This was my third stay at the Phonecia and was as just as enjoyable as during previous visits over several years. The hotel's location is of particular value with easy close access to Valetta and the main bus terminal for Malta. Many of the important tourist attractions are easily reached on foot.
The food in both restaurants and the bar snacks were all well up to standard and the helpfulness of all staff especially noteworthy. My room was very comfortable and the room service without fault. The wonderful view of the harbour from the room helped to make the holiday highly memorable.
I had read a few reviews before going to the hotel and was a little worried but I didn't need to be, every member of staff we came in contact with was helpful, efficient and friendly. The room was great - quiet and spacious, the restaurants comfortable and inviting and the pools (both indoor and out) were lovely. We ate in the hotel most nights (having had long days out) and the food and service was brilliant and the variety and quality of food at breakfast was amazing. We will definitely be going back!
Valletta is a short walk from the hotel but does involve going up a lot of steps. A lot of the streets are quite steep so anyone who has more difficulty getting about should bear this in mind - I would say it's worth it though.
The first thing I need to say is that Malta, on the whole, it's a bit like marmite and the same can be said about the Casa Cornellia. If you like complaining then you 'could' have a field day, however, if you are ready to absorb a different climate, culture and way of life then read on...............The Casa Cornellia is unique, the rooms are nicely furnished, with plenty of room and comfortable beds, the bathrooms are shared per floor, but clean and functional. The roof terrace is lovely and we used the kitchen a couple of times and had evening meals out there, absorbing the the noise of the town and the night. The owners are freindly and pleasant to talk to and the place feels more like a home than a bed and breakfast. Speaking of which, if you're a late riser buy you own and put it in the fridge with your name on it as other guests may be up early and the 'self service kitchen' may be empty.
Yes, the place could perhaps do with a lick of paint and a couple of improvements in the breaksfast department but on the whole we enjoyed our stay and it was a perfect location to make a base to explore the island. The price was very reasonable and even though we made our own bed and tidied our room, all you had to do was ask and the maid would have changed towels/beds etc. We were just quite happy to make ourselves at home.
Thank you, we had a lovely time.
Hotel is very close to all the amenities. Lovely view of Valletta or view of sea. Buses are inexpensive and the one ticket which costs 1.50 euro per person can be used all day on all buses. You can travel by ferry to Valletta also which takes ten mins. Hotel also has wonderful Spa and Thalassotherapy pool.

We stayed at the end of October for a week and were so impressed by both the friendliness of the staff and the lovely spacious apartment. On our arrival Roxana at reception was really helpful and took time with us to answer our questions. Later when I went down to the restaurant to ask where the nearest shop was to buy some milk Rita the waitress said they were closed but said don’t worry I will give you some. Over the course of the week we got to know Joe, Johnny and Tony who along with Rita made eating in the restaurant such an enjoyable experience and they felt like friends. The breakfast is very good and is self-service, catering for continental as well as hot breakfasts. The hot breakfast consists of sausages, bacon, scrambled egg, baked beans and hot tomatoes, a better selection than in some Hotels we have stayed in abroad, you can also have as many teas or coffees as you like. We had intended to eat out after the first night but enjoyed the meal so much that we ate there every night. They have a good selection of pizza’s, pasta’s and meat dishes with prices comparable if not cheaper than the local restaurants. With the fridge, microwave etc. you can eat in if you wish and the fridge being in the main room you don’t hear it. The only down side for us was that with tiled floors you could hear dining chairs scraping on the floors above as people moved them. This wouldn’t bother people who got up early around 6-30 but may if like us you prefer another hour of sleep. A plea
This is a simple but comfortable and relatively quiet hotel. We had a balcony overlooking the port with the same great view as the open air rooftop breakfast dining area. The breakfast was simple but good. The owner, Aldo, was extremely nice and helpful. This is not a luxury hotel but an extremely nice simple hotel. There was a good street side restaurant down the block and there and buses into Valetta. It is also a short drive to Valetta if you have a good GPS and the courage to drive on the left side of the road on narrow, winding, hilly streets with lots of roundabouts and traffic.
