“Excellant value, central location”

This is a lovely central hotel that provides everything a traveller to Amsterdam needs. A 3 minute walk to Dam Square yet tucked away in a quiet location overlooking one of the many calming canals. The only place I will stay whilst in Amserdam in future.

Area recommendations
Dam Square and the surrounding area for it's shops, cafes, bar & restaurants etc.
Getting around
Just walk, it's flat & relaxing - just watch out for the cyclists!!!!

“great place, great location and at a great price!”

The Rembrandt Classic Hotel was only a few blocks walk from most of the places we went to see (ie: Anne Frank House). If you're feeling adventurous, you can walk pretty much everywhere from there, even to/from Central Station! The hotel was well-kept, but that could be because of the overly concerned housekeeping. They passed by every 15 minutes or so to ask if we were ready. It would be good to have "Do Not Disturb" signs to prevent this disturbance. The walls were pretty thin, since I could hear when people closed doors and what seemed like average-volumed conversations were heard pretty well (I'd only call it eves-dropping if I understood what was being said). Wi-Fi is NOT included. We would have to pay euros per minute/hour, etc. It would have helped us enjoy our stay more if we were able to surf the web for stuff. The fact that each minute was being charged steered us from going there. Aside from these very few minor flaws, I'd come back here again. The service was very courteous and hospitable. They spoke English very well and clearly communicated items charged etc. Being located right along a canal makes it a comfy cozy place to come back to after a cold day out at The Dam.

“Great location - would recommend.”

Def recommend this place - great location. Not far from loads of nice restaurants, near the main square and only about 10/15 min walk from the central station. Near other key attractions too. Hotel was very clean, and comfy beds, only negative about the room was not being able to open the windows - was fine as it was winter so not really wanting them open, not sure how annoying that would be in the summer though! Didn't have the breakfast but not necessary only minutes away from some really nice cafes serving great coffees and food.

Area recommendations
The area near this hotel is really nice - great little streets with vintage stores and cute little cafes.

“would not go back”

we had read the reveiws but we never act on them in the case of rembrandt clasic maybe we should have. the hotel stunk of weed in every corridors the bar closed at 10pm. the staff were very freindly that was the only good thing it had going for it. we have been going to amsterdam for twenty years stayed in some hotels twice because we liked them, but this hotel has to be the worst. the breakfast room was cold the breakfast was not as displayed on their web site.

Area recommendations
any area in amsterdam is fine, we have stayed in the centre plus stayed on the outskirts.
Getting around
we always buy a tram plus ticket the trams are the best way to see amsterdam

“November in Amsterdam was good”

practical, efficient, clean, cost effective, good value for business travel, get a canal view on 3rd or 4th floor, tv has only ten channels, mostly news channels for bus traveler.

“ejoyable stay”

The Hotel was more than adequate . Our bedroom was on the first floor front with a great view overlooking the Herengracht canal . It was clean , comfortable and spacious . The en suite bathroom was fine especially the excellent hot water for both the shower and basin . The breakfast facilities in the sub ground floor area were typical of a continental three star hotel and were perfectly adequate . (somehow the industrial type toasters never really come up to the mark !! ) The staff were polite and helpful . The location was very convenient and only a short walk to central Dam Square and a further ten minutes down Damrak to the central station . The Anne Frank house is only a few minutes walk from the hotel . All in all an excellent stay .

Area recommendations
"Hop on Hop off Bus" excellent value especially the optional canal cruise both of which gave a splendid overview of the City and a preview of the location of the various attractions .
Getting around
easy enough walking .
What to pack
Raincoat essential.
Must see
Anne Frank house and Art museums .

“Nice Neighbourhood”

Hotel was subpar all in all. The room was very small with older fixtures and look. Not bad but not good either. Double bed was two singles pushed together (really two singles - individual bedspreads and all). Desk staff (male) were rude and uncaring - the internet was not available to be purchased (no vouchers at desk) and online site was broken. The bar was useless as well.... really the more I write about it the more I feel it was a hole. Neighbourhood the hotel is in on the other hand is brilliant. Great location for wandering old areas and towards, cafe's, coffeeshops and landmarks.

Area recommendations
Stay just outside the first canal ring. Great area for travelling in and out.

“Worst of 4 hotels we stayed in Amsterdam”

I made reservations over the internet for a weeks stay. Our business in the Ukraine finished early so we had to get reservations for more nights and just arranged them when we got to Amsterdam. We used 3 other hotels and rooms were small but very new and well kept; more convenient than the Rem brandt also. The buttons for the elevator were all visably filthy. I am very careful while traveling but I got a terrible chest cold after we arrived there. Carpets were filthy and walls were dirty. There were things that could be easily taken care of if anyone cared. They didn't. I complained about all of it when I realized that our last night (a Thursday) was going to be raised to over twice the cost of the previous night. I mentioned that I was going to report all these things and they washed the dirt off the wall you face when you speak to them at the receptions desk and left a bottle of wine in our room. I returned the wine as I would reather help others not get studk there. The contrast between that hotel and the 3 others, two newer and one the same age was unbelievable. Do not ruin your time in wonderful Amsterdam by staying at this poorly managed hotel. It is obvious that staff is oblivious to how dirty the hotel is. I watched the staff clean the bathroom by wiping the water from the sink and tub. Nothing was done to the toilet. New towels were hung and that was it. Wonder if it was cleaned before we arrived the first day. I think you have the picture.

Area recommendations
Near city center or Leidtzplein. Stayed near both areas and there is lots of activity and easy access to all parts of the city; also many places to eat in both areas.
What to pack
Prepare for rain with light raincoat, even in summer.

“Comfortable and convenient”

I had been warned about Amsterdam hotel room sizes, so was prepared. The room was pretty basic, a proper shower rather than the mixer tap would be a big and cheap improvement. General decor is rather tired; the female staff were excellent, as was the porter, but one of the male staff was rather abrupt. Breakfast was adequate to good. Lovely scrambled eggs, the apple pie is to die for. Very quiet , respectable location, just a little way from Dam Square. All in all, could have been better, but i am savvy enough to know it could have been a lot worse.

Area recommendations
The northern half of the Herensgrach was great; I wouldn't have wanted to stay any closer to Rembrandtplein, as it would be noisy.
Must see
Remrandt Square was great! We were lucky in that there was live music during the daytime and early eve. The atmosphere was friendly and relaxed, with young and old.

Canal Ring, Amsterdam, Netherlands: The classic Amsterdam image of stately canals, the Canal Loop is principally the Herengracht and Keizersgracht, lined with gracious tall 17th and 18th-century houses. Some of these are now museums, most notably the eccentric Kattenkabinet. The Amstel is a more down-to-earth waterway, lined with houseboats and famous for its classic much–photographed Magere Brug (Skinny Bridge). The floating Flower Market is also a much-loved canal feature.
