This 11-story Sheraton Amsterdam Airport Hotel & Conference Center has 406 soundproofed, contemporary guestrooms, strikingly decorated in scarlet, black, and white. Abstract modern prints in black-lacquered frames contrast with sepia-toned Dutch line drawings in elaborate gilt frames. Polished steel lamps hang above granite-topped bedside tables, and built-in closets have mirrored doors. All guestrooms have desks, wireless Internet access (surcharge) and in-room safes. Bathrooms have separate tubs and showers, marble-tiled floors, curved black granite vanities, and make-up mirrors.

Dining

Voyager - Semiformal restaurant overlooks the airport. Giant globe in the center of the room, murals about the history of flight, and a midnight-blue domed ceiling dotted with tiny lights. Hot-and-cold buffet breakfast and a la carte lunch and dinner menus daily. On weekdays, extensive lunch-through-dinner buffet includes freshly cooked fish and a wide range of desserts.

Runway - Large and informal bar-café off the lobby serves an express breakfast, a range of beverages, and a light menu of sandwiches, salads, burgers, pastas, pastries, and ice cream. Hardwood floor, painted wicker chairs, exposed brick walls, and an adjoining smoke-free lounge. Open all day until late evening.

The Gate - Set between the Voyager Restaurant and Cascade, this venue offers impressive views.

Cascade - Peaceful lounge in hotel's eight-story atrium is bathed in natural light. Water cascades over a giant glass panel on one wall. Potted trees and shrubs, and conversationally arranged sofas and armchairs. Open 24 hours; until midnight, drinks and food can be ordered from the adjoining Boomerang Bar.

Recreation

The hotel is scheduled to open a new health club in spring 2005. During the refurbishment, guests have complimentary access to a temporary 24-hour fitness room, with eight cardio machines, free weights, a TV, complimentary towels, and shower facilities.

“Great for catching up flight”

“Fantastic hotel in great location for early flights or train journeys”

Really nice hotel. I'm sure its expensive most nights, but I got a special deal for a Sunday night. Great rooms, very quiet, all that you want a hotel to be. Only issue I had was checking in when I was allocated a room that was already occupied! Turns out the guy behind the desk had just worked a double shift. Took a good 10 minutes wait at the front desk to get a new key - come on guys, you should have an extra person to stop people waiting more than 4 minutes to check in. All in all, thoroughtly recommend this hotel if you can afford it!

“great place to stay when you've got an early flight”

We stayed here at the end of our trip in Amsterdam. It made it extremely easy to catch our 7am flight to London. The rooms were clean, they have coffee available 24/7 (very important). We went to the Runway bar for a 12am dinner and the food was good and the service was nice. In general, a great place to stay if you need to catch a flight. It's a relatively easy trip into the city, but I wouldn't have stayed here for the whole trip as I didn't want to take a train into the city every day.

“Excellent overnight hotel at Amsterdam Airport.”

The Sheraton is connected to the terminal. Clean, quiet,comfortable room and very good food.

“Convenient but faceless”

The Sheraton AMS airport hotel is conveniently located, just a short walk from the main terminal building. The rooms are ok but not exciting, no bathrobe. Meals and other services are extremely overpriced. Overall fine for 1 night stay but definitely not if you plan to use it as a base for seeing Amsterdam.

“Could not have been better!”

Excellent hotel even more convenient than we could have imagined, just minutes from Arrivals, never having to set a foot outside and easy to find. Check in was fine. Our room was great, very big, with a great outlook. We enjoyed watching all the planes coming and going and never heard a thing!! Comfortable, large bed and nice bathroom with separate shower. The menu in the restaurant was not to our (English) taste and breakfast was quite expensive, but convenient and efficient. Concierge was very helpful and booked us some great trips. The 20 minute train trip into Amsterdam each day was no bother at all. Really glad we decided to stay a Schipol not in City, would do the same again.

Area recommendations

Lindbergh 4 1/2 hr trip to windmills, cheese factory, clog factory and fishing village was brilliant, an absolute must, not much time in the coach, a great taste of life beyond Amsterdam, really interesting and beautiful places. A free trip round the Gasson diamond factory was great but don't take your credit card! Red light district late evening was fascinating. We were told it was quite safe before midnight and I must say we never felt at all threatened.

Shopping

Overall we weren't very impressed with the shops. The mall at Schipol was as good as anywhere and cheaper than duty free.

Family-friendly activities

The evening pizza boat cruise was really fun. Time to take the weight off our feet and just cruise along with a few glasses of wine (included). Tthere was a good commentary and plenty things of interest.

“non-smoker”

the first room they checked me into was very smelly with tobacco smoke. However they rectified this with a cleaner room when I asked for another room. Apart from that everything was good.

“Handy to both train station and airport”

For a short stay this airport cannot be beat. It is attached to both the airport and train station. If I was staying for longer I would probably want to be in town. The hotel was modern and clean and had everything a traveler could want. I appreciated the Internet connection to complete a few things which I needed to do on my stay.
