The 40 guestrooms at The Dylan Amsterdam are individually designed, each offering a blend of European and Oriental styles. The decor features bold color schemes, well-crafted Oriental furniture, and potted orchids. Guestrooms in the original 17th-century building have VCRs, and many have four-poster beds, exposed beams, and floor-to-ceiling drapes. Guestrooms in the 1999 extension have more streamlined décor and DVD players, and are accessed via ultra-minimal, white corridors. All rooms offer a desk or a small two-seat dining table, closets with sliding slatted doors, and slender, high-backed chairs. Guestrooms are all non-smoking.

“5 star price, 3 star quality”
We arrived at 1pm and front desk said room would be ready when we return from grabbing a lunch. We returned at 3pm and room was still not ready but they offered us a drink from the lounge and said 15 minutes max. 45 minutes later they showed us to the room. Not really that big of deal other than had we known it would be that late we would have shown ourselves around the city rather than sitting in there lobby. The room was nice but smelled like cigarette smoke. Bed was not very comfortable and pillow was stiff. First morning we awoke to construction next door (not the hotel construction but the neighbor). Other than the check in mishap and the uncomfortable bed and pillow everything was amazing. Food in restaurants was great, staff was friendly and helpful, design of hotel is incredible, and the location was absolutely perfect. We would go back to this Hotel for another shot because of the location but I do think they are a bit overpriced.
“very impressed”
incredible hotel to stay at
“Quiet Retreat in old town Amsterdam”
My husband and I flew into Amsterdam and took a cab to the hotel to stay for 3 nights before a cruise with the hopes of getting over jet lag while being able to see some of the sights. Everything is within walking distance - food, shopping and sights. Our hotel room was very quiet and easily made completely dark, so we were able to sleep off the jet lag any time of day with no problem. The hotel restaurant was pricey, so we did not eat there, but the buffet breakfast looked great. A renowned cheese shop was just around the corner and a great deli was about a block away. Reasonably priced coffee shops and restaurants were everywhere. The concierge was very helpful. We had fresh fruit in the room and bottled water was delivered each evening.
“Disappointing”
On arrival we were given a lousy room with a view of a brick wall, windows that could not be opened (mechanism was broken), a toilet in the middle of a tiny bathroom, a shower in a tub hidden behind a wall - dark and slippery, a safe box that would not work. I don't need to go on, you get the picture. Next day we were transferred to a proper room but the stay left a lingering dissatisfaction. On the positive side, the staff were pleasant and the location was very good. For a hotel which is a member of the SLH, this was sub-par.

Canal Ring, Amsterdam, Netherlands: The classic Amsterdam image of stately canals, the Canal Loop is principally the Herengracht and Keizersgracht, lined with gracious tall 17th and 18th-century houses. Some of these are now museums, most notably the eccentric Kattenkabinet. The Amstel is a more down-to-earth waterway, lined with houseboats and famous for its classic muchphotographed Magere Brug (Skinny Bridge). The floating Flower Market is also a much-loved canal feature.
