“Charming authenticity”
We were pleasantly surprised. Yes the Luna Convento is only a 4 star, whose glamour days are behind it, but it oozes old Italian charm and authenticity. The delightful arched architecture and pretty cloister reflect the old convent. The spectacular views of the Amalfi coast are breathtaking. The restaurant service is prompt and professional and while perhaps not the best meal in Amalfi, the setting more than makes up for it. The salt water pool and ocean swimming spot is reached by a rocky billy goat path way - great for the quads! It's not a pina colada sort of place where pool side drinks are served with a flourish, but its utterly charming. My advice - stretch your budget and book a terrace room. Or, upgrade yourself to the hotel's top suite - room 39 - as we did. It is well worth paying extra for the stunning sweeping vistas from the two large terraces that come with this big, sunny and comfortable two story room. It was the perfect Amalfi coast experience I had imagined (from the glossy brochures!) - without the 5 star price tag or the 5 star fuss. This is not a place that does celebrity service, but when you're sunning yourself on that terrace in room 39 with uninterrupted views up and down the coast, watching the ships sailing in and the brilliantly blue water sparkle, you will feel on top of the world. We stayed 5 days in the first week of October. Next time we'll stretch it to 10.
“Excellent Hotel”
The staff, rooms, decor and dining area are excellent. The staff is very friendly and speak English well. The comp breakfast has very diverse food, which should satisfy anyone. Great hotel.
“Not Impressed”
The Luna convento could be a fantastic hotel had they bothered to renovate it a little. Room was large, however the shower was terrible (No shower curtain) and low pressure. While this is a historic building, I don't particularly enjoy antique bathrooms. The bed wasn't very confortable. Staff wasn't particularly friendly or informed. Yes, the cloister is really pretty, however overall the place was highly disappointing given the price.

Area:
Amalfi, Italy: A charming cluster of pastel houses, shops, cafés and watchtowers, Amalfi seems little more than a village. However it was a great naval power and a wealthy trading republic in medieval times. Its dramatic setting in jagged cliffs cloaked in vineyards is best seen from a boat. Amalfis star turn is a gorgeous cathedral with great bronze doors and lacy cloisters. The nearby village of Atrani is quiet and pretty, with a fine Byzantine church.
