Mount Meru is a good place to stay. It was at its best in the green surroundings (following the good rains) and bright sunshine but even allowing for that, its ambiance and facilities make it a great place to stay. It is a little way out of Arusha but access is fairly straightforward. Good range of restaurants and bars and the poolside barbeque was a real pleasure.
Stayed there for 6 days while my husband was climbing Kilimanjaro
The staff were very friendly and hepfull
It is a little way out of town but they have a free shuttle bus
Overall a very pleasant stay would use this again
The Serena Arusha Mountain Lodge is a total surprise. From its breathtaking location, in a verdant, virtually rain-forest lush setting on the banks of Lake Duluti, to its friendly and responsive staff. Nothing I found to complain about.
Certain issues need looking into. To have no free WiFi in a hotel in this day and age is, well, self-defeating. No matter how good the hotel, given a choice, people today - especially professionals and tourists who intend to stay a week or more - will opt for the one which offers free (both hassle and cost) WiFi.
Bathroom fittings are important too. They should work, should be of high quality and preferably of a known brand. One of the most used items in any hotel room are the bathroom fittings - taps, showers, flushing systems - and these need to be top of the line.
But these are just recommendations. As a peripatetic traveller, both for business and pleasure, I recognise that not everything can be done at once. The people at the Serena Arusha Mountain Lodge were responsive to my requests, as well as the above recommendations, promising to take it up with management.
All in all, I would visit this wonderful little hotel again - probably every time I visit Arusha from now on, which will be several times a year.
We stayed at this hotel the night of arrival to Tanzania, before we went on a safari. Everyone on the stuff was incredibly nice - we arrived in the middle of the night, and had no trouble checking in. The room and the bathroom were both clean, although tiny. The bed was comfortable, the water was hot, the toiletries were provided. The breakfast in the morning was awesome - plenty of fruit, and hot items (eggs, porridge) cooked to order. The stuff went out of their way to make us comfortable - they served breakfast after the official "breakfast end time" because we needed to sleep in due to very late arrival.
I wish we also stayed there the night after safari on the way out of the country (instead of staying in a supposedly fancy downtown hotel which was supposed to be "five star" but turned out to be terrible).

The Arusha hotel offers 65 executive rooms including deluxe and suites as well. These rooms are ideal for families, business …More
We used the hotel before and after our Kili climb. The staff could not have been more helpful with storing baggage and valuables, making ad hoc calls to our tour company etc. The hotel is very clean, comfortable and has a good restaurant
Arrived in the middle of the night and were greeted by the owner. His staff made sure we settled well and had a hot meal.
About the only dog friendly hotel in Arusha. Our pet had the run of the place, felt at home right away. Very happy with our choice.
