Tricked by photographs

Posted 22-Mar-2014
Photographs online were very deceiving. Was rated as a 5-star hotel but the quality of the hotel from the room quality to the elevator size to the overpriced breakfast, this hotel should be considered a 3-star. Checked the lobby out the night before booking and thought it's aesthetic would run throughout the hotel, big surprise. Horribly hard bed, pillows either way too thin or obscenely fat, tiles in bathroom moldy and cracked, room was just ugly. Did not reflect the beauty of the country. Would never return, place was just average.

5 Night stay in March

Posted 12-Mar-2014
Pros: The staff
Cons: Better beds
Location: Good location, very central, but very hilly.
The staff were very helpful. The room was adequate, but very small and the beds were very uncomfortable. They definitely made it look a lot better on their website.

Only Possible Plus: View of Acropolis

Posted 05-Mar-2014
Pros: Stated above
Cons: Needs to be remodeled. Or prices significantly reduced (30% or so)
Location: Good location.
The Hotel is worn out and way past its prime. This goes from the rooms themselves including their embedded cigarette odor to the disheaveled look of their entrance and reception staff. The Hotel only deserves to be a three star at most. It does have some positives: 1) located in a very good neighborhood with easy walking access to the Acropolis and Parka, 2) some rooms have a great view of the Acropolis, 3) breakfast is reasonably good, and 4) both restaurant and cleaning staff are very attentive. However, the price per night of US$140 thru Expedia is totally not merited. Especially given the season, what the hotel has to offer and the competition in Athens.

Value for money 5* in Kolonaki, Athens

Posted 04-Jan-2014
This is a 5 star boutique hotel, in a great location, in Kolonaki, Athens, which is very close to lots of restaurants, bars and nightlife. We found a very good deal /discount on a superior double room which made it very good value for money! Having said that, what you pay is what you get! While it is of good standards, it is arguably in need of some refurbishment (to deserve the 5 stars). Also some minor aspects of room comfort were clearly missing for cost-cutting reasons, e.g. squeeky doors (in need of maintenance), bathtub glass in need of re-adjustment, did not provide slippers for shower (which is pretty standard in 5* hotels), nor tissues and WiFi was not free. While noteworthy these are still minor aspects which had no material impact on our stay. Overall we'd definitely go again as the rooms are spacious and clean, the staff are extremely helpful, and the price for that location is too good to pass!

hotel with fantastic position and view of Acropoli

Posted 11-Nov-2013
Pros: The position and view and the fact that the open air roof top swimming pool was still open, though it wsa early November.
Cons: Mini bar provision - items were missing from what was listed. Similarly, basic bathroom items had to be asked for specifically.
Location: Central. Great views. Shops, Benaki museum, Cycladic art museum, Lycabettus hill with little church on top, open air cafe of "Dexameni". Street market
The position of the hotel on a hill in the centre of Athens with everything within walking distance is great and the room to go for is one with the unique Acropolis view. We chose to "upgrade" to that and it was worth it.

Not bad location

Posted 20-Oct-2013
Wen I arrived I was supposed to take a superior room with a view, instead they gave me a teerible old room that smelled awful out of not being opened for a while, when I asked to change it they weren't so friendly, I changed it to a better renovated room but yet too small and a blacony with a view of nothing

Glitzy hotel in pretty part of Athens

Posted 30-Sep-2013
Pros: Location. Staff.
Cons: Internet access. Lighting. Choice of breakfast
The hotel was smart, in a lovely residential area, away from the tourist crowds. Downside was the need for taxis or public transport to access historic sites. Bed was brilliant but room was large, but dark by day and underlit at night and seriously lacked storage (drawers etc). Bathroom good, but badly lit. Worst aspects: high charge for use of wi-fi, free wi-fi in public areas only and then VERY slow. Not good enough in this type of hotel and in the 21st century. Also, cost of breakfast - 22 euros pp - with the spectacular view, but with no cheaper option in a non-view coffee shop. Best aspects: charming, helpful and humerous staff in the lobby and at reception.

Great swimming pool, overpriced extras

Posted 18-Sep-2013
Pros: Swimming pool and view from roof
Cons: Give decent free wifi- it costs you nothing and makes people happy!
Location: It is a good walk to the sites so not for the unfit
Good- amazing view of the Acroplis from the top (though our room faced a wall), top includes a nice roof swimming pool. Fine on all the basics like cleanliness and shower. They gave us a very nice child's bed for our 3 yr old. Let down by crazy overpricing on extras- eg wifi in room extortionate and free lobby wifi v poor; a beer in bar 9 euros when same one 2 up the road, 22 euros for breakfast when there's a very nice breakfast bar 200m down the hill. So- stay, but beware the extras
