“Good hotel but not great area”
This hotel was pretty good, the service wasn't terrible and the breakfast buffet was included which was nice. The surrounding area is a little rough though, as once we saw people shooting up heroin on the sidewalk nearby. However, we didn't feel unsafe, and there was some great places to eat nearby. The subway is pretty close and the hop on hop off bus stop is close as well.
“Not impressed.”
The neighborhood was not good and we did not feel safe walking there after dark. Also, there was a problem with the AC in the room. We were there on some pretty warm days and the AC did not run when we were not in the room. It took 4-5 hours of running the AC to get it below 80 degrees in the room. When we told the desk about this they were not helpful.
“comfortable stay in good location”
When we arrived we had a very helpful receptionist check us in, he spoke very good english and was a good person to ask directions from or suggest local places to eat. only downside: do not try to fit two people and their luggage into one elevator!! luckily they have two elevators. the room was air conditioned and clean with a little balcony. it was only a few minutes away from the main centres where you can catch buses or metros all around the city. overall, a comfortable stay in athens.
“"Aristoteles Hotel Rocks"”
Stayed there for 7 days in July (a week after the riots) and despite what negativity you read about this hotel and the surrounding neighborhood I assure you its quite the opposite...the hotel is in the heart of things, it's comfortable, with very accommodating helpful staff especially the front desk clerk who is there mainly week days. Room was comfortable, loads of warm water and most of all the AC worked. I give this place a thumbs up...Big Time! Breakfast can be a bit monogamous but mix and match and it becomes an exciting meal daily. Recommendation: 1. Try the Smiling Cafe just outside the hotel...cool place to lime. 2. Learn the Metro..low cost efficient transportation..can especially save you money on taxi. 3. Hop on Hop off tours a must, even though everything is generally in walking distant. Think safe and you will be safe but don't be paranoid about the neighborhood; I a solo traveller walked around until after midnight and felt no dread.
“Friendly, comfortable hotel - very impressed”
We have just got back from a trip to Athens - we are two middle-aged women who were attending a conference at the university - and we stayed at this hotel for a week. I very much recommend it and would certainly stay there again. The staff were exceptionally helpful and kind, our rooms were very comfortable and peaceful, and breakfast was good. The area is a bit edgy, but we were met with nothing but kindness and certainly never felt threatened or uneasy - even when I got lost by myself in the less salubrious backstreets. In the evening. There is prostitution and drug dealing on nearby streets, but we never felt under threat. The poverty is disturbing - much evidence in the area of the effects of the financial crisis - but perhaps this is an added reason to stay in this area and spend money in local cafes etc. It's a ten minute walk to Omonia metro station, from which you can take a train to Syntagma (5 mins). It was easy to get around, though if you need somewhere very central then Syntagma is probably better. There are a couple of little grocery shops in the immediate area, plus some decent little restaurants and friendly bars. Only one negative experience in an otherwise wonderful week - my phone was stolen on the metro between Evangelismos and Omonia, resulting in a very lengthy visit to Omonia police station. Everything else was fine - don't be put off by fear of the protests. An exceptionally interesting week - I hope to go back soon.
“Bad neighborhood and dirty rooms”
We were looking for a cheap hotel with good reviews and found Aristoteles Hotel. It is an OK hotel for a group of guys like us, but I would recommend the higher floors as during our second stay on the second floor, we got a room full of cockroaches and hair in the shower. The neighborhood is filled with prostitutes and drug dealers, which was not a problem considering there were three of us (all guys). I would not recommend this hotel to a family or a group of girls. The location is OK but we still had to take the metro to get around.
“Worst location ever”
The hotel has a lot of benefits for its price (renovated rooms, clean bathroom, AC, nice breakfast) but the location is just the worst possible! When I read the reviews, I didn't imagine how bad it could be... I was afraid to walk around during day time, I got a taxi to go to the metro station with my luggage because of that... It's a very, very bad neiborhood with a bunch of junkies and prostitutes... I don't recomend it at all... If u are on a budget, I think it would be better to stay at a hostel dorm, with much less confort and a nice location, than to stay here.
“Great hotel, okay area”
It's best to try to get to the hotel during the day as it's kind of confusing to get there from the metro station. The metro station has a hop on, hop off tour next to it which is great. There are also travel agencies, where you can buy ferry tickets if you plan to see some islands. The hotel service is good. They provided razors and shaving creme among other hygiene products. Be sure to ask for a hotel business card, which includes a handy area map. There are computers available to use and wifi. There is also breakfast included.
“Good value for money!”
Walking distance from the City Centre, newly refurbished rooms, great service!
“The Price is Right”
For the price, it wasn't so bad. The neighborhood doesn't seem to be the greatest but I never felt un-safe. I took my grandparents and they had no problem with it at all. The room was small and had a very small tv but we weren't in the room often. Service was great. Everyone was so willing to help out with directions and places to go and eat. Breakfast was bread, a slice of cheese and meat per person and depending on a side dish they served. Its about a 5-7 minute walk to the nearest metro station. Overall a great experience. I would stay again for the price.
