“Friendly service, clean, quiet, and beautiful!”

We had a great stay at El Silencio de Campo. We found the staff to be friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful - most were fluent in both English and Spanish, and some spoke French as well. The area is beautiful and the hotel itself was very nice. Clean rooms and grounds, nice hot springs and a small pool. It is a quick trip to town (about $6-8 USD for a cab).

“GREAT CHOICE”

You won't be disappointed. Grounds are lovely, close to town, spacious clean rooms; and with their own hot springs, no need to spend extra $ to go elsewhere. We had a fantastic view of the volcano (Room # 2). Food was good, service was slow. BEST: The friendly, welcoming helpful front desk service! After checking out, they held our luggage while we ziplined then called a taxi to take us to our next hotel. Did not ask for money, just wanted to know if we had a good time. Would definitely stay here again.

Area recommendations
So much to see and do.....will return again.
When to go
Our trip in August was during rainy season. Mornings were cloudy, sometimes clear, and the rain came in the afternoon..... very heavy rain! We were active and would probably find the dry season too hot. We also found some internet discounts at this time.
Getting there
We used Desafvio transport/river rafting tour from San Jose and Interbus transport back. Roads are mountainous and curvy. Heavy rain in afternoon. Both shuttles arrived on time, had AC, made comfort stop with clean bathrooms.
Getting around
We booked tours that included hotel pick up.
What to pack
Bug spray, hiking boots, bathing suit, comfortable quick dry clothing, back pack. No need for dressy clothes and there was a hairdryer at every hotel we stayed in.
Family-friendly activities
River rafting Class 2-3 with Desafvio....Excelllent. This was my first rafting experience and was a little apprehensive but the guides are awesome. This was my favorite adventure. Wear t-shirt over bathing suit so life vest doesn't rub your skin. Snacks and lunch provided. A photographer captures photos of your raft and is available for $25 cash......definitely worth it. Sky Tram/Trek Zipline - Lots of fun, felt safe and secure, guides were attentive to safety. Cerro Chatto Hike - Must be in shape. Must have good hiking boots. Not for kids. Pack water, pack light, oh yes....bug spray. HINT: I booked every tour ahead of time, which eliminated decision making while on vacation. Every tour operator delivered.

“We will be back”

Awesome, Awesome!! We love the service, the view, the staff and the food. They were most accomadating to everything and answered all questions and booked all of our tours and we loved our stay with them. They were a small Happy Happy family and it felt so intimate which we enjoyed. We also loved the intimate Hot Spring that they offer which is nice and the bar and the service. We will be back and bring family and friends god willing next year. Thank you for such a great time and your wonderful service.

“Above and beyond service; great view of the volcano”

Will write a more extensive review on other websites, but suffice it to say, the service was above and beyond - was able to book things with the hotel from afar and ask them questions via email which required them to contact adventure companies for me. Always prompt with their response. Very good breakfast which is included. Beautiful view of the volcano. They have their own hot spring and spa. Great staff - very helpful. Would DEFINITELY visit again.

Area recommendations
Not exactly a city - more like a town. Any place is probably fine. Tabacon and others are a good hike and probably expensive taxi ride into town.

“Peaceful and Beautiful while you rest up for all the action.”

We were really impressed by the friendly atmosphere of La Silencia del Campo and especially the little surprise elements that the staff provided made it a very special stay. We were on the go with activities all day, so the natural hot springs were a great way to unwind before and after dinner. We aet dinner there at the little restaurant and found it to be very good and very reasonable and fun to speak with the other guests there and compare adventures from the day. The staff was also accomodating in preparing our (free) breakfast "to go" when we had an early start planned. We loved the grounds including all of the interesting fruit trees in the orchard. We booked based on recommendations on Tripadvisor and from Danny Jimenez, the driver who we booked to drive us from San Jose to La Fortuna.

Area recommendations
I would recommend staying in a location with the natural hot springs so you don't have to travel to enjoy them.

“Tranquility in Costa Rica”

We enjoyed our stay at Silencio Del Campo from the minute we arrived. The cold smoothie drink brought to our family upon arriving was welcoming. The grounds and gardens were beautiful. The large hot spring pool was an added bonus as well as the front porch (on each villa) for morning coffee. The rooms were spacious and very clean. There is no clock/radio in the room and the TV stations are very limited in Spanish. The breakfast is free and pretty good also.

Area recommendations
Is is close to activities, restaurants, and shopping in La Fortuna Costa Rica.
Must see
The Sky-Trek ziplines are a must-do while there. They are awesome and the guides are very friendly.

“El Silencio - A Costa Rican Treasure”

El Silencio was exactly what we wanted in a small resort. The grounds are manicured with the most beautiful flowers and trees and fountains and pools. All space is set up to provide privacy and make you feel your room is your own little cabin in this paradise. The staff couldn't have been nicer or more accomodating. This was our first time in Costa Rica and we were having trouble just getting acclimated so this place proved to be a wonderful entry point. The only recommendation I would suggest is this place seriously needs ceiling fans. The ceilings are high and we wouldn't have had to use so much AC if we could have had a fan, both in our room and in their restaurant. I would definitely stay here again, it was wonderful and a great value compared to the other hotels in the area.

“One of the Best in Arenal”

This hotel is a little gem of a hotel in Arenal - with cottage like rooms, true from the heart genuine Costa Rican service from every member of the hotel staff, a little warm water spring and very quiet ambiance. Food in the hotel restaurant has the taste of good home cooked food and yet served in fine dining style. We stayed here for 4-nights along with our 2 teenage daughters in early June - after having spent few days in North West part of Costa Rica in a big resort near the beach. So our 1st impression of the hotel/area was that it is too quiet, has very dim lighting in the rooms, no phones in the room and no hand-shower in the bathroom. However, slowly the hotel's charm grew upon us. Over the duration of our stay we realized that it is truely a gem of a hotel in this area - providing probably the best value for money including food quality, staff attitude and area ambiance. We did quite a few activities in the area - and were able to arrange the same from the reception desk. If we get a chance to go back to Arenal again, will definitely stay again in Hotel El Silencio del Campo.

“Highly Recommend”

This is a beautiful garden of individual cabins all facing the volcanoe. Gardens are immaculate. A pool of hot water from the volcanoe awaits your aching body. What an absolute treat to stay in this magical garden.

“Wonderful, lush gardens, awesome hot spring & spa, wonderful staff. Loved it!”

We had a great time and highly recommend this hotel. The staff was very helpful and curteous. The facilities are clean. The gardens are amazing. The hot spring and spa are great too. The restaurant serves good meals at reasonable prices. It is obvious that the owner really cares about the hotel and ensuring that everyone has a good time. We highly recommend it.
