Had not stayed at a Hilton hotel in years (in US) and was pleasantly surprised! Hilton Athens was better than expected! We got a nice modern fairly recently renovated room. The staff was very helpful and housekeeping responded immediately to all of our requests. I would definitely consider Hilton again for my international travel!
We stayed in a room with a bedroom, a living area with sofa and study desk and chairs and a bathroom with cubicle shower. A clean well maintained room. breakfast was great with plenty of food and plenty of choice. The swimming pool and pool area were great, clean with waiter service. A lifeguard was on duty all day. A great hotel with friendly staff and many amenities. Public transport into Athens 5 minutes walk from hotel, bus to the airport outside the hotel and a 5 minute walk to the beach.
We were delighted with this hotel that is on a rough and rocky shore. We wanted a hotel on the sea on a one night stopover and this hotel was perfect. Lovely pool and gardens. Food is good and plentiful.
Rubber water shoes recommended to protect from the rocks and sea urchins if you want to swim in the sea and many people do.
Downside - distance from international airport. We got ripped off by the taxi driver from the airport who charged 53 Euros by the meter. The cab on the way back cost 35 Euro flat rate.
We stayed at the Athenaeum from September 13th to the 18th. Beautiful large bedrooms and bathrooms. Beautiful pool area. The hotel is a little out of the way, with no where to eat withing walking distance. However, there is a free shuttle about ever 30 minutes that takes you to the Parliament Buildings, where you can catch metro, tour buses, city buses to take you anywhere. The concierge was very helpful in recommending restaurants in the withing a 7 euro taxi ride. The view from the Premiere restaurant is spectacular, although the meal is a bit pricey. During the summer, you can only eat outside. The night we were there was pretty windy and cool, however they did bring me a nice blanket/shawl to whear which kept me quite comfortable.
We used the hotel for one night on arrival in Athens and before beginning an island hopping holiday in the Cyclades.
The only drawback was a wedding reception (with a band) on the hotel next door which went on until dawn!
If you get the right room you get a glorious view of the habour and can enjoy a drink while watching the sun set. The room was well furnished and even came with a very decent stereo (so take your CDs).
Breakfast was very good and set us up for our days visiting the historical sites in Athens, which can be reached by a short bus and train journey (between 45minutes- 1 hour journey time depending on connections).
