“Will definitely stay again”

I have been visiting Athens for many years, and believe it or not, this is only the second time I've stayed in a hotel. The Divani Caravel was an absolute gem. Everything was perfect. The staff was absolutely wonderful.

“Exceptional Staff and Better Location than the City Center”

Stayed at the Caravel for two days while on a business trip. They have an exceptionally well trained and friendly staff. The location is just out of the city center which is desirable given all the strikes and protests. Rooms are nice and very well maintained as they clean them every time you leave. Overall an excellent stay.

“Hotel, Room, Shower=VG-Food and Coffee=Too Expensive!”

I selected this hotel as it was the Expedia's best choice and it was the cheapest listed when I booked it. The hotel is very nice and clean. On arrival, the person checking us in did not tell us about the shuttle bus to the Plaka area which is where we took a taxi each day. The hotel charged us 3 Euros extra each time we took a taxi. The lunch the first day was expensive and the tomatoes were not ripe in a Greek Salad! The waiter, however, was very nice. The cost of a buffet breakfast was 29 Euros!! The cost of one coffee was 7 Euros! In most other places a coffee was 1 Euro which we had to take a taxi to get to. The hotel recommended a night bus trip for 62 Euros each, that took us to possibly the worst restaurant in Athens. It was a tourist rip off! The pool on the roof was too cold to swim in and it was 30 to 37 degrees in the city. The room was very nice and the shower was the best part. People should be told how expensive the food is and that they have to travel to get better and less expensive food and drink. Every time we asked a question at the front desk, before they would reply, they wanted our room number. My impression was that because we got a reduced rate through Expedia, their reply was conducted in a manner that the person who paid full rate would not have seen.

Area recommendations

The Plaka area in Athens is where all the stores and restaurants are within walking distance. Other tourist areas are not far from Plaka. e.g. Acropolis and museums.

What to pack

It is very hot and dry in Greece in September. Bring very light clothes. The streets are mostly cobbled, so bring good thick-soled walking sandals. An umbrella is a good idea for the sun, not the rain. Bring a good light hat and sunglasses too.

“Quite impressed!”

Very clean and gorgeous. You can relax and feel luxurious every minute in the hotel. Location is slightly far from center of the city, Sintagma, but they offer shuttle bus hotel to the center, worth checking when check-in. Pool located at 10th floor, you can view whole Athens.

“All The Basic”

Around the corner from the Hilton and only a ten minute walk to the subway. Since the subway train travels directly from the airport to this location for only eight euros, this is very convenient.

“Best service in town”

We absolutely loved our one week stay at this hotel. The service was amazing from super friendly and helpful front desk staff to the best house keeping I've had at a hotel hands down. We'd leave our room and come back to find even the papers we had left around organized. The room was comfortable and the roof top pool was exactly what we needed for the mid day heat. The hotel isn't located as close to downtown as some but it's not a long walk if you like the exercise or a very cheap cab ride. My ONLY complaint about this hotel would be that use of the internet is quite pricy so it may not be your choice if that is a consideration.

Area recommendations

Monastiraki was probably my favorite neighborhood for it's interesting markets and affordable shopping. Also, do not visit Athens without going to the archeological museum! We blew 5 hours there with all the amazing sculptures and artifacts to see.

“Great attention to our personal comfort.”

A wonderful stay. Treated so well! We were given an early check in, and the stay was lovely. When we had to check out early we got to the front desk and saw a long line. As we had a plane to catch, we despaired. A porter came over and asked if we were the ones who called the cab. He explained that the line was of people checking in, and promptly moved us to the front of it so we could check out quickly and make our flight.

“Very nice hotel”

Exquisite hotel. Luxury rooms. Wonderful stay overall. Extra charges for internet use and gym use are a little annoying. Reasonable location. 500 m walk to the nearest train station. 500m walk to X96 bus that takes you to the airport for 5 euros. Would definitely recommend this hotel.
