“Excellent!”
This hotel was a delight. A competent and friendly staff, a hot breakfast every morning and plenty of hot water for showering, which is sometimes rare in Greece. The room was Spartan but served us well.
“Extremely Convenient Location”
This is my second stay at the Hermes, and I would certainly stay there again. The hotel is very clean and quiet and is close to all of the major sites. There are several very good restaurants within walking distance and it is less than a five minute walk to Syntagma Square and ten minutes to the Agora, Roman Forum, or Acropolis. Having stayed at many hotels in Athens and Greece as a whole, I return to the Hermes because of the modern conveniences such as the modern and relatively large (compared to manyGreek hotels) bathrooms, wireless internet throughout the building (with a small fee), and heating/air-conditioning that works much better than most hotels where I've stayed. My one issue is that many members of the staff could have been more helpful. After traveling to Athens and arriving after 5PM I had to wait for 40 minutes for my room to be ready. I also needed to add two additional nights to my stay and the staff required me to recheck-in at 7AM after my initial stay ran out. The reason why this seemed a bit strange to me is that I already had booked the additional nights weeks in advance. I was hoping that the staff could accomodate me since I had to catch a 7:30 bus and I was trying to avoid any early moring tie-ups. In the end, this was only a minor inconvenience, but when I asked if I could just combine the two reservations and roll any charges over, the staff acted as if I had asked them to resurrect the dead.
“nice hotel for the price”
the hotel was very nice in a great location...walking distance to everything.however, the room was a little bit small. there was just a queen bed. Not even a chair or a table. If the hotel had those 2 things in would have been great
“There is nothing wrong with it but would not go back.”
I would not recommend this hotel to a friend. There is nothing extremely wrong with it, but there is nothing great either. The rooms are small, the bathrooms are extremely small, but if you are going to visit Athens, you will not spend a lot of time in the room anyway. The neighborhood looked dangerous at first, but then I realized that most of downtown looks the same. The staff is helpful and you will be very close to the Plaka, the Acropolis, Syntagma Square and major touristic places, but there are many hotels in the zone. So I would probably try another one.
“Clean, comfortable, friendly!”
Great hotel! Less than 10 minutes to beautiful black sand beach, restaurants, tour operators, etc. Located on a quiet street with parking lot, breakfast included. Charming hotel painted white and blue. Smelled nice, very clean. Had everything we needed for a relaxing stay.
“A little gem!”
The Hermes Hotel was situated in a backstreet not far from Syntagma Square. First thoughts were that the street looked a bit dingy but once in the hotel we were pleasantly surprised. We were given a warm welcome, our room was clean and functional and our breakfast each morning was good. However the best thing about the hotel was that it provided very easy access to all of the areas we wanted to visit eg Acropolis, Plaka, Hadrians Gate, temple of Zeus. We would definately use this hotel again
“Great base for exploring”
Very clean hotel. Staff were very helpful and the location was close to all the sightseeing areas of Athens. Highly recommend this place as a 2-3 day stay.
“Plaka location, reasonable price...”
We were very happy with the Hermes Hotel. It was centrally located in the Plaka, near all the sights we wanted to walk to. A great little local restaurant with an outstandingly friendly owner was just steps from our door. The rooms are small, but the price was right & location ideal.
“Good location, but not impressed with service”
On the positive side, this Hotel is in a great location close to the Acropolis, Syntagma Square and the main shopping street. The room and sheets were very clean. the bathroom is really nice and modern. Internet available for a small fee in the lobby. On the negative side, I only picked this hotel because i was under the impression that they have balconies overlooking the Acropolis, unfortunately none of the rooms have this view. They have a rooftop which i was hoping they have a view of the Acropolis, but no luck either, it was locked and unkept. The elevator get stuck if someone from one of the floors left it open and be prepared to take the stairs. One of the light was busted in our bathroom and they didn' fix it. The daytime concierge didn't sound friendly when i asked about the unfixed bathroom light and they told me not to use the second elevator even if the other one is stuck in one floor. I have to literally take a picture of the busted light in order to show him and believe me that it wasn't fixed like their maintenance guy has reported. And i don't know if this is common in Athens, but we found one roach in the basement bathroom. It sounds aweful to say, but it's true, sorry. Another good tip: There's a noodle house a block a way which only cost about 10 Euros/person and well prepared meal.
“Nice Location”
Nice location, close to most site. Athens is easy to walk around. Staff seems a bit "pre-occupied" with others things, overall ok service.
