“Captain Cook Hotel, Anchorage AK”
Really enjoyed the stay, very clean and comfortable.
“My Favorite Hotel in Anchorage”
I loved this hotel: old school charm, super clean and well maintained and really really excellent service. On my top ten list of hotels--all time. A very pleasant surprise.
“First Time in Anchorage!”
The Hotel Captain Cook was a very comfortable place to stay and the staff was very hospitable, but I couldn't believe that you had to pull open the big heavy front doors! They were not automatic or there was no handicap opening button.
“Outstanding Customer Service”
Our vacation had our group fishing in Seward for a couple of days and then flying to a Lodge on Lake Clark for a week. Captain Cook's staff stored five 50lb boxes of freshly caught fish in their freezer all week until we returned to Anchorage. When we pulled up to drop off our frozen fish the bell staff graciously met us with a luggage cart at the entrance and wrote up our reciepts and we were on our way. One week later we returned and stayed for only one night. Again the staff was quick to meet our early check in needs and gave us a key to a beautiful corner room on the 9th floor. The hotel was clean and the staff was professional. I would highly recommend this hotel. Worth every penny!
“Highly Recommend the Captain Cook!”
I have stayed here many times and have always had a very pleasant experience. Staff is always very accomodating and the rooms are very comfortable.
“Will Return in 2012”
The location was great, the food was above average, the staff was extremely gracious and pleasant. The parking was the only challenge, valet was nice but expensive, same as in any major city. The hotel is in easy walking distance of main downtown shopping.
“Dysfunction Junction”
If this is the best hotel in Anchorage, there's an opportunity for a high-end chain in this town. Check-in took about 30 minutes, and there was no bellman available to take our bags to the room. We had booked a junior suite for a party of three, and they tried to stick us in a room that looked like it hadn't been updated since the Eisenhower Administration (and smelled like it) and had no place for a rollaway for our child. When we asked to move, we ended up in a much better room, although still pretty low on the luxury meter -- half-empty shampoo bottles in the shower, nasty shower pad like grandma's, no AC, minimum of towels, etc. Were told that breakfast was served all day, so had friends meet us for brunch, only to be told (after being handed breakfast menus) that we couldn't get an omelet after 11AM. Wouldn't repeat.
“Pricy, stuffy, snooty”
I do not know why anyone would spend a kings ransom a night for a hotel without air conditioning and small rooms, many with lousy views. To be honest it is a pretty place, has a museum quality to it and some of the staff are very nice, Brendan, the young man at the small desk in the lobby is a great guy. The front desk folks and the snooty bartender in the Crows Nest restaurant were disappointing. If you like/need to feel sucked up to than I guess you might like Hotel Captain Cook. If you want value and a bigger, cooler room go elsewhere. I got to the room, it was hot and stuffy. i called the desk and they were less than concerned and told me there is no A/C and to open the window and turn on the ceiling fan. I also mentioned the terrible view and his reply was sorry we are fully booked, can't help you. Opening the window let in air and a lot of street noise, gulls screaming and sirens blaring. Not worth the money!! Brendan deserves applause for being well informed, helpful and pleasant.
“Beautiful hotel and fantastic service”
The Captain Cook is a bit pricy, but the hotel does everything possible to bring value to their guests' visits. The rooms, lobbies, restaurants and other facilities are beautifully maintained, the concierge was fantastic with everything from quick advice to intricate tour bookings, and every member of the hotel staff was incredibly friendly and warm. We had a wonderful stay at this hotel and would absolutely stay there again.
“nice hotel”
The Captain Cook hotel is located in the heart of Anchorage a short drive from the airport.Service from staff and at the restaurants was good.the hotel decor seemed a little dated but well maintained.overall we had a pleasant stay ,the staff was friendly and professional and i would recommend this hotel to others.
