“Not impressed!”
Dingy room, uncomfortable bed, plastic sheet on the mattress, towels like sandpaper, AC sounded like it had a motor attached so could not have it on while in the room, didn't sleep very much for 2 nights because the room was hot and the plastic sheet "scrunched" everytime I turned, wires coming from the shower, water not hot, curtain rail fell on my head when I tried to draw the curtains, very sorry I pre-booked 2 nights, could not wait to leave!
“not impressed”
Owners are nice, rooms are clean, but they have problem with the wires in the shower. Wire insulations for water heater made so sloppy, so when I took a shower it started to burn. Safety wise to be in the shower is quite risky
“Mediocre experience”
The staff were pleasant enough, and helpful when it came to transportation. But, the room had a dingy and depressing feeling due to the bad lighting. It's the kind of room you only want to sleep in and then leave as quickly as possible in the morning. The location is pretty far from the city center, which is ok if you have a car, or don't mind taking a taxi. I recommend spending a bit more money to stay in the center or in a nicer place.
“great value”
For the money, this place is hard to beat. Very quiet, peaceful setting. Owners are very friendly, although they don't speak english. Full, home cooked breakfast is included (eggs/ham, toast, juice, coffee). Convenient to la fortuna town and activities. The only negative was the shower water was warm, but not hot. Otherwise, room was clean and nice.
“great simple, off the beaten path hotel”
This hotel was great. It was simple & comforting. The town of La Fortuna was busy and somewhat confusing to anyone not a Tico. The hotel is just a few minutes outside of town in a beautiful location. There is a beautiful little creek that runs behind the hotel. The hotel owner makes breakfast for you every morning. The breakfast consisted of juice, coffee, eggs, potatoes, toast, and ham. They were also very helpful arranging local tourist events for us and were able to get discounts.
“Budget place about 5 minutes drive to the action”
Better have a GPS unit to find this place. I love the "off roading" & rocky 300 yard drive-in. It definitely adds to the natural landscape of CR. Room is very simple with beds, mini-fridge, microwave oven...no tv. Our host doesn't speak any english but she was very friendly & makes a slammin breakfast. A little inconvinent as your located outside of La Fortuna, must have a car to get to dinner, the volcano or any real adventure. Overall this is a quiet & safe budget place to hang your hat for a few days.
“Authentic Costa Rican experience”
If you are looking for an authentic Costa Rican vacation, this is the place for you. Located a few km outside of the busy city of La Fortuna we felt very safe and comfortable. We were the only guests on our 3 night stay so we were surrounded by all the beauty and peacefulness of this amazing country and had a gorgeous view of the volcano Arenal. Our hosts were amazing!! An honest, hard working family that takes great pride in their property. Breakfast and coffee each morning was delicious! The room was clean and comfortable. Our hosts went to great lengths to make everything perfect. My only wish is that I would have practiced my Spanish a little before I came so that I could have had more conversation with our hosts. But through a little Spanglish and sign language, we were able to figure it all out. Next time we visit Costa Rica we will definitely stay here again!
“Awesome and Tranquil Slice of Paradise - World-Class Hospitality!!!”
Lavas del Arenal was a fantastic slice of paradise. This was our first trip to CR and the hosts were so welcoming and friendly - everything was prepared for us and we were made to feel as though we were VIPs. Breakfasts every morning were wonderfully prepared with care and delicious and I got to practice my Spanish with our hosts. They also invited us to friendly neighborhood chicharrones grill the night before we left which made for a magical evening. I would wholeheartedly recommend this place to visitors in the Arenal volcano area but I secretly hope it stays somewhat a hidden secret as we intend to come back again and again!
“Pura Vida!”
Lavas del Arenal was the first hotel that we stayed in during our trip to Costa Rica. We were very impressed with the level of service that we recieved. All the staff were incredibly sweet and went out of their way to help us. We enjoyed the breakfasts they provided and loved the quiet and serene setting.
“Windows don't open?”
The owner was extremely friendly and the location was a little out of Fortuna proper, but nothing unreasonable. My only complaints were that the windows didn't open, there was no ceiling fan, and extremely musty smelling. There was A/C but I don't use A/C when I travel as I find you climitize better when you don't.
