"Beautiful for a local, even better for a foreigner"
I recently stayed at La Mansion Arenal for a 3-day weekend to celebrate Mother's Day with my wife and 2 daughters. Property is quite a bit away (45 minute drive) from the main town of La Fortuna, and about 30 minutes from the Major Hot Springs, which tend to be the big attractions of the area. However, the property is right on Arenal Lake, with breathtaking views and incredibly peaceful. Food at a hotel is usually not good (bland, plain), however everything at this hotel was wonderful, from appetizers by the pool, to dinner, to the fresh baked German bread and even the local Gallo Pinto, all for reasonable prices.
The room was spacious, with an eclectic design. We had a 2-room villa and the main room had 1 32-inch TV with SkyTV with many additional channels (not just the basic ones). Room was a bit dark when lights weren't on, but no biggie. Kid's room was actually separate one, so they had to go through ours to go to the bathroom, so if adults wish to have a little private time, these rooms don't do it. Shower had a small issue with hot water (either hot or cold, no warm) but owners quickly helped us fix it. Free wi-fi on property is good.
Service from staff is friendly and excellent, helped us in hiring a tour of the lake on a boat, which was fun. Overall would definitely recommend although it's a bit pricier than other hotels in the area.
