and expats. In addition, the multiple transportation options in this area makes it ideal.

Cab rides to the airport: It is supposed to be a metered ride to the airport and should not cost mroe than 500 Baht including tolls. Our cabbie tried to charge us a flat rate of 650 Baht and I ahd to negotiate with him. No big deal but make sure you get it straight before leaving the hotel so you can take another cab if needed. If uncomfotable with negotiating then ask the hotel staff ot speak to the cab driver for you.
