Perfect location for everything you will need for a stay, everything in walking distance, museums literally right next door. Nice and quiet for a smoke outside but beware the night worker who is constantly trying to catch people smoking in the rooms, he caught someone and was rude, insistent they pay a fine of 200 euros or he will call the police... i mean please... smoking in Amsterdam is really getting the police juices flowing. Just one of those slimey characters you hate to meet but avoid his wrath like I did and you will have a jolly good time with the rest of the staff.

Staff were friendly and lovely, hotel itself is a little dated but it was clean and comfortable and very well priced. The area it os situated is stunning with lots of amenities and reataurants about with good piblic transport into the centre, would definetly stay at hotel washington again!!!

I booked a normal room and paid for a so called normal room, but when I got to the hotel, I was offered a totally depressing, dark and small basement room. I didn’t even stay for a minute there. Totally misleading and nothing like the pics on Expedia. I ended up paying an extra $30 to move to their so called sister hotel, which is totally unacceptable. The hotel also looks old and outdated and The receptionist wasn’t nice or too helpful, and the whole experience was very bad. Really not recommended

Great location for art lovers -lovely neighborhood
Great location and a more chill nice neighborhood without all the chaos. I liked that a lot. Very close to the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum. Good filling breakfast before long museum days. The lady at the reception was very helpful getting me directions to the museum in The Hague. If you are not agile make sure you are not on the upper floors - it’s narrow and not easy to get a very large bag up them if you are not very strong. I am wimpy so I took a few things out and made two trips. Lol! (My bad because it was a long trip so my bag was huge.)

They first put me in Room #1 which is directly under the kitchen. It was so noisy that I could not get to sleep the first night, so I complained. They put me in another room, but were grumpy about it, and didn't offer to help me move my bags, and it was 23:00 at night. The next room was directly across from a door to the stairs leading upstairs. Every time someone went upstairs, the door slammed, waking me up. All I can say is bring earplugs. Also, in their ads for rooms, they all show a balcony, but most rooms there have no balcony. Just FYI.

I loved this traditional old Amsterdam house, with its typical steep staircases and very helpful staff. Great location in the museum quarter, clean and good value for money. If you're looking for sleek newly re-furbed places with aircon then this isn't for you, equally if someone in your party may struggle with the stairs then the upper floors would not be adviseable.

Great hotel in a quiet part of Amsterdam
I highly recommend a stay at the Hotel Washington. It's a smaller hotel away from the main tourist area of the city. Its quiet and very close to the Van Gogh museum. Please note the hotel does not have A/C, but they do offer a fan in the room. In addition, the stairs to the 2nd and 3rd floor is very steep and they don't have an elevator. Just be aware.

Hotel Washington - Amsterdam.
Stayed at Hotel Washington for the location. Cannot beat it. Will warn potential clients (especially Americans!) that there is no air conditioning and one might have to climb 3 sets of winding stairs to access your room. Front desk guy not too lively, check out guy even more disinterested. Doesn't matter, just passing it on. Clean rooms, good showers and facilities.

OK located place that has very small rooms. The rooms have no air conditioning and there is only one fan. Be forewarned the stairs are narrow and not for the faint of heart. Overall, OK place but not the greatest.

Great service, we could even leave our luggage for as long as we wanted after checkout. Spacious rooms, nice bathroom. Very steep stairs, no elevator. Sound proofing could be better, but not a major issue. Very good location. Overall: Would definitely visit again.

Hotel Washington is a great place to stay - we enjoyed the location, the excellent service, great breakfast, and character of the place. It is close to the large park and museums and there is a bus nearby which goes straight to the airport. We would absolutely stay there again!

The only downfall is no AC. We had 2 fans in the room, but one was broken. We asked for a replacement but nothing happened. We were kind of disappointed.

Only stay as a last resort option
We would not stay here again. Our family of 4 got a room with 4 twin beds, which was fine. We climbed two sets of stairs, which were more akin to ladders to get to our floor. My pregnant wife struggled to get up and I made multiple trips to carry our luggage so no one would fall down the stairs. The room was small but quaint, with a large window to open for a breeze. There was only one small, very dusty fan, no AC. The building is quite old. If you’re lucky enough to fall asleep on the extremely hard beds with harder pillows, you will surely be woken by all the footsteps and doors slamming all night long. Our first morning, we were woken around 7am by the cellphone in the room above us going off continuously (on vibrate) for 45 minutes. With no phone in the room to call the front desk, we had to climb down the stairs to ask them to address it. They did without any issues. Our bathroom was small but doable, unfortunately the shower and ceiling had obvious spots black mold. I will add, everyone who worked there that we encountered was WONDERFUL. They were extremely pleasant and helpful.

Be aware there’s no elevator and no A/C, but for a peaceful, comfortable stay in walking distance of the major museums, it’s perfect. Metro and trams are an easy walk away. Breakfast was a nice bonus. We fell in love with the neighborhood and would be happy to come back.

The property was inside a neat older building with very high ceilings and unique architectural features. It also had a very narrow, steep staircase, but we were on the ground floor. Our room was spacious for the 4 of us. We had plenty of room, but could have used a luggage rack or two. The front desk staff was very attentive and friendly.

I booked 2 rooms for my mom and her friend. Their review: "Good location on a quiet street. Room is tiny -- good for sleeping only. A little claustrophobic when awake. Can hear neighbors walking and talking. Pillow is very hard, but the mattress is good. Male staff unfriendly, bordering on rude, and did not like answering questions regarding directions, activities or places to eat. Stairs are narrow and steep; had difficulty getting luggage up 2 flights of stairs. Decorations are very dated." To be fair, I sent them the warnings about small rooms and steep stairs before booking, and they didn't read reviews or look at photos. However, the unfriendliness of staff is unacceptable. Two separate men answered "I don't know" when asked for restaurant recommendations and things to do (OK, fine, maybe you don't want to be a conceirge, but you are working in a tourist industry in a small city.) But the fact that the staff answered "I don't know" when asked for directions to the museums right around the corner and I had to look it up and send it from back in the US indicates that they just don't like their jobs.

Noises from walking and shutting the doors were constant. have made suggestion to the front desk staff to remind guests who are returning after 10 to be mindful. No follow up. Was awoke by guests leaving at 4:30 am. Steep and narrow stairs are worse than the pictures convey.

FYI: No lift and short, steep and narrow stairs were difficult to climb. Caring luggage up and down them was difficult. Staff was courteous and helpful. We were able to leave luggage before check in. Breakfast was nice, typical: eggs, bread, cold cuts, fruits/ veggies, coffee and tea. (No coffee service in room).
