In a spectacular position high in the hills, this is the finest of all Andalusias ipueblos blancos/i (white villages). Its whitewashed labyrinthine old town climbs up and cascades back down the ridgeline. The main plaza is occupied by the town hall, two striking churches built on Arab fortresses, and an historic parador. One side of the square opens to a sweeping view over open countryside and a river gorge.
