“ideal location”
This is a very well situated hotel within easy reach of many museums, archeological sites, shops, cafes and restaurants. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is served in the rooftop restaurant from which you get a lovely view of the Parthenon on one side and the Temple of Zeus on the other. (Both of these sites are lit up in the evening and look very impressive). Our room looked out on to the Temple of Zeus, which was lovely, but as this was also a busy road there was a lot of traffic noise well into the night. Another slight drawback was that we found the bed rather hard, however that aside we would be happy to return to this hotel as the location and attitude of the staff outweighed any slight inconveniences.
“Great location, fancy rooms, helpful staff - STAY HERE!”
The hotel is located only a short walk from the Acropolis and across the road from the Temple of Zeus and a very short walk form the metro station- the area is really nice and clean and loads of eating places near by. The rooms are really nice, good size, great bathroom and very clean - also a lockup safe in the room which is also handy! The Hotel staff are friendly and helpful with directions and info on getting around Athens. The hotel also has an amazing view of the Acropolis from the roof restaurant (some rooms also have a view for extra cost). I highly recommend this hotel - if you go to Athens - stay here, it's excellent!!!
“Best location for sight seeing in Athens”
What a lucky find to stay in this hotel for our week in Athens. It is in easy walking distance to many of the ancient sites and museums and its proximity to the metro made getting around Athens very straightforward.Sitting on the roof terrace at breakfast with a view of the Acropolis or the Temple of Olympian Zeus was inspiring.Within 5 minutes walk we found the Plaka district full of shop, cafes and restaurants.Food was reasonably priced and every one was friendly. In addition we [2 females] felt safe walking around in the evening. Staff at the hotel were extremely helpful in advising us on how to find what we wanted.Housekeeping was excellent. Our room on the side of the hotel was not noisy but those on the front may have been as the road outside is busy. We would recommend this hotel unreservedly and would use it again.
“Excellent”
The hotel was in the perfect location literally a few minutes walk from the acropolis with amazing views from the rooftop bar. The staff could've been a little more helpful with finding an interesting and different place to eat and finding the way to the port but otherwise the service was excellent. Rooms were bigger than expected, clean and very nicely decorated. Great flatscreen LG tv. I really enjoyed my stay.
“Great Location for Sight Seeing”
Hotel was extremely clean with a modern style and friendly staff. Places of interest within walking distance of the hotel. A great view of the Acropolis and the Temple of Zeus from the resturant on the top floor and from some rooms (dependant on the room location front or back). Taxi cost from the airport to this hotel is approximately 40 to 50 Euros. Would definately recommend this hotel when visiting Athens.
“Excellent !!!!”
This hotel was in an excellent position for visiting Athens and all it's sights. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Lovely rooftop restaurant, excellent breakfast each day. We had dinner in the restaurant one evening which was absolutely delicious and to top it all had wonderful views of the ' lit up ' Parthenon.
“Would use this hotel again!”
perfect location for visiting the sights of Athens, Modern, stylish hotel. breakfast was great. Would definatly stay again.
“Best of Athens”
Very friendly, helpful service from all members of staff; very well located for the main sites of Athens, anf for the Plaka district five minutes walk away; a splendid view from the upper rooms; and a rooftop bar and eating area with a view across to the Parthenon.
“Great hotel, fantastic location”
Athen's Gate was a lovely surprise, located opposite the temple of Zeus and near the Plaka - what more could you ask? The rooms were compact, modern but perfectly kitted out. John the door man was excellent, the staff friendly and helpful. The view from the roof garden of the temple and the Acropolis was amazing, great way to start your day and end it! We travelled with my sister and her friend and the hotel set us up in adjoinning rooms - excellent!
“Greece 2009 - Can't Wait To Go Back!”
This was a fantastic trip. Athens is a deeply historic, interesting and welcoming city. The hotel was terrific too, with the staff both very friendly and helpful. (They could teach us a thing or two back here in the UK let me tell you!) And the view from the rooftop garden at night really is something to behold. I shed a tear I have to confess such was the view. It is quite spectacular and very, VERY romantic. A couple of days later we took a boat out to Aegina Island (from Pareus) and that too was pleasant and very relaxing. If I was to do Aegina again, I would make a very early start, get to the island, hire a scooter or a four-wheeler for the day and explore the whole island. That would be fun I think. I would have, absolutely, no hesitation in recommending either Athens and/or The Athens Gate Hotel as a holiday destination. They are both superb and it won't be too long before we're back there again.
