“Great hotel, Good location, bar, swimming pool and a massage”
Hi, I was really impressed with this hotel. We stayed for 3 nights. The condition of the hotel was very good. The rooms were clean and had a good amount of space for 2 people. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel has a swimming pool and bar and we had a very nice massage on the last day. Lots of parking. The food in the bar was very good and great value.
“A little tired”
We found the room to be quite small and the bathroom very tight. A 20 minute massage in the spa is offered with the room which we took and was much appreciated after a long drive. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel in general could do with a bit of a face lift as it seemed a little tired and outdated.
“Mirage Hotel”
I have stayed at this hotel twice, but will probably not choose to stay here again. The price of the accommodation is inexpensive, but the level of service is reflected in the price. I always book via expedia, where there is no option to include breakfast in theonline booking. The hotel would not accept payment by credit card for breakfast because it is under the minimum amount that they have set for card payments! (The room was pre-paid via expedia) The breakfast itself was not bad, but the hot buffet was bare by the time I got to it, and I had a very long wait for the staff to replenish it. The rooms seem run doun, and in need of fresh decorating and some minor repairs. (Cracked tiles in the bathrooms etc.) I needed to use an iron and ironing board, which were likewise in a very poor state of repair! The staff are friendly enough, but I feel that the hotel is under-staffed, and I was left with a general impression that the management are more focussed on cost saving than they are on providing good service to their customers.
“Perrrrrrrfect.....nearly!”
Having booked this hotel as a last resort after comparing locations and prices for somewhere near and handy for Alton Towers we were very pleased with what we ended up with. Apart from losing the A52 across Derby and adding an hour to our trip the hotel is well signposted once you get near to Ashbourne.Nice looking and lots of free parking,disabled spaces by the door .We had 2 twin rooms which were spacious with loads of storage space.We were there for 4 days so it got used.We asked for extra pillows and maybe they could have been a little less lumpy but the beds were good.We used the pool which was a great way to end the day.Only drawback was that we were asked for £1.00 each for pool use on checkout.I refused to pay as they had not told us about the charge before we used it and they just let it go.I wouldn't have minded if I had been told first.One room at the back of the hotel faced the inductrial estate so if the window was open then the lorries start up at about 6 in the morning! One night we ate in the bar and the food was freshly cooked and reasonably priced.There are humungous screens for all sporting events .Kids ate free for breakfast and early evening meals ..Breakfast was enormous but as we had to pay we only did it once.Overall we had a good stay at the hotel for the money we paid and would definitely use it again if in the area.I'd try and book a deal with breakfast included though.Alton Towers was only a 15 minute drive.
“Jobsworth Reception Staff but great bar staff”
We booked 2 rooms recently and when my friend turned up early at 1pm, despite the hotel being very quiet, reception refused to let her check in until 2pm. In fact she had to sit in the car until 2pm! Ludicrous. We had to pay £1 each to use the leisure facilities! Never known that before. Leisure centre didn't have towels so we were told to use ones from our room. When we went to recception afterwards to ask for new towels they wanted to charge us £1 each for any additional towels!!! What sort of hotel and leisure centre do this? The bar staff were great and the food was fine. Shame about jobsworth staff and the hotel could do with a good clean and paintover.
