As a frequent traveler I am often not particularly overwhelmed by hotels around the world, so it was nice to stay in the National, a particularly beautiful old hotel located facing the Kremlin and Red Square. I was impressed enough that we changed flights and stayed an extra day so that we could take our time in Moscow. The staff were very helpful, all spoke English and were very professional and accommodating. I had a business meeting in the lounge with clients and it was certainly a good setting for that type of thing. Built in 1903 its a really nice change to find a hotel that's not competing to be the "most ultra-modern" hotel and if you like history, wander around the 2nd floor and you'll see a gallery of the famous people who've stayed there over the past 100 years. Quite impressive. Moscow is not an easy place to drive around (just take a taxi, the traffic is among the most challenging anyplace in the world) so staying close to your place of interest is a big plus and you would be hard pressed to find a better central location than Red Square. Public transport literally outside your doorstep if you're game to take the metro also.
Exceptional service, beautiful rooms and superb location. The hotel arranged a private guide for us who was first rate. We asked for a private car to meet us at the airport which was there on time. They secured us fantastic seats to the Bolshoi which is adjacent to the hotel.

Really helpful, hospitable staff. exceptionally clean hotel. Supermarkets close and room service available which is a little pricy but excellent quality.
English speaking staff who will go out of their way to help. They arrange reasonably priced taxis from the airport which due to safety issues recommended.

An excellent stay for young spirited travelers, who are not too consumed by the usual hotel amenities. Simple, artsy, clean, just what you need, in a perfect location, and for a great price!
Minutes walk to Bolshoi Theater, Red Square, cafes, and restaurants. We barely had to use the metro to get around, but when we did - there are plenty of stations around the hotel.
The restaurant - bar on premise has great atmosphere and food.
Many reviews mentioned noise coming from the bar - we heard nothing, and had a great stay.
Laid back & artsy are key words.
In an Artsy neighborhood, 20 minute walk to Kremlin or Arbat. Open lobby plan and very comfortable rooms. Staff available 24/7 and extremely helpful. Lots of eclectic area restaurants/bars and close to metro stations.
