“Inadequate security”

The Hotel Kokoro Arenal is very peaceful, with beautiful landscaping and a wonderful team running the hotel. It's kind of far from La Fortuna ($10 taxi), which can be good or bad, depending on your priorities. As much as we enjoyed our stay, we wouldn't go back and cannot recommend for other travelers until the owners improve the security. One of the windows in our room did not lock; the door wouldn't latch properly if the humidity level was just right, and the doors do not have deadbolt locks. Fortunately we were not robbed, but another room was robbed during our stay.

Family-friendly activities
We had a blast on the Rio Balsa river rafting tour. It rained the whole day, but it didn't matter a bit as you get soaked to the bone regardless.

“Wonderful hotel, can't wait to go back!!”

This hotel was wonderful! The owners were very attentive and helpful with everything. They arranged our excursions and provided transport to-from the airport. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and maintained. Our villa was comfortable and very clean. Breakfast was provided and was delicious. The owners David and Anita and their son Felico were excellent hosts, and all the employees were helpful and friendly. The hot springs on the grounds were a welcome end to our day. The views of the volcano were breathtaking, when you open your door it is the first thing you see. Lovely place, wonderful people!!

Area recommendations
Many shops in the town of La Fortuna. There is also horseback riding and other hot springs to visit. The restaurants offer authentic Costa Rican foods and are delicious.
What to pack
Light clothing, take a rain jacket or poncho. Rains every day in the wet season. Take jeans for the horseback riding and hiking gear if you do rainforest hikes. Also insect repellant and sunscreen.

“Great place!”

I stayed here at the end of December, right after Christmas. We came to see the volcano but it rained the whole time so we never caught a glimpse of it. Fortunately the hotel staff was very friendly and recommended other activities in the area, and even helped us book tours that picked us up from the hotel. The complimentary breakfast was good, unlike most free breakfasts where it's just a buffet, they made eggs, french toast, and other hot items to order in addition to the buffet of fresh fruit and pancakes. The room was really huge for the money, we had entire cabin type thing for just 2 people. There was a little leak in the roof, but they had a house plant strategically placed under the leak :) I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to friends, the staff was very friendly and the atmosphere was great!

Area recommendations
If you have a car it doesn't really matter where you stay because the town is basically just one long strip of hotels leading up to the Arenal National Park, and it doesn't take more than 10 minutes to get anywhere. If you don't have a car make sure you stay somewhere close to the center of town so you are able to walk to places for food/drinks/entertainment... the tour companies pick up from every hotel so you don't have to worry about transportation for any activity you arrange while you're there.
What to pack
Don't forget that even though you are in the tropics, places like La Fortuna/Monteverde are in the rainforest high up in the mountains. It rains a lot and it is chilly! Make sure to pack long pants, a long sleeve t-shirt and a waterproof rain jacket.

“Arenal Costa Rica”

The Arenal area is full of activities and beauty....and the Hotel Kokoro was the focus of most of our fun. The hotel is run by a great family that is knows the various rafting, rappelling and adventure choices in the area....and negotiates the best deals. They were very helpful and made the trip great. Hotel is on a nice piece of land that has beautiful flowers, humming birds and a pet parrot! Nice pool and jacuzzi with a view of the volcano. Patio where you eat a nice breakfast has a great view of the volcano. Good place to get wireless connection and meet the other guest. Beds in room were nice....and the rooms were spacious for my family. Very good

“Absolutely Amazing!”

This place is absolutely amazing!!! I booked it for one night but ended up extending our stay for 3 additional nights!!! Super clean, spacious cabins with a gorgeous view of the Arenal volcano! The staff is so sweet and helpful with everything! I can't say enough about this place!!

Area recommendations
La Fortuna is a short 10 minute drive away from this beautiful resort, and it's worth going for some local shopping, fresh fruit, tasty coffee treats, and snacks!
What to pack
If you plan on doing any of the adventure tours, which the staff from Kokoro will be more than happy to book for you, I would suggest you pack a pair of hiking/water shoes since many require you to get wet!

“Heaven - Seriously!”

Kokoro surpassed my expectations! The staff at the resort went above and beyound the call of duty to ensure we received premium service. It began from setting up the shuttle bus to and from the airport and resort. Once we arrived it felt like heaven! I think it is heaven at Kokoro! The cabins immaculate! the space is cozy and the bathrooms are HUGH! I LOVE this place and love the family that operates this amazing place even more. Also there is the cutest parrot - Lulu - that sings when it rains, so pretty much she sings everyday :) We had sust a relaxing and enjoyable stay - my best friend and I call our vations "the LONGEST short vacation ever" my friends and I are planning another trip there in November of this year and we are going with a big crew! Thanks Kokoro!

“Great Stay”

We had a very nice stay at Kokoro La Selva Resort. The rooms were very spacious and clean. Grounds were well kept and we had a great view of the Volcano. The owners/staff were very friendly and accommodating. No restaurant, but the town is nearby, and they would organize food to be delivered if you don't want to go into town. Overall it was a great price for the location and accommodations. Would highly recommend this hotel.
