“Skip”
Skip this hotel for sure. Rooms were dirty and very uncomfortable. Not to mention, very overpriced.
“needs updates”
The hotel is in a great location overlooking the working harbor in Oban, but the art deco period building needs lots of updating, albeit mostly cosmetic.
“Guest house paradiso”
I'll start with the positives of this hotel. The location is first rate. Right on the Oban waterfront, opposite the pier with some fairly spectacular views out to sea. Our rooms were clean and the bar area, reception and dining room were maintained similarly. Oh, and it was cheap! Now for the negatives. The whole place is extremely tired and in need of good renovation. The builiding itself is a lovely old art deco design and it most definitely would have been fantastic back in its heyday. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to have seen so much as a lick of paint in the last 20 years. The decor is extremely dated and the rooms are small, dark, dingy and uncomfortable. Bluntly, the styling is straight out of the 70s. The staff were fairly hit & miss. The young girl and guy on reception were outright rude and the waiting staff at breakfast were completely unattentive. The two chaps behind the bar however were very friendly and professional and showed the patience of saints whilst having to deal with a drunken and rowdy hen party fae Glasgow despite some appalling treatment from the hens. Although I probably wouldn't recommend this hotel, I wouldn't categorically say 'don't stay there'. If you are on a budget and need somewhere to lay your head for a night, it will do the job. The Regent has character that is lacking in the budget chains but the place is in need of a massive renovation to bring it up to modern day standards.
“Regent Oban”
Hotel is old and outdated. Wall paper wall peeling from all the bathroom walls. Couldn't fit 2 people and 2 bags in the elevator that moved at a snails pace. Guess we should be thankful there was an elevator. Place looked like some of the old castle ruins we visited!
“Weary!”
The hotel is on the Esplanade in Oban, so a very good location, but the room I was in was very old style, utilitarian, no "comfort" features. I had got a reasonable price via Expedia, so for a simple overnight stop it fitted the bill, but I would'nt rush to go back.
“Equal to a Comfort Inn in Quality”
This hotel was ideally located for the downtown area - all of the stores, the resturants, and immediate shoreline. Parking was less than a block away and free from 6PM until 9AM. We had a USA Handicap hanger which would have made our parking free at all times. The room was very very basic but very clean, the bed comfortable, and the bathroom clean with plenty of towels. It also had an elevator for ease of hauling suitcases. Staff very friendly and helpful with Internet access from the room. I believe this hotel is used for bus tours as many travelors were using the hotel. I would equate this hotel to a basic Comfort Inn. Only negative was the old looking carpet in the hallways. I would stay here again.
“Good price and great location and to hop the ferry”
This is an older, basic, no-frills hotel that is affordable and ideally situated for access the CalMac ferry, especially if you have an early or late ferry ride. A full breakfast is included that adds to the value of the already reasonable price.
“The Regent was alright.”
We found the place was comfortable enough and provided what we needed - a decent bed, shower, cleanliness. It was a nice art-deco building; however, despite being a seaside hotel, the view from out our window was of the rubbish and building debris at the back of the hotel. Otherwise satisfactory.
“not the best”
booked this hotel at the last minute, staff on arrival were friendly our room was on the fifth floor but the lift only went as far as the fourth floor, breakfast was okay but waiting staff were a bit disorganised and we gave up waiting for our order, tables were not set properly and we were left to go round other tables to get cutlery, milk, butter. The rooms were quite comfortable and the hotel was value for money compared to other hotels in vicinity but improvements could be made.
“Central et bon rapport qualité prix”
l'hotel est bien placé en centre ville et au bord de l'eau. nous n'y avons passé qu'une nuit et c'était parfait en rapport qualité prix.
