“Blue Waters in Antigua”

We picked this hotel because it is everything the Sandals is not. It's quiet, clean and not crowded (at least when we visited in July). The only complaint I have is that this hotel really is if you are a non-smoker and you have allergies to the smoke or are extremely sensitive to the stench, this hotel is not for you. The hotel does little to discourage smoking in all the public areas. We were run off by smokers from the beach and the open restaurant several times during out week's stay. The staff however, are absolutely wonderful. They are polite and extremely friendly.

Area recommendations
If you are the adventurous type as we are, rent a car and drive around the island. Go to St. Johns to mingle with the locals. Shirley Heights is a must - beautiful views. If you can, take advantage of excursions such as Jeep safaris and boat rides around the island.

“Secluded paradise”

Blue Waters is a great get-away hotel in Antigua. It's about 15 minutes from the airport. It is set in a small cove with a private beach and has all the water sport equipment available. The hotel is very attractive with lush tropical landscape. The rooms are not particular fancy but very comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I got the best rate through Expedia...cheaper than going directly through the hotel. Great value compared to other upscale resorts in the area.

Area recommendations
The hotel is in a nice neighborhood away from downtown. If you really have to shop, take a 15 minute taxi ride into St. John
Family-friendly activities

“Loved this small resort”

Loved everything about Blue Waters except the food! Mediocre at best and way over priced! Otherwise the setting was fabulous, staff was friendly and service was great! We were in a "hillside" room and had a fabulous unexpected view of the ocean. Very romantic getaway! Looking forward to my next visit, whenever that might be. Hopefully they will make much needed change to menus and quality of food at all their restaurants.

“Great people, great hotel”

The people working at the Blue Waters Resort simply made the hotel wonderful. We've never met a nicer bunch of people, from the guy who helped us with the lobby printer to the bartenders. The location is superb with calm blue sea and a couple beaches. The rooms are clean and the beds are comfy. The air conditioner worked great. We'd go back in a second.

“A beautiful resort with caring staff”

The management and staff were magnificent, The grounds are gorgeous and well-maintained. The only negative for us was the fact that a portion of the beach area had small stones near the shoreline. There was a deck built out into the water (with a nice pool on it) and the beach and on the east side of that deck the beach was stone free. The breakfast at the Palms Restaurant was excellent. Again, I must say the staff treated us with the utmost of caring.

“Jewel in Antigua's Crown”

Blue Waters is a jewel in Antigua's crown. The staff are great, the hotel location is amazing and the food was worth every penny. Although we did have a couple of small problems during our two-week stay for our honeymoon, senior staff made it their top priority to rectify any minor issues and went above the call of duty to make it up to us so all was forgiven. We took full advantage of the watersports on offer as part of the hotel's all-inclusive package and think all guests should do the same - the reef near the hotel is wonderful and definitely worth a visit to do a spot of snorkelling. Our stay was for our honeymoon and we were treated to champagne and canapes in our room on arrival and a room service champagne breakfast on a morning of our choice during the stay. Both were great added benefits and made us feel like valued guests. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a relaxing stay at a beautiful hotel - but be prepared to gain a few pounds as the food is amazing and in abundance!!

Area recommendations
Definitely go on the Adventure Antigua Eco Tour, this was our best day out by far. Be prepared to be pounced on by street vendors and shop owners in St John's. It's definitely worth a visit to see the town still! Go snorkelling, it's beautiful.
What to pack
An umbrella! The island doesn't always escape the negative side of a tropical climate.
Events and shows
Spend a sunday night at Shirley Heights - they have a weekly bbq and steel band there while you can watch the sunset.

“Secluded Blue Waters Antigua is Paradise”

We were greeted by management with cold towels to freshen up with & cold beverage from the bar! Blue Waters continually exceeded our expectations. The food was great and had several options between the 3 restaurants. The free water sports options were great from kayaking, to sailing (they provided lessons) to snorkeling. The Private beach was the best! The staff was always eager to help. We mentioned that we were there on our honeymoon, and then next day we were offered a free champagne breakfast in our room! Everyone & everything was just awesome and we hope we can return again soon.

Area recommendations
Antigua has 365 beaches, one fo each day of the year. So pick one! We never left the Blue Waters Resort because there was so much to do (or not do) in our secluded paradise. We kayaked to a couple of the surrounding beaches and had the place to ourselves!

“A little piece of heaven in Antigua”

From the beginning we felt welcomed and at home. The rooms at the Cove Suites were beautiful and the service personnel were friendly and efficient, from the receptionstaff to the cleaners to the pool bar attendants. The meals were very good for the most part though breakfast was a bit predictable. ( English breakfast every day) We would return in a heartbeat.

“Stunning!”

This was our first trip to the Caribbean, and the feeling we had on leaving was that its hard to go wrong on Antigua. My wife and I had a 5-day getaway and loved it. Already I find myself returning to Expedia to explore the next chance we will have to return. Our feelings about Blue Waters? Good, but not quite to the standard we were expecting. The resort is stunningly beautiful and while it is secluded it doesn't isolate you from nearby attractions. The atmosphere of the place is definitely one of a relaxing retreat, not a party place. If you want to mix things up though there is a casino, the Beach Restaurant, St. Johns, etc. all within a 15 minutes radius (taxi). The balance of facilities is spot on. You don't struggle to find a corner to yourself to relax uninterrupted and take everything in. Where we felt things let us down a bit though were the quality of some of the staff. While many of them were world class, others really were lazy or completely unhelpful which was disappointing. Also, the food was ok but definitely didn't justify the price tag. We ended up eating at restaurants down the road most nights, but you have to catch a cab to the nearest ones - getting out wasn't a bad thing though. Otherwise, our room was fantastic and overall we were happy with our stay. If we were to return to the island, I'm not entirely sure we would stay at Blue Waters again but we would definitely look at it. I would also recommend hiring a car and making a day trip around the island!

Area recommendations
Most of Antigua is amazing. St. Johns is a little bit chaotic - worth visiting, but not staying. The south and west of the island has more life to it, but the whole island is scattered with beautiful beaches.
Dining
I would recommend eating at the Beach Restaurant (North West in Antigua). The food doesn't try to be pretentious, but is good value for money and the bar itself is a great time - full of life, great location, variety and friendly, helpful staff!
Family-friendly activities
I would recommend renting a car and making a day trip around the island - all up the driving takes about 3-4 hours. Devil's Bridge and English Harbour are definitely worth stopping at, and don't miss Fig Tree road in the south!!!

“REAL GETAWAY”

The staff at this hotel is the best! Always cheerful and accommodating, they provide for your every need. It is a great place for a honeymoon or just to relax. The grounds are very well kept and provide a sense of privacy nestling each unit in an array of colorful foliage with breathtaking views of the Caribbean Sea. This is definitely the place for the discerning and sophisticated traveler.

Traveller's tip
Quaint and rustic, Antiqua refreshing in a world of chain hotels and manufactured pleasure. Wonderful, picturesque sights abound, shops for touristy pursuits, good restaurants, esp. "Hemmingways" and a decent supermarket, "Epicurians". Under development make this an excellent place to relax and renew....take a catamaran cruise around the island, lounge on any of the 365 beaches, and leave the electronic devices home!
