We had a very difficult time finding the hotel and when we got there, only slightly after the designated check in time, no one was there to let us in. We waited more than 3 hours and then the owner's father, who didn't speak English, showed up and let us in because the owner was on the other side of the island. The room was perfectly comfortable though and when the owner finally did arrive she apologized profusely and check in went smoothly. She even brought us breakfast the night before because we had to leave early, which was quite sweet. I don't think we would stay there again given the flakiness but we had a good time.
This is a great family run hotel where all guests are made to feel part of the family, the hotel is positioned in what I would say was the most beautiful part of Kefalonia - Sami. This hotel is only a 2 minute walk to the beach and is adjacent to a 5* hotel of which allows guests to use the pool facilities (with outdoor hot-tub) overlooking the beach! The harbour and town is a 10-15 minute stroll along the beach front and is extremely accessible there are many beachfront restaurants which serve lunch and dinner, the setting is truly romantic. The owners are extremely knowledgeable of the area and will go to great lengths to ensure your stay is memorable. I would recommend this hotel to anybody looking to visit Kefalonia, you will not be disappointed.
The hotel is a 20 minute stroll along the beach from Sami. It has views to the front of Ithica island and mountains to the rear. Lots of Tavernas in Sami to eat/drink at, all within feet of the sea. Very relaxing. Antimsamos beach is a couple of miles away and well worth a visit. We did a walk up Mt Ainos (5000ft up - great views on a clear day) but you need a car.
The hotel is new and very well maintained. The hostess (Aphroditi) is an excellent host and makes sure that you have anything you need. The small village of Agia Efimia is a quiet and very quaint place. It is suitable for families as well as couples/singles. Restaurants/grocery shopping is within walking distance from the hotel. You can swim at the hotel's swimming pool or choose to go to one of the amazing nearby beaches (you need a car or bike). Plenty of things to see on the northern part of the island as Afroditi pointed out to us and she was right on the money. I highly recommend the hotel as everything was perfect.
Alexatos hotel exceeded our expectations! Myrka the owner and her family were very kind and anything we asked from her was never a problem. We were married on the island and upon our return to our room myrka had flowers, wine, and entire cake waiting for us in the room! Such a sweet unexpected gesture :) The studio apartments are clean and in a great location in Agia efimia, close to super markets, restaurants, car and boat rentals, beach etc. Myrka was also very helpful with telling us where the best beach spots were (myrtos and antisamos beach were our fav) you have to rent a car and explore the entire island-10 days was not enough! Traveler tips: eat at Captain Corellis-its 5 min walk from the hotel and it was by far the best and most inexpensive authentic greek restaurant on the strip with an incredibly friendly atmosphere.
After reading all the previous reviews, I thought it would be hard to meet those standards. Well, it went further and if I could it would be six stars. Arrived on an very early flight from Athens, welcomed into Katerina and Barry home/hotel and from that moment is was a life changing experience.
We hired a car for the second half of a six day stay and each day, we were given guidance of what to see and do. For the first three days, Katerina and Barry would drive us to the local town, where we would hop on a ferry to one of the islands and then get a taxi back.
In the evenings we were treated to Katerina's cooking. Imagine your favourite restaurant, well this it is plus a lovely setting looking down on the flowers in the courtyard and village.
We arrived very late with a ferry at the port. Hotel wasnt too far so it was very easy to find. Actually this is not a hotel but rather a house rented by its owner. It is very clean, exactly what you paid for. You can also find food and water in the refrigerator which is very hard to find in any hotel in Greece. I dont know why but they dont put even any water and you are not sure if the tap water is drinkable at the islands.
"Informal relaxation destination in remote location"
We found the availability of this hotel when searching online for specific dates for a holiday to Kefalonia. Other reviews about its remote location and ability to relax and unwind appealed to us. This cannot be overstated! We chose to hire a car for 3 days. As we have had such a fantastic time, next time we will hire a car for the whole of our stay. Other reviews mention having a room on the second floor: we did not have to request this - our room had already been allocated on this preferred floor. The views are breathtaking. The pool is lovely, a lot bigger than you might expect for a hotel of this size. The bar area is great, having a bit inside and also seating outside. Our bathroom and the loos near the bar were impeccably clean and our room was made up every day. Our towels were changed once during the week, which was adequate. There are two beaches within walking distance: St Thomas's and Trapezaki. Both are down very steep hills, so this must be considered if you are not very agile. But you can park at both, so if you have a car, that makes it easier. Having a car is also beneficial if you want to eat out, as both beaches have small tavernas (St Thomas = 2, Trapezaki = 1). Eating at the hotel is "OK" but not fine dining level. The staff all speak superb English and Reception arranged our car hire. The gardens are lovely, if a little unkempt. Try Denis's Taverna, Trapezaki beach for a meal out. Stunning and VERY high class. Tip: take own teabags!
