“Run down hotel in a great location”

The hotel was easy to find and located in a great location. The hotel staff are laid back and not rude, just not helpful. It's a nonsmoking hotel yet guests were smoking inside. Our floor reeked of smoke and whenever someone on our floor smoked, our room instantly filled of smoke. I'm not talking just a hint of smoke, more like someone sitting next to you blowing smoke in your face. Really odd. The hotel is currently under renovations so it may be cleaned up but it is an old building so noise travels fast and far in the building.

“Great Value For Money - Clean & Convienient”

I have stayed at the Hotel De Paris several times. It a block away from the Entertainment District with bars, restaurants, Hard Rock Cafe and the Bulldog Cafe, Amsterdam's most famous coffee shop which is located in the old Amsterdam Police Station... how ironic!!! The theatres are also close by with big productions playing nightly. The #2 Tram stops right in front of the Bull Dog Cafe and will take you right through the main shopping areas of Amsterdam, passing Dam Square and the Red Light District. The Hotel De Paris has a fabulous Dutch Breakfast with meats, chesses, breads, cereals and more! Even scrambled eggs! Great value for money and a best kept secret!

Area recommendations
I would suggest the shopping district which runs the entire length of central Amsterdam. Dam Square and the Red Light District are fun to, but the latter isn't appropriate for families.
When to go
If you want to save money and heavy crowds and lines, visit Amsterdam from Monday to Thursday, checking out on a Friday morning. You will get the cheapest hotel rates and enjoy more sightseeing without all the lines.

“Nice and clean”

Was very satisfied with my stay here. Nice location and the room was clean. I just wish they offered free wi-fi like everywhere else in the world. Had to go to McDonalds every day to use the internet.

“Hotel de Paris - Amsterdam - small but adequate”

The rooms are (very) small but adequate for a budget hotel - fine as long as you don't intend to spend much time (and are not too large - otherwise getting into the shower might be a squeeze!). Good location and friendly staff. However, like every other hotel I have stayed at in Amsterdam, the rooms are expensive for what you get (compared to other cities). Finally, they don't have a secure area to sotre luggage - this has to be left in the bar during the day.

“convenient location”

the hotel was very convenient but the rooms were very small. also the Expedia form said "double bed" but we were given a room with two single beds. i wouldn't give the hotel 3 stars - it's really only two stars.

Area recommendations

“Narrow and Nice”

Narrow tiny rooms in the theatre district, very nice for one person. The hotel has an elevator, a godsend in Amsterdam, and an ample breakfast for 12 euros. When I booked a return visit, they lowered the price and gave me a larger room. I thought it was just great. And it was quiet. No view, who cares.

Area recommendations
Vondelpark for museum goers. I stayed in the Liedesstract, the theatre district. Plenty of shops and ethnic restaurants. Don't know about other parts of town

“Good Value”

Pleasant basic hotel on the edge of the central area. Esay to find. Does not look very smart from the outside, but everything was alright inside. Fairly small room, which I believe is common in Amsterdam. The toilet and shower were modern, clean and efficient. Plenty to eat at breakfast which was included in the price --- the only hot food available was scrambled egg. We would use the hotel again if we stayed in Amsterdam.

Area recommendations
We enjoyed a walk around Volks Park which is near the hotel on Sunday morning.

“Comfy, friendly and warm”

The location was wonderful, close to everything, around the corner from a canal, right on a tram line. Our room was very tiny but very clean and we had a TV, private toilet and shower, just what we needed. The breakfast was generous, scrambled eggs, sliced meats and vegetables, fruit, lots of juices, more than enough and included in the price. All the staff were friendly, helpful. We did hear complaints from people who were given rooms in the basement but ours was on the second floor, faced a pleasant quiet courtyard and we enjoyed our stay. I would definately return.

Area recommendations
Anywhere in the center of the city, the Pijp neighbourhood and market, Vondel Park is outstanding.
