“3 star according to american standards”
The hotel is decent and situated in a nice location with many conveniences. The airport one bus stop away, ice cream parlor, and swizzle inn just down the block. Also a variety store just around the block to save on expensive food cost. Bus stop is right outside of the hotel but that is the case for all the hotels in BDA. The hotel is not the best maintained. I saw eating utensils lying around the property for days. One night i had two caca roachas roaming our room floor an that ruined the remaining nights for me. Internet is not free, there are no life guards on duty. Jicuzzi is small. Stayed for six nights
“Outstanding Staff and Grounds!”
Loved Bermuda! First visit and plan to return someday soon. Grotto Bay Resort was wonderful. The staff could not have been more friendly! We opted for the all-inclusive and was sooooo glad we did! The food was great, some dishes better than others but overall good food. Would highly recommend the all-inclusive and Grotto Bay. Only negative was the roasters. We will stay there again when we return.
“Nice Stay - A few things not quite right”
Very friendly and helpful staff. Convenient to airport, St. George, and not difficult to get to Hamilton and points south. Sat at bar waiting for table, had one round of drinks and requested menu for appetizer. Bartender wouldn't make eye contact, so no refills and no appetizer. We walked away since we also couldn't get the bar bill. Thanks for the free drinks. Food was mediocre. Better to eat elsewhere, including the Swizzle Inn up the road. Would still stay there again for the other good things, convenience, and price.
“Excellent service!”
The grotto was outstanding.
“Very Bad Internet Connections”
It is NOT acceptable that the internet does not work in the roomc
“I've stayed here annually for the last 12 years”
“stayed here annually for the last 12 years” I have stayed at this resort every year for the last 12 years. I am very happy with the accomodations. I always feel safe & secure here. Very nice water views from most rooms. Resort has its own private beach, stalagmite cave and restaurants. Bus transportation to anywhere on the island is only a 2 minute walk from the main lobby. For the price, Grotto bay is one of the best values in Bermuda. If you get tired of resort restaurant , you can walk to the Swizzle inn (5 minutes away) or find the less known Cafe Ole (10 minutes away) on the premises of Crystal Caves. At Cafe Ole you can get their "fantasy breakfast" with eggs, meat, potatoes, toast coffe for $12 where the Grotto bay breakfast buffet is about $23. They also serve burgers, fish sandwichs in a very informal setting. Resort is about 35 minutes away from Hamilton by bus.
“Caves!”
The hotel was quite beautiful with well maintained grounds across Bailey's Bay from the airport. The really fun part was a cave where you could swim! also close by was a park (Blue Hole Park) with lots of caves and walking paths. Crystal Caves was a short walk away. And there was a bus stop at the front gate to go to either Hamilton or St. George's. Nearby was a fantastic ice cream parlor. The restaurants were also quite good and complimentary afternoon tea! We really enjoyed our stay.
“Nice hotel for a reasonable price”
Nice hotel for a reasonable price. A bonus: Caves on the property with stalagmites and stalactites and a little underground lake you can swim in.
“Just okay”
First impressions are that this hotel is very pretty however, the lack of customer service was dissappointing. The pool & beach area are nice but the bartenders are unfriendly, several even had headphones on while behind the bar. There is no beach service so if you are hoping for a frozen drink while lounging, be prepared to go get it yourself. There are only two dining rooms on property so if you do the all inclusive, it could get repetitive. We arrived at 3:00 in the afternoon after a long travel day and were really hungry. Sadly, there is no food available at this time of day. All we at was breakfast at the hotel and it was very expensive. As far as the rooms go, they were comfortable but we were not given lotion or conditioner and had to ask several times for an extra bar of soap & toilet paper. I might be expecting things to be more like an "American" hotel but this is a highly rated hotel so I thought it would provide lotion and conditioner. They charge you per day for wifi and we had to sit in the lobby to access it. The location is tough because it is close to the town of St George, but that town has pretty much closed down so if you want nightlife, or even dinner options, you have to go to the city of Hamilton and that is a pretty long cab ride. We ate at the Swizzle Inn 3 times in our 5 days because it was so close. We also loved dinner at Tom Moore's tavern but it was expensive. I hope to return to Bermuda some day but I would not stay at Grotto Bay again.
“Nice place”
The only thing I can say that is "bad" about this hotel is location. It's near the airport and not in the middle of anything exciting. However, everything is a bus or scooter ride away! This is the third time we've been to Bermuda and the second time we've been to this hotel. Really great staff, rooms are comfy, and they have the best little snorkeling hidey hole ever! Food was very good too. I wouldn't go the all inclusive route unless you plan on taking all your meals there - it's just not worth it. We'll be back!
