“Not impressed”
Location is not very good. Police told me be careful, this is not a safe area. It was smelly and dingy however only 2 minutes away from metro and thus location is fine if there is more than 1 person. There is no double bed- only 2 single beds attached together. Not comfortable at all. The room was clean and breakfast was not bad. The best bit of the hotel is the lovely view of acropolis on roof.
“a little too noisy”
Good location, reception persons very nice. Restaurant evening service excellent; young man in charge very polite and nice. Good food too, with an amazing view of the Parthenon.
“Adequate Budget Accomodations”
Small rooms with rather hard beds and small showers. Reception staff speak good English and are very friendly and helpful. AC wasn 't working in our room the first night and I was skeptical when the man at reception told me it would be fixed "tomorrow." However, we came home the following evening and found it fixed! Good breakfast. Beautiful view of Acropolis from rooftop restaurant. Close to metro stop. Not a fancy hotel, but it met our needs (a place to sleep after a long day of sightseeing) and the price was right.
“Excellent value for money”
The hotel was very good value for money, our room had AC that worked very well, quadruple glazing, so no traffic noise to speak of. The bathroom was a little tired but worked. Some of the rooms had been revamped so were very good, the rooms were very clean and the bed sheets were changed every day as were the towels. The lift worked well. The breakfast was basic but well presented and you could have as much as you wanted, hard boiled eggs, cheese, ham, cereal, nice bread, yogurt and tinned peaches, coffee, tea and orange juice. The roof top terrace was excellent where you could get food, and drinks at reasonable prices and the view was fantastic - the acropolis was spectacular at night and the sunsets were super. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. There was free internet and a free computer that guests could use. They even loaned us a set of scales to weigh our bags!! There was a Spar shop across the road that sold most things that you could want at a reasonable cost. The central location of the hotel was great 2 mins walk to the metro and restaurants all in easy walking distance. We would stay there again without a problem.
“Clean, convenient, comfortable”
My friend and I stayed at the Apollo for 2 nights on July 1 & 2, 2011. We were with a tour group. The hotel is conveniently located by the subway, and within walking distance of the Acropolis and the Plaka, but be aware that the neighborhood looks scary. However, we didn't have any problems during the day and stayed in at night. There is a lovely roof top terrace with a view of the Acropolis so we had dinner at the hotel. The Greek salad was good; the mousakka just okay. The young male server was pleasant and eager to please. This was a refreshing change as we noticed a lot of very grumpy Greeks working in hospitality and retail in Athens, and on the 3 islands we visited. Perhaps that is due to the economy. A simple breakfast is also served. Our room was clean, comfortable enough, and we saw no evidence of bed bugs. We had a balcony, but it faced a busy street so we kept the door closed. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. There is internet access and also wireless available but it wasn't accessible from our room, only in the hallway.
“Good value, but noisy”
Hotel was good value for money, great rooftop bar / restaurant with amazing views of Acropolis, particularly as it gets lit up in the dark, best souvlaki we had. Although the marble floors look nice they echo the sound of cleaners and people talking, making it difficult to lie in past 7am.
“Breakfast is good”
Location is close to subway, TAXI station etc Most rooms have been renovated but there are still some old ones The air conditioner is working good, TV is old and only BBC channel is in English WIFI is actually working fine, but some rooms are missing the deposit box There is a very good cafe across the street that was a surprise There are supermarkets closed by One of the ladies in the reception is very friendly and provide helpful tour info for us The other lady is not helpful at all - not willing to help Next time I will shop around first. There are plenty of choices
“Apollo Hotel, Athens”
After receiving the best greeting I have had at a hotel, a plesant smile and informative information about the local area and how to find the sights, restaurants and shops, I was disappointed with the room. Like much of Athens itself, and the neighbourhood the hotel is in, it was very run down. The bath had no plug and a hole in it filled with putty. The bed was very hard and came with two tiny flat pillows. Despite ordering a double bed room it was just two single beds pushed together. The hotel has great windows to drown out the noisy road, but the guests and cleaners can all be heard from very early in the morning as if there are no walls. Breakfast was the usual, acceptable, fare and the rooftop bar has a great view of Athens and is staffed by a very polite and humorous character. Despite appearances, and warnings about thieves, the area just looks dangerous but really most people are friendly and keen to help you out. Regeneration would make the hotel and location a gem, in the meantime the staff will have to keep rescuing the place with friendly service
“Very good position, noisy, same breakfast every day.”
The position is very good, you can park the car free outside; if you have a car it's a huge advantage. We did not like the noise from inside: if you slam a door you can wake-up everybody 3 floor distance. The condition of the hotel is good, it's clean and the bathroom well arranged. The metro station is near, 3 minutes walking distance. Breakfast could be better: same cheese, ham, boiled eggs, yogurt and same coffe/tea every morning.
“Conveniently Located and Friendly Staff”
This hotel is conveniently located within 2 minutes walk of Metaxourghio Metro Station, allowing easy access to most sights and attractions around Athens. There is also a bus stop just outside the hotel. The staff at reception were very helpful. On arrival, she provided us with a map, directions to and opening hours of the major sights without us even asking! The rooms were clean and in reasonable conditions. Fresh towels were provided daily within sealed plastic bags. The inclusive buffet breakfast was basic, but adequate. We didn't spend much time in the immediate neighbourhood of the hotel, but it is situated on a main street with traffic 24 hours a day. This coupled with its proximity to the Metro Station meant safety wasn't really a concern, even when returning to the hotel late at night. The hotel also boasts a roof-top restaurant with a view of the Acropolis, but this only opens during the summer.
